After premiering her newest track ‘Bambi’ at the Mugler show during Paris Fashion week earlier this week, Azealia Banks has officially unveiled its full version via her YouTube channel. The song, which features very little of Banks herself, is clearly aimed at a wider demographic than Hip Hop can offer. It might appear her mission here is to tap into that all important “Pink Friday” market, who knows.
Six time Grammy Award winner Etta James has passed away, aged 73. After a long battle with Leukemia, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, passed away in Hospital earlier today.
“This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world”, said her longtime friend & manager Lupe De Leon. “She was a true original who could sing it all – her music defied category. I worked with Etta for over 30 years. She was my friend and I will love her always”.
History will write that Etta James laid the foundation for many female artists who came after her. Unafraid to be her imperfect, unapologetic self during a time where women, especially black women, had very little power is something that the world should never overlook. Not to mention the enormity of her talent – a voice like no other, she commanded every second of every moment while singing in front of an audience. A true legend.
FADER have uploaded a live rendition of King Krule’s ‘Has This Hit’ from their Rubber Converse Tracks event in Brooklyn – the song was written when Archy Marshall was just 15, known then as Zoo Kid. He also performed a new track called ‘Rock Bottom’ which you can peep up top.
Another two shining examples of why this young man is such a special act.
For the third time, British producer Jamie XX has remixed Radiohead’s ‘Bloom’. This, unlike the first two concentrates on the dancefloor – a pulsing rhythm, dark House beat and of course, a trademark XX skank vibe.
It’s Friday, tuck in!
This version of ‘Bloom’ is available to pre-order via Young Turks. Be warned though – only 500 copies have been pressed. Get in quick if you want to bag yourself one.
The Internet have released their newest video for ‘Fastlane’, the latest single taken off their debut album Purple Naked Ladies. Featuring Syd the Kid’s love interest from their fantastic ‘Cocaine’ video, it pre-tells the story of their relationship – naturally with an OFWGKTA twist (robbery, car jacking, murder – the usual). By all accounts, another strong video directed by Matt Alonzo.
For whatever reason though, it doesn’t seem to appear that The Internet’s debut album is getting the attention it deserves. An unfortunate fact because it’s a brilliant piece of work and most certainly one of the best things to come out of the Odd Future camp. Highly recommend grab a copy.
That swaggy young, versatile, Brooklyn-residing producer Brenmar cools this soulful slice of air conditioned Juke out alongside scene legends DJ Rashad and DJ Manny, “Dedicated to those who have died for their shoe game.”
SBTRKT just uploaded a ‘new’ track called ‘Atomic Peace’ which he produced back in 2009. The song was never released due to clearance issues, but was played on his Mary Anne Hobb guest mix that same year. A slightly different vibe to what became his debut album, but an interesting retrospective look at how his sound has evolved.
