This is the latest single off the upcoming long-player ‘No Beginning No End’ that is set to drop next January. For those like me who can’t wait that long the ‘It’s All Over Your Body’ EP is available now. This single enlists the help of some serious heavyweights including Takuya Kuroda on trumpet, Corey King on trombone, Chris Dave on drums, Robert Glasper on keys and D’Angelo’s own Pino Palladino on bass. As you would expect the groove is on a next plane. You can catch Robert Glasper being supported by Jose James on Sunday as part of the iTunes festival at the Roundhouse. For those not lucky enough to win tickets you can catch Robert Glasper as part of the London Jazz Festival for his annual show in November, this time with the experiment in tow. A show not to be missed. Keep up to date with all the London Jazz Festival programming with Serious and watch out for the review of Sunday’s show next week!

‘Forgetting And Learning Again’  is the first single to see the light of day from Lapalux‘s forthcoming Some Other Time EP, which is set for release on 16th October on Fly-Lo‘s Brainfeeder imprint. There aren’t many amongst today’s chop and screw happy producers that can work a female vocal like Lapalux (seeMoments‘). His liquidised beats and honey-coated synths manage to evoke a lucid state somewhere between dreaming and awake, that just make you wanna  curl up in his tracks like a nice warm duvet.

Post post-modern beacons AlunaGeorge have a crispy new Henry Scholfield directed clip to accompany one of the best leftfield pop records of the year. Choreographed to a tee by famed Brooke Milliner, a stranger falls in love with a girl at Dalston Print House art gallery surrounded by stunning Arran Gregory works and everyone around them does ‘the robot’. The single is out October 15th with the album planned for next Spring.

Hailing from Derbyshire, Jake Norman a.k.a Armeria follows in a similar vein to PinBoard favourites Karma Kid and the Disclosure boys. Bouncy future garage, chopped and screwed female vocals over a healthy dose of 808 percussion and bass. Tasty. Keep it locked on his soundcloud here for future vibes

“Slocal” North London rapper ItsNate drops a treat ahead of new tape “Never Average Talking Excellent” which lands on 18th September. Directed by Henry Houdini, the suave emcee glides alongside a host of ladies displaying various talents whilst referencing Kanye West’s ‘Yeezy Taught Me’ skit over this bouncy JD Reid produced banger.

Whilst the UK has seen its own response to US trappers like Ace Hood and 2 Chainz in the form of J. Spade and Sneakbo, ItsNate is more the Mikey Rocks or Casey Veggies; his flows a little smarter, swag more refined, “Liteys with tumblrs, whiteys with bumpers”. Alongside upcomers such as Piff Gang and Ash Catch ‘Em, there’s a reminder here that a sense of borderless style is breathing new life into what was a tired indigenous arena.

Giving Brandy’s classic Best Friend a serious re-working, Smirkface, hailing from the US brings the tune into a new bubbling realm. Some nice click action coupled with tunnelly chords and synths make this a true gem. Currently the only offering from the young man on the interweb, keep eyes peeled for future releases

After releasing Kaleidoscope Dream: The Water Preview, the first instalment of a two-part EP series, R&B adventurer Miguel returns with the concluding part, Kaleidoscope Dreams: The Air Preview. Building on the sound he’s been progressively crafting for the past 5 years, The Air Preview puts emphasis on thick basslines and Funk-infused sonics, all the while still showcasing his controlled falsetto.

The Water Preview & The Air Preview are preludes to Miguel’s much anticipated sophomore album Kaleidoscope Dream, due out October 10th

The announcement comes that Disclosure have just signed to West London stable PMR Records, and if the label’s track record for high quality releases, artistic integrity, yet pop adventurousness is anything to go by then that move will probably guarantee an even brighter outlook for the Surrey massive. This single featuring soulful Sam Smith on vox will be the hotly tipped duo’s first official release for PMR, and a precursor to that forthcoming album we’ve been waiting on since The Face EP followed a litter of enormous remixes and online gems. Pure phonky exhilaration. This is all, probably, the most exciting thing that’s happened today.

‘Lightbulbs’ comes courtesy of London based creatives Cronos and Lander KhadelLike alot of good music being made this doesn’t fall neatly into one genre, but intelligently borrows and blends. Cronos’ ear for arrangement and production’s apparent when the intro comes on all laid back, yet intense, mirrored in the video by a figure carrying a rug he’s about to ‘cut up’. It sets the scene as a skilfully worked Angie Stone sample grabs attention for the screwed down Lander verse. The track draws on a lot of what’s potent now, codeine vocals and hydro beats, but they manage a fresh britified balance with it.

The snippet offered just enough for us to assuredly know that ‘Clique’ was going to be a banger. No surprise then that the full version of the Cruel Summer lifted track doesn’t disappoint. Featuring Kanye West, Jay-Z & Big Sean, all on fine form and produced by Hit-Boy, it’s a braggadocious homage to the G.O.O.D Music posse. Crew love naturally. Question is though, who went in the hardest?

Cruel Summer drops September 18th.
