So Death Grips are back to confuse and bemuse in equal measure once again. Do these guys go out of their way to make videos that don’t offer up any obvious narrative? Or do they simply presume that all people really want to see is lead vocalist Stefan Burnett up real close spittin’ into a camera?

What I suspect more than anything else is that these guys really don’t care what you or I might want and fair play to them. The world of music would be a lot less interesting if everyone in it did.

Regardless, these self-imposed pariahs of the Hip-Hop community (they cancelled their world tour and don’t exactly pander to the media) sure know how to go about carving out a niche for themselves. I mean you aren’t about to confuse any of their output with anyone else’s and that in itself  is commendable in these times when everyone is trying so hard to be  ’alt’ or ‘different’.

On a musical level the song itself is comprised of only one real constant – the beat. Otherwise samples fly in and out almost at random making this quite a jarring listen at times – I guess in-keeping with their anarchic punk aesthetic.

‘Double Helix’ is taken from their album Money Store which I highly recommend if you’re looking for something ‘different’
