We posted the first official single from Star Slinger a couple months back and now it’s received the Diplo remix treatment. Glitchy as ever. Listen below…

The Teacha is about to drop his 20th studio album come early 2012, but before he does, KRS-One drops this new track. Aside from the weak green screen antics, the track sounds ‘ight against the boom bap sound bed.

Allowances are made this time…

We’re off to the Neverlands…!

PinBoard is delighted to be teaming up with the Buma Rotterdam Beats Festival this year as official media partners. The three day event (November 17th-19th) focuses on the newest and most exciting developments in contemporary music today. Specialising in Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Dubstep and through a series of live showcases/gigs/workshops and industry insider conferences – it looks to explore both the art and business behind music today.

Acts performing include our very own Szjerdene, Stacey Barthe, Charles Bradley, Pete Philly and a whole host of others.

We’ll be representing the LDN at a industry insider conference which aims to explore the progression and dominance of blogs on today’s music industry. We’ll be talking about the impact online music platforms have had, the way in which we curate our content and much more along side an impressive round table consisting of Okayplayer (US), Juice Magazine (DE), Spash Magazine (DE) and Puna (NL).

Go to the Buma Rotterdam Beats Festival website for the full low-down and lineup. It’s pretty dope. And keep it locked here for more updates. Also, follow us @PinBoardBlog / @PinBoardFilm for some real-time action too.

After the release of her FreEP in the summer, Muhsinah quietly unveils this collaboration with Tokyo based trio. This is taken from the group’s brand new EP, which was released yesterday and also features Guilty Simpson.

Intertwining genres is definitely a sign o’ the times – luring new and complex sounds makes listening to music these days extremely exciting. Weaving the gentle nature of contemporary folk music with intricate electronic ambient arrangements, James Birchell, also know as one man band Rough Fields, produces a strange collection of songs.

At first it may all sound a little uneasy on the ears and while Birchell is not winning any awards for his voice – there is something here. From the experimenal nature of ‘The Harbour Wall’ which layers sound upon melody, upon harmonies, upon more sounds. To ‘Manila’ – a slow burning, twinkling lo-fi musical burst. And knowing that Birchell used ‘rescued instruments’ (a rebuilt mandolin for example) and what he describes as ‘found sounds’ adds to why the whole thing sounds so intricate.

The other side of the spectrum is a bit more difficult and not where Rough Fields shines for me. The EP in it’s entirety is definitely not one for the party crew and admittedly at times, you are simply listen to one ongoing sound… BUT if you want a couple of mellow tracks to add to your iTunes collection, give this a go and let us know what you think.

The Harbour Wall is out now on Kudos Records

I was pretty smitten with Wu Lyf after hearing this months back. But knowing very little about the British band I hestiated on writing a post about them. Months later and now realising that NO ONE knows anything about them has put my mind at ease and encouraged me to post up their new video.

Following the bands mystique and meticulously planned information famine, the video doesn’t reveal much about the band or even show them. What’s new? But it’s cool, dark and ultimately is a standard rock jam. Sprinkling Kings of Leon-esque guitars and festival style drumming, this is definitely a show-piece from the album.

Three years since Lonnie’s last release, it feels well deserved that he is finally back with his latest offering.

Art work up top, tracklist over the jump and catch his new video for ‘Sweet’ here. 20th December is the day.

Alright, light fibs on ‘new’, this refix has been floating a couple months. However, as PinBoard has been invited out to Dutch lands cheers to Buma Rotterdam Beats festival for the next few days, thought I might aswell have a quick-dig via bottomless music folder and throw one up for the ends.

Got love for our girl Katy B, an underground princess that came up basslines blazing and has been werkin’ it on charts and on tour recently. Plus she’s covering (and looking mighty fresh in) this months Notion. We’re also featured in the publication with another hometown heavyweight, but a post on that shortly on that.

Anyway, Silkie is a don of Dubstep done lovingly (‘Beauty‘ from City Limits Vol. 1 still one the most beautiful specimens of the genre ever). Always appreciate dude’s emphasis on musicality, big fan of his.

This a fluffier, fun-times flip from the West London producer who dropped a fantastic City Limits Vol. 2 this year, but it’s still off it’s tits on vibration skank’ism. And Katy’s infectious broken-lullaby flow sits sweetly aboard.

‘Bookuh’, as we say.

Damn, shawty can sang.

Rising LA melody-belter Elle Varner follows up her J. Cole collabo with this barnyard grind-down. Purring 808 bassline + dehydrated woman = slow jam sexy time on a bail of hay. Enjoy.

One of the worlds greatest bands get gullier by the week, with these visual teasers for upcoming concept album Undun, their thirteenth and maybe most elaborate.

This is a robust, mean record featuring P.O.R.N., that unfolds the series of imagery into a romping stick-up-kid fracas.

Plus honestly speaking, there’s only two entities I always anticipate an album from without anxiety, because of their creative consistency/catalogues: one is always Kanye, and one is always The (Legendary) Roots (Crew). Last year’s full-length How I Got Over was nearing the best LP of their long career alongside Illadelph Halflife and Things Fall Apart; maybe even bettering it’s predecessors by being so lean and focused. If they really do go forth on some (reported) orchestral chamber sh*t with Questo driving those grooves home on Undun – then once again they’ll exemplify how real OGs grow old gracefully in Hip-Hop.

I really love these bastards.

Undun drops December 10th.

Woahhhhhhh. I didn’t expect this for my Tuesday morning soundtrack. This is deep. That dark night after the dance / on to the after party/chill out spot flex.

After hearing the B-side a month ago, Dauwd reveals the A-side to his debut release via his Soundcloud – for those of us not quick enough to grab one of the 300 copies made.

Kicking off with a number of centred clicks and distant warbling, it begins conventionally. Somewhere along the way however, the bass thickens, the groove kicks in and before you know it, it’s a neck breaking-screw face take over. The break down mid track shows Dauwd’s softer side too. With the beat shuffling along and the vocal shift a tad sexier, Dauwd brings transports. Dauwd – you G!

….on repeat

You know when you hear something and abruptly scrunch-face, then push a full diaphragm of  ‘uuuuuhhhh’?

Just found myself introduced to this artist by a fellow Jimi head and there’s something almost herculean, that I’m hearing in the first track alone off this guy’s first Warner Bros. issued EP.

Widespread Hendrix comparisons are being made – a humungous weight to assert on the shoulders of this 27-year-young Austin, Texas native. What I do know, is that he prodigiously whacks guitar like a motherf***er.

There’s always a thirst for those other rich teets of Deep South animalism and absolution, in an age that’s dominated by Southern 808 fetishism. Clark Jr. serves a just antique reminder across the 4 tracks ranging from strip joint Blues Rock to gin-drenched, heartsick R&B laments. Swag of a different league entirely. Heightened too by the engineering on the studio recordings, as amplified grunge re-creates the fiery exorcism you imagine escapes his fingers; in the same vein as legends to whom his gift is being resembled.

Throughout he sounds like he’s just stealing his soul back from a devil woman – bloody riveted to hear a full length from this guy in time!

Working our way into the dead of a misty Monday night in London town, here’s a brand new record from upcoming Hastings-born, LDN-based producer Kerogen, currently signed to Lewis Records.

It’s spooky, ambient soundscaping with a dub shuffle that works it’s way into victory dance stabs whilst remaining heavily relaxing. Have a little fiddle with your EQs and make sure you’re letting those filtered sub frequencies tremble through good and proper.
