We first featured Kaleem Taylor in October after stumbling upon his tracks ‘Never’ & ‘Blow Out’. Information on him at that point was pretty sparse, something that is steadily changing as other online platforms begin to catch on. It’s wonderful to see the Writers Block family also showing love, Taylor is set to perform there this Sunday (4th). Not to mention the support he’s receiving from BBC 1Xtra and the like.

Taylor just released his debut EP entitled Smooth, featuring 6 R&B absorbed tracks. The thing that drew me to this young man in the first place is the same thing that keeps my ears interested – his voice. Musically speaking, there isn’t much in the way of innovation here – it’s mostly traditional – something R&B purists will be happy with – but something I hope he experiments with in the future. But ultimately it’s the raspy grit and range which textures and shapes his chops that will set him apart from most other live circuit male vocalists.

Musicology, production and creative foresight are elements that I hope expand and evolve over the next 12 months – treat this as a growing artists’ debut.

There is most certainly something here though – keep listening.
