We’ve waited, waited and waited and now, we need to wait just a little more! Because those three Haim sisters have finally announced the release of their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album. The 11-track album, titled Days Are Gone will drop September 30th and will feature the recently released single ‘The Wire’ as well as 2012’s smash hits ‘Don’t Save Me’ and ‘Forever’. Peep the glorious artwork above and the full track list after the jump.
L.A’s newest darling BANKSreleases her chilling new SOHN produced ballad ‘Waiting Game’, the second single following ‘Warm Water’ lifted from her forthcoming debut EP. The tracks dramatic soundscape is immersed in deep atmosphere and cinematic theatre; But it’s BANKS’ eerie, pain-soaked vocals that really permeates, she’s cultivated a really dope mixture of styles in her approach to melody and in the way she uses her voice.
According to BET’s President of Programming and Specials Stephen Hill, André 3000 will release a solo album early next year. Hill spoke with André about his upcoming new film in which he stars as Jimi Hendrix in the biopic All Is By My Side after which he tweeted: “Me: hey what’s up? You got the movie coming, right? Andre 3000: yeah…and I got a solo album coming top of the year. Me:*droptofloor*”. These rumours have been floating around for years but this one seems pretty close to the source.
Fan hope was quashed last year when 3 Stacks spoke to Billboard and said “some days I feel like I’ll do [a solo album], some days I don’t. Some days I feel like I don’t need to, some days I feel like I want to do it before I die. So, I don’t know where to fall. I am just hoping one day I get that inspiration”.
But even since that interview taking place we’ve already seen him appear on the The Great Gatsby soundtrack alongside Beyonce, he’s been seen in the studio with Mike Will Make It and when speaking to GQ earlier this year he said “there’s a lot of music on the horizon. I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, “Hey, Andre, we want you on this song.” So I’ve been taking those calls and for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. So these new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project. I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year”.
After his guest appearance on HBO’s ‘Real Late With Bill Maher’ last night, Jay Z premiered his new visual “Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film” directed by Mark Romanak. You see Hove doesn’t just make music videos any more, he makes “performance art”. #pause. Jay performed the track at New York City’s Pace Gallery for six straight hours and made a short film out of the performance.
Future Brown is the new musical outfit which brings together Fatima Al Qadiri, Nguzunguzu & J-Cush and ‘Wanna Party’ is the groups debut collaborative release. Featuring the braggadocios steeze of Chi-town rapstress Tink and some serious swirly, bell-heavy production – this goes hard. Tuck in below.
Catch Fatima Al Qadiri tonight at XOYO along side Evian Christ, Arca, Lil’ Silva & Sampha…
Earlier this week Solange announced that she’s had to cancel all of her European summer festival dates in order to focus on making her third solo album. She explained that along with personal commitments of being mother, she needs the time to concentrate on the new record.
Having released her True EP last year, Knowles has now confirmed to Billboard that her next long player will be released in 2014 and that she is working closely with Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth and Patrick Wimberly of Charlift fame. She also mentioned working with SBTRKT and Drake collaborator Sampha on the new project too. The yet-titled album will be released through Solange’s own label imprint Saint, but will be distributed worldwide through Sony.
“I’m actually trying to give myself a deadline this time around. One of the pros of being independent is having that space and that time… But it’s also a major con when you don’t set aside a deadline and keep going and keep going. When you have a goal in mind you definitely stay motivated. I’m trying to stay motivated because I know it took four years before my last record came out. That is not happening – it’s gonna come out next year”. On speaking of the musical direction of the upcoming record, Solange said “…I think in terms of this record, the sonic is gonna be established this year and the rest of the summer. And recording [in New Orleans] I’m sure will seep into the record in some kind of way. But I’m gonna be back and forth between here [New York] and New Orleans, and there’s obviously so much great music happening here as well”
PMR signee Javeon McCarthy (now known just as Javeon) returns with his first new track of the year and his first since 2012′s ‘Precious’. Excitingly and rather typical of PMR’s know-how ‘Lovesong’ was produced by 18 year old singer/songwriter MNEK. Together the two have created an upbeat blend of summery house, contemporary pop and melodic R&B carried by Javeon’s soulfully dexterous vocals. The track doesn’t come out until October 14th, so for now take listen below.
Following on from his widely received new single ‘No Doubt’ featuring Rosie Lowe this week, producer Lil Silva teams up with another smooth-toned vocalist on ‘Salient Sarah’, the latest cut taken off his upcoming EP The Distance. Given Sampha’s reputation and Silva’s understanding of beat construction, this collaboration (which isn’t their first together) was always bound to deliver something special. The stream is currently only available on the BBC iPlayer, international heads – hold tight for a open line. International stream available now.
P.s Lil Silva and Sampha will be playing this Friday at XOYO, along aside recent Kanye collaborators Evian Chris & Arca. More info here.
FKA twigs (formally known as twigs) just dropped an hypnotic, must-watch new music video for her single ‘Water Me’. As a stand alone piece of music ‘Water Me’ is already a beguiling number, basking in Arca’spost-Bjork wizardry and twigs’ quietly fierce vocal chords; But when combined with it’s riveting accompanying visual the song takes on even greater form. Take a look up top.
Purchase ‘Water Me’ on iTunes from midnight and expect EP2 on September 9th via Young Turks.
Staying true to his word, Drake just dropped his latest cut from his highly anticipated third studio album, Nothing Was the Same, dropping September 17th. Linking up with 2 Chainz and Big Sean on the laid back stoney basslines of ‘All Me’, the track is briefly introduced by comedian Aziz Ansari. ‘All Me’ isn’t necessarily Drake’s strongest single, although considering the toned down simplicity of the silky production (crafted by Key Wane) and coupled with yet another contagious sing-song hook, it’s certainly not his worst. Plus Drake’s switch up at the end is hard. Following the release of ‘The Motion’ featuring our ownSampha, along with the slew of other new tracks Drizzy has dropped over the past few weeks indicates that album number three is shaping up nicely.
