The best selling female artist of all time with a career that has spanned over 2 decades, 13 albums and 18 number ones returns with a brand new single titled ‘Triumphant (Get ‘Em)’. Produced by long-time collaborator Jermaine Dupri, Carey enlists the help of Rick Ross & Meek Mill and abandons the juvenile Pop foolery she’s been trying to flog over the past few years. Instead she returns to what she does well – R&B-Pop. This isn’t too far off her ’05 Grammy Award winning ‘We Belong Together’ (also produced by JD), so could in theory fair well on radio.

… That said, Carey still disappoints by returning to a formula she’s relied on for far too many years. Something that expanded her boundaries should have been produced here; Her lack of foresight in seeking out new producers/artists to work with is disappointing. But considering the position she’s in in her career right now, it’s no wonder she wants/needs to play it relatively safe.
