If you’re following us on Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr, you will know that summer (named by season, not the weather) has been popping off here in London and it keeps getting better it seems.
Legendary footwear and apparel brand, Converse have just announced the line up for their summer series ‘Represent’ which will run from July 30th to August 10th at the iconic 100 club. The likes of Nas, Plan B, Santigold, Yuna, SBTRKT, Rudimental, Paul Weller, Friends, Kano and so many more. Perfect line up to soak in those Olympic summer evenings in.
For your chance to win tickets, head over to the Converse website.
“Oooh Shit!!”… That’s what the opening bars of Melé’s ‘Gold Casio’ had me saying. This relentless sonic onslaught flits from Hip-Hop to Techno via some next carnival vibe. This tune is large – but, frustrating short. So more please! Word is that apparently he has also just finished shooting a video for a track called ‘Beamer’ featuring Kano - should be very interesting.

In what is probably their biggest live event to date (and with Red Bull, that’s saying something) RBMA will be taking over the London Eye on October 13th 2011 to present ‘Revolutions in Sound’ – the worlds first music festival in the sky. Each pod on the capital’s largest wheel will be taken over by a crew or artist. As you would imagine, space is very limited but for those not lucky enough to have been allocated a ticket – the audio will be streamed online for all to enjoy.
Acts taking part include: Wretch 32, Skream & Benga, Benji B/Deviation, Rodigan, Metalheadz, Ms Dynamite, Kano, Digital Soundboy Soundsystem (Shy FX, Breakage, Donae’o), Andreya Triana, Ben Westbeech, Zinc and a whole heap of others.
Mind blowing. It’s hard to fathom how this will work, but if anyone can pull it off – it’s these guys.
Tickets can be applied for via RBMA’s website. Apply quick because these will go.
Officially the last month of our beloved British summer, so best make the most of it. There’s loads of free gigs to save the pennies in your pocket, including PinBoard co-signed song bird Szjerdene and electronic R’n'B infused duo Creep.
After hitting the town last month for a couple of DJ sets, Q Tip is back. Full band and a whole show to himself. Legendary. Lastly, us PinBoard lot will be down at a couple of our favourite festivals this month including the big one for me, Big Chill. Any Kanye fans/stans out there? Holler!
Check out the rest of the festivals and what else is happening in the capital after the jump.
Our friends over at Red Bull Studios London recently celebrated their 1st birthday by putting on one of the most epic parties I’ve been to in a while. Pure vibes. Red Bull HQ was transformed into a live venue / rave platform – where free drinks & pizza flowed endlessly. Music was provided by the likes of Skream & Benga and Benji B, with a energetic live performance from Kano. If this is how they get down after just one year, I can’t imagine what they’ll be doing for their terrible two’s.
Watch the video up top to get a sense of the madness that ensued that night. As I said, epic.
On a personal note, we’re extremely proud to have exclusively partnered up with Red Bull Studios London for our on-going Rehearsal Rooms series. The studio does incredible work, but more importantly is run by a great team of people who genuinely love music. Working with them has been an absolute blast and we’re really excited about what’s coming next – stay tuned fam, it’s going to be spesh.
Here are the new visuals for that Stones Throw G….. MED. “Classic” is produced by Karriem Riggins. Directed by The Qualities of Light (Shane Sakanoi & Rich Hama) and features the mighty Kweli. The production on this is heavyweight and has been getting major rewinds this past week. Love it
Our good friends over at Red Bull Studios London sent me this remix of Ghostpoet’s ‘Cash & Carry Me Home’ featuring London emcee Kano. The two got together in their studio (ya know, the one we film in) to record the remix, the result is pretty tasty. Listen and download it via the Soundcloud player below…
We got a very special something coming from Ghostpoet in the next couple weeks, hold tight for that.
This little lady is fast becoming my favourite live performer on London’s Soul circuit. The singer songwriter from West London is currently causing quite a stir! The business and Law graduate has been focusing on Music for quite sometime now having had the opportunities to perform with the likes of Raphael Saadiq, Kano, Estelle, Faith Evans, touring with Al Green and Gabrielle and working with well respected producers Bugz In The Attic and 4Hero has a wealth of experience and is now beginning to show everyone what she is all about.
Her EP Introduction To Miss Charles features production from UK Favourites Truth Movement and Colin Emmanuel aka “Black Einstein” and is a slice of quality RnB Soul with a distinct UK flavouring over it. Highlights include “Your My Boy”, “My Journey” and the standout single “You Are The One” checkout the excellent video.
Dopeness indeed but its Live where my girl is really killing it. Backed by a full band she has been rocking crowds with her sublime vocals and authentic Soul sound. The band are ridiculous with some mean grooves, runs and stabs and just simply tight as HELL! Whilst Nadine’s voice floats over the music commanding you’re attention. Here’s a recent clip of her performing at Aesthetic Sounds supporting Glen Lewis.
Love it! She is doing what a lot of UK artists are failing to bringing that quality on all levels. Good recordings, good video and good live set you can’t go wrong. She’ll be supporting Marsha Ambrosius @ Dingwalls Camden on Dec 27 get tickets here and get hold of her EP at Bandcamp below. I suggest you get to know about Nadine Charles.

Remaking ‘Pow’ was never going to be easy. It’s a classic on these shores. But Lethal Bizzle took on the challenge and enlisted the help of some of the biggest and hottest emcees of the day to help him. We got Wiley, JME, Ghetts, Chipmunk, Kano, 2 Face and P Money – each one do their damn thing. Can’t be denied.
Is it as good as the orginal? Hmm, I don’t know. It’s pretty hard, still.
