‘Forgetting And Learning Again’ is the first single to see the light of day from Lapalux‘s forthcoming Some Other Time EP, which is set for release on 16th October on Fly-Lo‘s Brainfeeder imprint. There aren’t many amongst today’s chop and screw happy producers that can work a female vocal like Lapalux (see ‘Moments‘). His liquidised beats and honey-coated synths manage to evoke a lucid state somewhere between dreaming and awake, that just make you wanna curl up in his tracks like a nice warm duvet.
Features and collaborations are great ways for up and coming artists to get some attention and keen eared listeners to spot burgeoning talents. Something Py has clearly taken on board, seeking out producers including Raffertie, Throwing Snow and IO to collaborate with before now.
Py first appeared on my radar however by way of her tender offering on Lapalux’s‘Moments’ a track form his brilliant Brainfeeder released When Your Gone EP. Here the London based Brightonian releases the visuals Directed by Simone Pellegrini, for a track of her own ‘Lungs’ produced by George Fitzgerald. The track itself a combination of bouncy yet mellow house beats and vocals that echo turn of the century garage hooks makes for sultry listening.
‘Lungs’ is taken from her Tripping on Wisdom Mixtape, which will be available for free download from her Facebook page from May 21st.

As you’d imagine the up and coming producer serves his purpose well – producing a darker, more ominous sounding alternative to Havas’ soulful original. He distorts her vocals in a way that creates a sense of distance and tension, while glitchy scratches and a haunting bassline carry it through a proverbial fog.
Futuristic Pop from London-based artiste Py, who’s been creeping onto everyone’s radar since her luscious ‘Moments‘ feature on Lapalux’s recent EP. She has a mixtape dropping soon with boardwork from the producer of this record, IO. If it’s as adventurous as the taste in backdrops this young singer’s displayed so far, prepare for something that’s both addictive and a little outside of the proverbial box.

Whilst we’re often finding ourselves bedwettingly excited by Lapalux‘s productions and remixes, the British (yet intriguingly at times Americanized) leftfield Hip-Hop producer released a new EP on Fly-Lo‘s Brainfeeder label last week. It’s a fantastic jaunt of inventive, detailed, multi-dimensional bass travels. Sensually downtempo ‘Moments’ featuring the twisty vocals of PY is another of it’s many lush, bumpy moments, that really takes the heart on a melancholy pining fest.
Off the upcoming Black Sands Remixed longplayer comes this poignant reworking featuring the homie DELS alongside the original Andreya Triana vocals. The track surfaced back in ’10 as part of the Ninja Tunes XX celebrations and has finally got the visual treatment courtesy of duo Charlie & Joe. DELS is performing with Bonobo and Lapalux as part of tonights Boiler Room session (airing at 8 GMT) which is sure to be a heavyweight session. Black Sands Remixed is released Feb 21st.
British producer Lapalux has been bubbling about surface level for a while now. Since last year September, when Flying Lotus announced the producer inked a deal to his Brainfeeder label, we have taken stock of his various remixes and waited patiently for the debut EP.
Now with the release date around the corner, February 7th to be exact, Lapalux allows us to sink into his world of screwed synths, rough edged bass and distorted, echoed vocals that we can expect from When You’re Gone.
Ninja Tune’s Fink covers the classic ‘In Bloom’ by Nirvana for Germany’s Musikexpress magazine. This was part of the 20th year anniversary of the seminal Nevermind release. I adore Fink’s trademark gravely vocal tone and he doesn’t play with the classic too much which will please fans of the original. Dear oh dear, Brainfeeder signee Lapalux screws down, sexies up and ambient pads out this recently popular Wonk cut to sweet hell almighty. If my (marginally fallen) childhood hero Timbo knew just how far his sonic seeds had spread, the ageing bastard would be proud. I mean this isn’t a bad remix for a geezer from Essex is it?
