Kelly Rowland Performs “When Loves Takes Over” Acoustic [VIDEO]

Hate this track, with a passion. It’s number 1 in the UK at the moment (the days of chart positions reflecting quality in music are long gone anyways). However, Kelly Rowland has a dope voice and so hearing her sing this acoustical was pretty nice. Still don’t like the song, but remain a fan of her voice.

Sidenote: Just been discussing this with my homie, do you think it’s a bit strange that Kelly Rowland has released some pretty decent R&B tunes but has failed to make much impact on the charts, but then gets on a dance track and reaches number 1? Food for thought.

Peace, Love & Kelly Rowand

Writers (Road) Block…

IMG_0452

Last Wednesday’s Writers Block put a right ol’ smile on my face.

The summer breeze was the perfect accompaniment to an evening of spoken word, acoustic music and the general creative splendor Writers Block provides. Writers Block has quickly become a staple night in London Town; the seemingly endless amounts of people who, as if by magic, cram into Juno Bar in Shoreditch is all the proof you need of it’s impact.

It’s quite easy to judge an event that celebrates artistic expression in the way Writers Block does. Many spoken word events are often regarded as pretentious and over the top. I can’t lie, I’m generally the guy who thinks that. However, what the Writers Block team have managed to create is something that has all together eliminated that element, and in it’s place produced an evening of great talent, cool vibes and good, good times!

With an impressive 10 act line up*, Wednesday’s event saw a multitude of spoken word artists, singers, rappers, movie makers, as well as 7 piece live Hip Hop band called the The Illersapiens (pictured above/my personal favourite) take to the tiny stage. No two acts were the same, but each delivered something fresh. All impressed.

…I think Wednesday’s event was their best one yet.

Don’t know if it was weather, or that the line up was just in sync, but whatever it was – it was truly a beautiful evening. Can’t lie though, the venue, albeit charming needs some serious air-con instalments. Raaaah! Heat on the stage is one thing, but man, that place gets hot!

But anyways, shouts to all the cool folk I met/chilled with, especially the ones I’ve been chatting to on Twitter for a minute now (lol). and to all those who performed – ya’ll rocked it. But most importantly, I gotta extend tons of love to the Writers Block organisers Felicia & Daniel for yet another gorgeous evening. Not forgetting their incredible hostess Miss TraceyD. Cannot wait for the next one!

Make sure you hit their website for info on the next event (*& entire line up info) and be sure to follow them on Twitter.

Peace, Love & Writers Block

Three/21 proudly presents the highly anticipated “Family Affair” music video by Wale which is featured on the upcoming “Inside A Change” Soundtrack. …The video is an examination of three individuals whose lives intersect in a vicious circle. Anwan Glover aka Slim Charles from “The Wire” plays the pimp named Sport, Dominique Andriese plays the prostitute named Iris and EJ Stanley plays Travis the young child. Now if you dig the movie that these characters pay homage to than you will probably dig this video. Can you guess what movie that is? Enjoy! – Rik Cordero

Omarion Signs to Lil’ Wayne’s Label [NEWS]

Omarion fans can rejoice! The former B2K singer revealed to 1xtra’s Ace & Vis that he has signed a recording contract with Lil’ Wayne’s label Young Money Entertainment/Cash Money (Universal Records)…

Who knew? I was under the impression (encouraged by the man himself) that Omarion was signed to Timbaland’s label Mosley Music Group, but ah well, guess that didn’t happen either. While this definitely is a good look for Omarion and his fans (I know many of you frequent PinBoard), but I’d be lying if I said I was overly excited. Never really been a fan. But as always, I will wait and let the music speak for itself.

Peace, Love & Omarion

KidKanevil – “Stomp” Feat Justin Percival (Jehst Remix) / “When I Dig” Feat Kissey Asplund & Blu (DJ Vadim Remix)

click

There are many reasons I love what I do, getting new music straight to my inbox is right up there.

Transatlantic Sounds sent over some brand new music (remixes infact) from the insanely talented beat maker KidKanevil. After the release of his much acclaimed Back Off Man, I’m a Scientist album, he returns with a rather cool remix project, 17th Samurai. Kidkanevil & First Word have gotten together some of Kid K’s favourite producers to remix some of the best tracks from his first two albums. But don’t get it twisted, these ain’t any old remixes – they include reworking from the likes of DJ Vadim, Jehst & Mr Thing, TM Juke, to name only a few. This is pretty serious stuff.

…What’s more they have lovingly provided two free tracks for our listening pleasure. The first, a Jehst remix of “Stomp” featuring Justin Percival and the second being “When I Dig” featuring the incredibly dope Kissy Asplund & Blu, remixed by DJ Vadim.

KidKanevil – “Stomp” Feat Justin Percival (Jehst Remix)

KidKanevil – “When I Dig” Feat Kissey Asplund & Blu (DJ Vadim Remix)

…These tracks are perfect for summer listening – trust me. “Stomp” is actually too much.

The remix project comes ahead of KidKanevil’s third full album Basho Basho, which we can expect to drop in the Autumn! But London folk can catch Kid K do his thing at Doctors Orders on June 5th at Herbal!

Bonus: You can also download a new KidKanevil mixtape entitled 18 Samurai which features music from The Cool Kids, Dorian Concept & J.Dilla (amongst an eclectic mix of others!). Download that HERE & check the tracklist after the jump!

Peace, Love & KidKanevil

Richgirl – “He Ain’t Wit Me Now”
Thursday, May 28, 2009, 11:20 am

I’ve been hearing this track around recently, didn’t really know much about it. I’ve since learnt its by this new girl group called Richgirl (dumb name if ever there was one), who were put together by Rich Harrison (makes a little more sense, but still dumb) who’s most known for hit singles like ”Crazy in Love” & “One Thing”. “He Ain’t Wit Me Now” has Harrision’s style written all over it…

I can’t comment too tough right now. I actually really like this! Don’t like the name of the band at all, but as I’ve said many times – there’s a big gap in the R&B girl group market right now.

…But lemme know your thoughts. Are Richgirl set to be the next big girl group in R&B?

Peace, Love & Richgirl

Bey’s new video JUST premiered…

What you think? You know I got mad love for this lady, but I’m not overly lovin’ this video. I mean, it’s cool and the choreography is dope (as per usual), but it doesn’t really have that ‘wow’ factor like say “Diva” delivered. She’s still the hottest chick in the game though haha!
