As the inevitable trickles through, peep this brand new D’Angelo record performed live at Filadelfiakyrkan tonight.

Strictly jazz-funk. No chaser. This man’s Prince influences always kill us.

James River, 2012? Materializing, materializing…

Thanks to the internet…

Poor quality clip, but atleast we’re getting audio through.

The night rolls on. The vocals still pertinent, steez still intact. Taking they ass to chuuuuuurch… with this latest live rendition of the burning infidelity/revenge number from his ’95 seminal debut Brown Sugar.

Life affirming update for the legion of worshipers of this musical demigod out there. He’s alive. He’s well. And he’s on f***ing fire.

As D’Angelo plays his first show in a decade tonight in the lucky city of Stockholm at a venue with a name we cannot pronounce, this fresh footage has just leaked. Performing Voodoo classic ‘Chicken Grease’, comfortable in black, appearing healthy and engaging with his audience with such redemptive glee on his face – I can only speak for the whole PinBoard team by insisting we’re thoroughly excrementing our collective pants waiting for the Amsterdam and Brixton show.

All hail. The ruler’s back.

Updated update: According to SoulBounce he performed a few new numbers from his (mythologized) next album…

First ‘Fish’ then ‘Seven’, now young Toronto swag Jazz fusionists BADBADNOTGOOD absolutely, unequivocally annihilate the groove on this killer live re-work of Gucci Mane’s ‘Lemonade’. That original bassline did always have mad potential…

With Tyler bugging out on the mic and gradually going on to do his best studio thug clowning, the chemistry between the trio and Wolf stays tight.

The unpredictability of covers is something you either love or loathe. I sit somewhere in the middle. The hit and miss nature of the process can sometimes agitate, but on occasion, as rare as it may appear – an artist or band can come along and through their authenticity and genuine respect deliver an impressive, self-assured reworking.

… Take The Dø’s cover of Janelle Monaé’s mighty ‘Tightrope’ for instance – an intense, 9-minute epilogue of roaring electronic guitars, smashing percussion and melancholic vocals (passionately delivered by lead singer Olivia). It begins subdued and downplayed, but gradually builds into a chaotic Indie-Pop/Jazz/Blues/Rock hybrid, that while starkly different from Monaé’s original – works refreshingly well.

Forthcoming from sophomore Tennis set Young & Old, ‘My Better Self’ continues this Colorado band’s streak of euphonic, existentialist, semi-lo-fi pixie pop. You’d be a doughnut to not want to sway to this one.

The album is scheduled to drop Valentines Day (gonna be a bloody busy day for releases that) on cult Mississippi label Fat Possum Records, and excitingly for us is produced by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys.

Having generated a considerable amount of attention over the past few months with their previous single, EP and video, London hailing 14th return with new visuals for their latest release ‘Take Me There’. Inspired by the 90′s sounds that shaped their formative ears, producer Tom Barber & singer Tracey Duodu bring forth a brand of soulful Electronic-Pop unique to the current landscape – something a lot of people are tuning into. Give it a minute more and soon, the masses will be tuning in too. Truss.
