Always the rebel, Miss Jack Davey of cult genre-bending LA duo J*Davey (with Brooke D’Leau), after releasing their album New Designer Drug late last year, embarks on her first real solo outing that will take what you thought you knew of her in a more Garage Rock direction. A reported new album Lo-F! is on the way, and whilst no release date set, we’re given a taste of blood with ‘Howl At The Moon’. Produced by Miss Jack herself, the lady hunts for pray over Electric-Blues feedback and channels her inspirations Iggy Pop and original bad bish Betty Davis, whooping like she’s not one to be caged.
Leading up to the album release, Def Sound continues to push forth and release another track accompanied by new visuals. A kaleidoscope of shapes and fresh garms, the song/video also features songstress Nikko Gray, whilst Brook of J*Davey fame takes care of production.
Back in January we premiered a new group from Toronto operating under the name Sandie Black. Information on them was (and still is) sparse, but their single ‘Gotta Get Free’ rang out. Like it’s predecessor, their latest cut ‘Is You Rolling’ feels informed by a wealth of afro-Pop-Punk clout – from Neptunian ‘Like I Love You’ riffs to, N*E*R*D vocal effects and even Electro-Soul by way of J*DaVey and Janelle Monae. Though that almost bouncy, urban-middle-class Pop sensibility does unburden the scale from tipping too left – it does hint at wanting to ‘take it there’.
We’re hoping Sandie Black go on to expand their palette and venture further into beefier audio territories, but going by the two songs they’ve released thus far – our ears remain peaked. It’s mad catchy. Time will reveal the secrets of this group / collective but for now listen & download their new track below, for free.
Intergalactic (via LA) duo J*Davey’s long-awaited 11 song canvas of mind-bending musical mischief is finally available to stream. Featuring material originally set for release through Warner Bros, it will now drop via their ILLAV8R imprint, on iTunes

Fully aware of the influences Def posesses, what he listens to, reads and takes from across the globe and the genre’s he delves into, I’m not surprised by the vast sounds from his latest mixtape, sorry I mean ‘bitchtape’, from LA’s freshest, creative rapper.
The span explains why, with ease, Def navigates through dark, gritty electronic journeys to lighter hip hop waves, to glitchy mismatched beats completed with witty wordplay “Colder than a polar bear’s toenails” to boot. And THIS is apparently something he just knocked up…
Here’s the latest episode in our exclusive ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ series, presented by PinBoardBlog and filmed by our production house PinBoardFilm in collaboration with the world famous Red Bull Studios London.
Shot in Red Bull’s recording studio, these are intimate sessions with some of the most exciting artists and bands we champion.
Some may recall the tectonic shift that began occurring in 2007 and spread to the international ‘alt’ music scene when a new breed of uncategorizable acts emerged from the LA underground (amongst them Flying Lotus, Blu et al).
Fast forward a couple brilliant independent long-players, a couple appetite-wetting EPs and incessant touring/recording later – just when you thought it was all quiet on the western front Miss Jack Davey and Brook D’Leau’s long awaited and perhaps most realised full-length is nearly upon us.
New Designer Drug is set to be released on ILLAV8R in the coming months and to celebrate the New Wave duo flew in from the States to lay down a never-heard-before track, ‘Queen of Wonderland’ – a wild blend of Alternative Rock, Electronica and a myriad of other influences that signal an exciting evolution.
Be frank – few acts in the world today have a sound like J*Davey.
Tomorrow night (July 12th) the ever-dope J*DaVey return to London, along side soul man Jesse Boykins III for a special 6th Birthday celebration of Aesthetic Sounds. The night will also double up as an album launch party for event founder Sarah Fonteyne.
Don’t have to tell you why you need to attend, it’s a no brainer. We’re offering one lucky winner a pair of tickets to the event…

Festival season is well and truly upon us. With Glastonbury done and hibernating for the next two years, there is still room for plenty more festival fun, with Wireless and Hop Farm over the weekend and Lovebox and Soundwave still to come, I’m definitely ready for the summer months. Aside from multi artists, multi stage happenings, Janet is in town singing hit after hit at the Royal Albert Hall. We went down to the first night and she was amazing. Honestly.
Also in town is Ms Badu and her annual show at Brixton Academy, J*Davey is flying over to show UK some love and those Odd Future boys (and girl) are back to cause more havoc. Hit the jump, there’s tonnes.
