The Skin are a new band from the beehive that is Brooklyn and an instant catch here is how magnetic their front-woman, 18 year old Bayli is. Whilst an Afro-Punk scene has bubbled in that region for some years now, these guys have appeared like some delegate poster-children blasting Funk and Blues in the face of 808 gluttony. As it would’ve been great to have seen that movement achieve wider international recognition (Santigold, TV on the Radio and maybe Cerebral Ballzy withstanding); a band like The Skins playing exceptionally mature melting pots considering they’re aged between 13-20, can also pose high hopes to a sphere starved of breakthrough Rock n’ Roll acts that genuinely connect with younger audiences. I mean the drummer still has braces and he’s a little bad-boy on the skins. Come on. Priceless.

Peep an interview with them via Bedstuy Patch and read about their fascinating cross-cultural influences, Mettalica, Wu and all. Also pick up their releases on Wreckroom Records via bandcamp here. Oh in case another kick up the behind is needed, ‘Surf‘ should do the trick.
