Since releasing his debut beat tape Dimensional Hymns earlier this year Kwala has been gathering a loyal following amongst beat heads, thanks to his unique blend of post-dubstep rhythms, deep ambient textures and elements of found sound. FreeForm are now happy to bring you Kwala’s new project: Projectionss EP. Six tracks of thick reverb, disembodies voices and scattered percussion that defies genre classification. Consider this the warm up to Kwala’s full length LP, coming in 2012 on FreeForm Records.
JohnnyBoy from the Overknights collective comes with an interesting visual offering for the title track off his Timewarp Expresso EP out now. In the video you see JohnnyBoy getting busy with that cheeky Roland SP404 sampling station, really digging those pad sounds. Some nice off key bleeps, changing time signatures and cosmic spluttering make this beat-cypher complete.
New track from Germany’s Anthony Drawn. An upcoming release on 17tumba. Part of Volume 2 in the “Dark Clover presents Origami Sound” compilation – coming out in February. Drawn’s vinyl LP coming out january 2012! This is deeply atmospheric and wonderfully relaxing. That old school vinyl crackle gets me everytime!
With South London-bred, Warner signed Tawiah being one of our favourite hometown artists, and top tips to make noise in 2012, we’re happy to present a little exclusive PinBoard premier shot by Ladoja & Sons.
‘Little Drummer Boy’ itself is a much loved seasonal record that’s been reworked numerous times in the last sixty years. Now the young songbird puts a beat to the marching skin, as we join in the spirit at her Battersea flat front-room with piano accompaniment for this updated live version. It’s a grand yet cosy spectacle that she builds up majestically, to remind us why she’s amongst the most diverse contemporary acts with a classic streak that Britain has to offer right now.
Additional central heating: free download of Tawiah’s Run EPhere as (finally) released on Monday.
Not one to give the public a simple flicker of boob and win over American nationals with a star spangled backdrop, Lana Del Rey unveils beautiful visuals involving regal tigers, passionate embraces and blossoming head gear.
Love for Sampha runs deep. His masculine, gritty yet vulnerable tone slots into every electronic/bass and ballad put out this year. His wails this time are inserted on Koreless bass ridden riddim. Punctuated toy sounds and kick heavy drums are all over this one.
Leaked earlier this year, and given the full length treatment via Jacques Green Allez Allez mix late this year, this one needs to have a release date come 2012.
Known more for their Electronic releases, London based record label Eglo have just unearthed this grown’n'sexy R&B number by producer Krystal Klear and Olivier Day Soul. ‘Never Thought You Would Go’ pays homage to the mid-80s jams and early 90′s New Jack Swing, while maintaining that all important fresh-faced sound. Day Soul’s vocals are as soft and soulful as ever, able to warm the coldest of wintery days.
Limited vinyl run released Dec 19th. Digital out Jan 2012. B-side coming soon.
The Roots latest concept album undun has been on heavy rotation since it’s release earlier this month; In the run up to the albums release the band produced 4 mini-videos (‘Sleep’, ‘Tip The Scale‘, ‘Stomp’ and ‘Make My’) telling the story of their main character Redford Stephens. You can now watch the full story through their 9-minute film which was released today.
Anonymous links popping up in the PinBoard gaff surrounding the forthcoming extended player. Nothing confirmed, so hard facts & fanboy movements first…
Ahead of Lord Bevan the enigma’sKindered EP dropping next Feburary in Japan first, then the UK, feverish anticipation builds with this snippet. Ticking snare of damnation, tumbling time-stretches, dodgy aerial mix-down and & a numb sub breakdown for this 2-Step painkiller – yup, that’ll be him. Need to hear the whole thing – rumoured to be 8 mins long (or so Scratcha DVA via Hyperdub Show/Rinse FM says). There’s been an alleged burst water main on tracklisting also… 1. ‘Kindred’ 2. ‘Lone’ 3. ‘Ashtray Wasp’.
Are we bastards for just wanting another full-length?
A radio rip of ‘To Me’ was upped a few days ago here and now a fully mastered version of that B-Side along with it’s A-Side are doing the rounds for your listening ecstasy below.
‘Treehouse’ has floated around for the best part of a year, it’s another magnificently schizo Soul record that takes us to digital church in a ‘Post’ philandering world and soaks you in something warm. Call it an advanced CMYK-style sound (for debates sake). This, from the burgeoning, prodigal Welsh producer, around whom enlarging buzz guarantees you’ll be getting even better acquainted with in 2012.
Also word on the grapevine is there may be a possible video to accompany one or the other track in coming weeks… We’ll keep you posted.
This 12 inch of Treehouse is out in Jan via label Push & Run.
Part 1 was brought to you here, now check out the next chapter of ‘Ye & Jay’s journey – though it’s really West who seems to be the key protagonist that we’re following thus far in the series.
Warming to see the interaction between him and Spike Lee also…
This recent spate of material has seen Mr. Sense on fine sparring form. He’s sounded re-energized, as if trying to secure his core Hip-Hop market and repair whatever they tried to softy-label him under since his post Resurrection work. Will it work with the cross-over market given the more affable nature of his last few LPs? Loyal Com followers hope so; he is an emcee that’s shown incredible longevity.
‘Raw’ is immensely crafted, No I.D. produced strictly Soul for the streets rap, that no less marches than confidently rolls with golden-age braggadocio, much like Com’s newfangled old zest.
His 8th album The Dreamer/The Believer drops in one week, 20th Dec.
