On May 24th The Jet Age of Tomorrow will release their third full length album The JellyFish Mentality for free. Made up of musicians Matt Martians (The Internet/Odd Future) and Hal Williams (Pyramid Vritra) the duo’s upcoming release will feature an impressive list of collaborators including SBTRKT, Hodgy Beats, Kilo Kish, Jesse Boykins III and Earl Sweatshop. In the lead up to this weeks release they’ve uploaded a looming new a two-part single titled ‘ON!’ to their soundcloud, listen below…
All roads look set to lead to LoveBox this year as organisations have just announced the first round of artists/DJ’s confirmed on the bill. Among some of them are SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Azealia Banks, Jurassic 5 (!), Julio Bashmore, Purity Ring, Gold Panda, AlunaGeorge and the man-God himself D’Angelo! Aside from Mark Ronson and Goldfrapp a full list of headliners has yet to be announced but something tells me there’ll be some pretty legendary names thrown in the mix – watch this space.
Lovebox takes place in London on July 19th-21st, for more line-up and ticket information head over to their official website.
The internets very own Kilo Kish releases the follow up to her Homeschool EP with a collaborative multimedia project titled K+. Featuring over 20 ‘contributions’ from the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, The Internet, SBTRKT, Flatbush Zombies, A$AP Ferg, Childish Gamibo, Star Slinger and more the new tape remarkably stands at just 10 songs long.
When speaking about the project Kish recently explained: “K+ is a collaborative multimedia project between my friends and I with and emphasis on the process of making music. I have designed a space to represent this, filled with notes, drafts, inspirations, photos and videos. My songs, which are the product of this process, include layers of sound spanning from at home demos to professional studio recordings. This is in an attempt to purposely highlight our imperfections and reject the finality of “the finished product”. We are all always working and making changes and my project represents this elementary idea”.
October saw SBTRKT conclude a hugely successful year of worldwide touring with two sold out shows at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Anyone whose seen SBTRKT’s show will know he’s mastered the art of translating his electronic productions into an enthralling live show, alongside frequent collaborator Sampha. Wanting to capture the magic they created on stage SBTRKT commissioned a 12 camera crew and assigned each one to capture a different element of the show. The results can be viewed up top.
Both the videos and audio are available to download now, exclusively on iTunes. Additionally Young Turks will be releasing ‘LIVE’ as a limited run of 500 LP / DVD packages housed in hand-screen-printed sleeves – more info here.
With new material leaks few and far between, it’s another one from the mask of Aaron Jerome. A pretty blithe, exotic affair as kalimbas, texture and sub basscapades melt into one another and whilst it would be nice to get some vocal’ed up paraphernalia soon, you can sense SBTRKT is warming us up for something right now.
If you’re following us on Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr, you will know that summer (named by season, not the weather) has been popping off here in London and it keeps getting better it seems.
Legendary footwear and apparel brand, Converse have just announced the line up for their summer series ‘Represent’ which will run from July 30th to August 10th at the iconic 100 club. The likes of Nas, Plan B, Santigold, Yuna, SBTRKT, Rudimental, Paul Weller, Friends, Kano and so many more. Perfect line up to soak in those Olympic summer evenings in.
For your chance to win tickets, head over to the Converse website.
A breezy Saturday afternoon in East London’s historic Victoria Park was the setting for the PinBoard crew’s venture into our first festival of the summer. Field Day – the urban festival, come village fête, heavily seeped in electronic, alternative, bass and ultimately purveyors of fresh future music, Field Day is right up our street. With just celebrating their sixth year running, they definitely look like they are not planning to go anywhere anytime soon.
Scheduling in the one dayer a month or so earlier than usual, we happily danced along to the sounds of Hudson Mohawke, Julio Bashmore, Metronomy, SBTRKT, The Internet throughout the day. With frequent visits to the RBMA stage too, who were hosting some of their own graduates and stars set to shine and are currently soaring.
We checked out the likes of alumni and veteren on the decks, Kidkanevil, as well as Brixton songstress Jessie Ware who smashed the stage. Very proud moments to see the audience singing back the ‘Running’ chorus to her. Sunless ’97, Mr Beatnik and Chairlift also kept spirits up throughout the day.
A break in between albums is always hard for us eager (and greedy) music listeners. Knowing this, SBTRKT offers up a demo on his Soundcloud, now that he is “back in the studio. working towards eps/ album/ etc”.
Great news, as the debut album was a fav of ours last year. So looking forward to the next one. Until then listen below.
SBTRKT takes on another Frank Ocean track, this time he goes after ‘Whip Appeal’ – a song Ocean released a few weeks back. “Made this edit to play at my Williamsburg gig last week in NY. Its nothing crazy. Just some beefed up production over an already dope track” – clearly a fan, I can already see these two collaborating in an “official” capacity soon. Would be a strong look.
Brand new video from SBTRKT for ‘Hold On’ featuring the unmistakeable musings of Sampha – probably my favourite song off his smash debut album last year.
