On the verge of releasing his first album in 13 years, The Bravest Man in the Universal via XL Recordings, produced by Damon Albarn – some very sad news has been announced involving Soul legend Bobby Womack.
Aged 68, the singer has been diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer and is currently in hospital being treated for pneumonia. According to bassist Boosty Collins he is said to be “very upbeat about his future” and determined to beat the disease. The news broke when Collins asked Womack’s friends and fans on facebook to send prayers to the singer. Last month Womack was hospitalised for “sever shortness of breath” and through a representative was confirmed that he would “undergo a minor heart procedure” – the surgery meant postponing a scheduled concert on June 2nd.
The Bravest Man in the Universe is due out on June 11th. Listen to the first single ‘Please Forgive My Heart’ here.
Get well soon Bobby…
