In the last 48+ hours across platforms, the name is abuzz with enigma.
But in a period in online when we’re all seemingly finding intense satisfaction at unlayering as less googlable information about an artist as poss, camera shy DJ/producer A. Chal may not get away so easily even with face obscured and back turned. Formerly known as GFYCNY producer Precize, he did ear-catching productions for Mickey Factz and Jade back in the day.
Returning under his birth name Alejandro Chal, he seems to have undergone slight musical rebirth with a recent spate of UK sound inspired remixes – until now creating this jigsaw of a record that’s caught some fire. Whilst guessing no one expected him to open his mouth, out secretes this half-spoke, half-sung vox sitting somewhere between Leonard Cohen and Lil’ B. The backing is a combination of neo-gothness from CREEP style minimal flare and witchy laptop synth strings, to colonial Dubstep The Weeknd’s ‘High For This’ hybridization displayed last year, and even a pinch of screw. Since creepy rohypnol music has been the new sexy for a little while now, ‘Roses On Your Silhouette’ is a right ole’ prowler. Catchy stuff.
