Reason #7

In 1996, just as Prince released Emancipation (which I briefly talked about in Reason #3) he appeared on the Oprah show for a rare TV interview. In the special Oprah got a chance to visit Paisley Park, Prince’s legendary studio/home/video production studio. They discuss a bunch of stuff including the name change, it’s funny watching Oprah trying to get to the bottom of what it is she is meant to call him, the album and about being in love. They also speak briefly about his son (who at this point was, according to the parents, well). Watch part 2, 3 & 4 plus his performance after the jump. Definitely worth the watch – it’s rare to see Prince so…Relaxed.

The site was down for most of the day. Apologies. Traffic increase is becoming quite the (dope) problem – hopefully we’ve sorted it for now. Anyways – I’ve been riiiinsing this track since it dropped last week, it’s so big. Here’s the official video to Zo’s new single featuring Eric Roberson, Darian Brockington & Rapper Big Pooh. SunStorm out end of the month.

Due to a family tragedy Brother Ali has had to cancel his UK shows due to take place this Friday (8th July). He address the situation via his twitter earlier today.

No further information is available at this time about rescheduling.

Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this very difficult time.

The Mirror is currently streaming 3 song clips from Prince’s new album 20Ten due out on July 20th through the newspaper for free. The three songs are entitled ‘Compassion’, ‘Beginning Endlessly’ and ‘Lavaux’. I really don’t like clips of songs and/or previews – it’s near impossible to make a real judgement on them after only hearing a few seconds – BUT what I can say is, it sounds like Prince has gone back to his funky-pop roots here. If so, that’s fu*king hot.

Listen to the songs here.

Reason #5

Prince has way too many songs for me to have one favourite, but if I had to make a top 5 – this would be in there. Quite high up too. ‘The Beautiful Ones’ is easily one of the most ‘beautiful’ songs Prince has ever written, heck, anyone has ever written. Produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince in “Purple Rain”, his autobiographical film, ‘The Beautiful Ones’ is without question one massive reason why I love Prince.

Update: Steph, in the c-section, reminded me about Mariah’s cover of this song on her Butterfly album featuring Sisqo. Such a massive version, loved it. But can’t say I prefer it to the original, close – but not quite there.
