During his time at RBMA in Madrid last year, A’Dam’s finest Full Crate got to creating this beastly track with the mighty Mark Pritchard. Following on nicely from Crate’s last release Golden Glasses, ‘Dangle’ once again demonstrates the producers current bass-heavy headspace. Big speakers or respectable headphones essential – don’t mug yourself.

Like the Jesse Boykins & Gora Suo track we posted yesterday, this too will feature on the upcoming RBMA Various Assets – Not for Sale compilation album due out February 24th.

Plenty more it seems, as he changes direction slightly and drops his latest offering up on his soundcloud today. A sultry samba ambiance, amorous guitars and female utterances laden with romance. Relax into this one below.

Arca a Venezuelan producer, admittedly not a part of the world where we often showcase music from, but this 7 minute track transcends area codes and country lines perfectly.

Almost like two songs interwined, the free download ‘Spira’ gives us morphed and screwed R’n'B vocal at the beginning courtesty of Usher’s ‘Truth Hurts’ original (taken from his last decent album in my opinion – Confessions). Then livens up with an enclosing beat that swallows the smooth vibe,  unashamedly spits it back out with a hollowing, glitched sound that eclipses the sample.

I recently revisited Keyshia Cole’s debut album The Way It Is, cot damn – so many tunes on that LP. Really felt that she had the gusto to fill the gap left wide open by Mary J. Blige went mainstream, and to be fair – she followed up nicely with Just Like You, but personally I felt her material dipped after that.

In any case ‘Love’ was that jam on that record, that big ‘even man-dem can’t deny’ belter. So I’d forgive me for approaching this remix with a little trepidation. Thankfully JAW JAM (of whom very little is known) reworks it into an interesting chopped and screwed alternative – doesn’t lean too much to the original, but bumps enough to enjoy.

Lovin’ Kindness this morning, just the pick me up I (and you) needed. Nothing like a bit o’ Disco/Funk to spruce up your Thursday and ‘Gee Up’ is just that. An absurdly addictive bassline, with a Funky guitar section and to boot – a hilarious video. Probably one of the few videos that’s actually made me ‘laugh out loud’ in a while. “Low-fi with Hi-fi values”… Just watch!

I’m a fan of Shigeto‘s work and dig his interpretation here, appreciating those Dilla vibes over Aaliyah’s classic. Real mellow and ends beauitfully.

As if masterpieces like ‘Eve’ & ‘Dolla’ weren’t enough, here is a newly liberated unreleased collaboration between astroplane singer Steve SpaceK (of SpaceK) and beat-God Jay Dee. As you would imagine this tantalizes enough body parts to require a new set of undies -but before you freshen up  – you should know, this is just one of two unreleased gems Mathieu Schreyer (KCRW) is sharing with the world. The other will be shared soon – yay! OK, now go change.

Man, Rozay must have taken on some serious acting lessons for this clip – playing a hench drug lord out for revenge is no easy feat. Especially for… Rick Ross? Anyways – peep the Bawse’s latest visuals for ‘Yella Diamonds’ from his Rich Forever mixtape. And then have a moment of silence for 20 billion chinchillas that made that jacket he dons at the end.

Off the upcoming Black Sands Remixed longplayer comes this poignant reworking featuring the homie DELS alongside the original Andreya Triana vocals. The track surfaced back in ’10 as part of the Ninja Tunes XX celebrations and has finally got the visual treatment courtesy of duo Charlie & Joe. DELS is performing with Bonobo and Lapalux as part of tonights Boiler Room session (airing at 8 GMT) which is sure to be a heavyweight session. Black Sands Remixed is released Feb 21st.

Who doesn’t love The Black Keys?

The band have just released the video for their new single ‘Gold On the Ceiling’ taken off their new album El Camino. Mainly featuring performance footage, the video doesn’t do very much – but with their brand of Blues-Rock, it doesn’t have to.

Citing Michael Jackson, Prince, Paula Abdul, Janelle Monae & Lady Gaga as inspirations is a good start. Combining those influences and creating something dope – a brilliant result. London born newcomer Duke (who’s been doing his thing on the live scene for a minute) has seemingly dug deep to combine the best facets of Disco, Funk & R&B in order to produce this fresh piece of music. ‘Face 2 Face’ gleefully calls on recollections of Cameo and Bobby Brown, not to mention it seemingly pays homage to MJ (here) and Stevie (here) around the 02:18 mark. None of this though distracts too heavily from the fact that this guy is showing off some impressive chops too. Smash.

Coming out of the big smoke is Shades Of Grey signee Duct. ‘Pensive Stare’ is taken from the upcoming Circles EP dropping in March.  Jumpy time signatures accompanied by equally jumpy editing takes shape to create a nice 2-step bubbler with some intricate beat patterns thrown around to keep your motivated. Would have liked more of that bass that kicks in around the 2 minute mark though. Shot in NYC by Martyn Thomas, the piece is really well edited – I can’t get enough of those subway shots. Looks like 5Pointz in Long Island, how I miss that city!

Probably the best thing about the Red Bull Music Academy is that at the end of the experience, we (the hungry music consumers) get to enjoy the fruits of genuine experimentation and collaboration. Take ‘Perfect Blues’ from Jesse Boykins III as an example – during his time at RBMA in Madrid last November he teamed up with Gora Suo, an 18 year old producer from Germany and produced this amalgamation of styles.

While I personally do favour Boykins more Soulful explorations, his voice seldom sounds less than stellar. Credit to Suo too, it’s a diverse sounding production he’s crafted here – the inclusion of hand claps, sci-fi synths and a deeply resonate bass drone makes for an interesting listen.

‘Perfect Blues’ is one of many “happy accidents and magical moments that happened during the Red Bull Music Academy” in 2011, this along with a whole host of other songs will be included in a double CD compilation entitled Various Assets – Not for Sale – due out February 24th.

Bay Area rhythm section The Park have come both visually and musically correct on this new single from their recently released 3-track EP, also called These Are The Days (a harddrive necessity). They have provided backing for the likes of BIG K.R.I.T., Alice Russell and Jesse Boykins III.  This song brings a guitar-driven, vocoder-saturated meltdown accompanied by a kaleidoscopic visual explosion. Smash O’clock.

To help push their new single & album Just Before Dawn, Plug Research have kindly enough put out this alternate take featuring multi-instrumentalist/composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. He gives Sonnymoon’s single orchestral strings that really transforms the original eight-minute-long synth-driven beauty into a whole new vision . Hailing from the bay area, singer Mara Hruby has been on the scene since 2010, when she released her free album, From Her Eyes. The album showcases Hruby’s penchant for recording covers and this Bob Marley classic is included. Beautifully sung, every word delicately but passionately felt as the visuals take us through her love of  New York City.

She simply puts it “This is simply my rendition of what I feel through the masterpiece that Bob Marley created. ” Apt that the legend’s birthday was yesterday too. Watch the video up top.

We introduced Hot Charity / XL Recordings signed Willis Earl Beal to you in early January when we featured his single ‘Evening Kiss’ – the general consensus was great. ‘Take Me Away’ will launch a new chain of thought for listeners – Beal’s howlin’ voice placed across a primitive instrumentation makes this feel more like a long-lost, recently unearthed Sreamin Jay Hawkin’s song rather than a new offering from a 27-year in 2012. Raw and unfiltered, this offers even more insight into the mind of this aspiring musician.

Not the easiest listen, but one that impresses me no end. Looking forward to Willis’ debut album Acousmatic Sorcery, due out on April 2nd via Hot Charity / XL Recordings. Also excited about checking him out live when he makes his first trip outside the U.S.A in February and March – find all European tour dates after the jump.

We were never going to get ‘The Boy is Mine’ part 2, but this? This, really?

This is unexpectedly bad. Those opening chords and that guitar almost brought my dinner up. In no way is this shallow, lazy attempt at appeasing the mainstream indicative of the talent both these ladies possess. I mean, are they really singing about ‘logging out of facebook’ & ‘macbooks’? ‘It All Belongs To Me’ was written and produced by Rico Love – which from the off set, says it all – but even in-spite of that, surely both Brandy & Monica need be held accountable too.

‘The Boy Is Mine’ is a Grammy Award winning single, arguably one of the greatest R&B records of all time – comparing it any record would be unfair, however unavoidable. But I’m genuinely perplexed as to how any one involved in the creation of this record could listen to that… Then this… And find it acceptable. Times have changed, things do move on – yes – but quality is quality whatever decade you’re in – and quality is exactly what this song is lacking.

… Anyone who frequents this platform will know that I am a strong advocate (to put it mildly) of both Brandy & Monica’s – for me they represent a golden era of R&B – but not even I can stand by this. They needed Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, they needed better songwriters, they needed an intervention. This should have been better.
