Despite everyone and their mother having an opinion on Drake’s new album, Take Care still debuted at Number 5 in this week’s charts so big up Drizzy.
Here is a lil’ remix courtesy of Star Slinger. I love what Star Slinger does to this album track, incorporating his trademark bells, xylophone and flavour. Listen below and download for freeeee.
I really love this series, although, I preferred it when each episode featured one artist – not feeling the blend of two. But in any case – peep the stories Common & T-Pain share about the year they turned 17…
You’ll probably have noticed we didn’t do a live stream/commentary of the American Music Awards last night. It’s something we’ve decided not to do anymore – for a multitude of reasons, the main one being evolution. But, we always want to bring you the low-down, so peep some of the key performances from the night including Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown and Drizzy (who’s album debuted #5 in the UK charts – not a bad look considering).
Peep Drake up top and the rest after the jump…
Next week marks the release of Beyonce’s ‘Live at Roseland: Elements’ of 4 double-disc DVD, last night the concert aired in full via Vevo and is now available to stream online. The four-night residency at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom was filmed during the summer (ahead of her pregnancy announcement, although she was with child during these concerts). The DVD package will also include all the videos from the album, as well as a documentary and a 20 page booklet.
Watch how it’s done up top.
November is always my favourite time of year as it means the London Jazz Festival is in full swing. This past week I have been sharing myself between the Barbican and Kings Place watching the like of McCoy Tyner, Jose James and this man… Robert Glasper. Performing with his trio at Kings Place. I was treated to one of the best concerts of the year backed by Derrick Hodge on bass and Mark Colenburg on drums (who was phenomenal) the trio played through material from both Glasper’s own material, Trio and experiment material. Mind and soul bending stuff. Still on a high after the gig I came across PinBoard friend Tanya Auclair posting this track from a Maida Vale session the Trio did a few months back. Capturing and re-working one of my favourite and one of the most beautiful Bjork tracks from her Homegenic album. This is just perfect. Enjoy.
In the lead up to Amy Winehouse’s posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, here is a collection of footage put together in a montage tribute and acts as the video for the 60′s ska cover.
We miss you Amy.
Lioness: Hidden Treasures is out 5th December

I don’t know how this one got past us… the dynamic pairing of Res and Talib Kweli have taken that step to gather a collection of songs and produce their debut album, Habits Of The Heart, which is out now.
This energetic poppy number is the lead single taken from the album out now via Blacksmith Music.

We had 1 through to 7 and now here is the next installment to Radiohead’s remix series. It’s like the gift that keeps on giving.
Jamie XX, Anstam and Nathan Fake are the chosen producers this time round and offer us the extras that didn’t make the final album. Despite that, the epic 7 minute Jamie XX ‘Bloom’ remix is worth the listen and then some.

Yes. Yes. YES.
It was bound to happen, wasn’t it. While most people leaked with excitement on hearing hype machine’s very own golden child, Frank Ocean was performing in London, I held my girlish excitement.
Since the Amsterdam date was announced, I could only hope the Godfather would bless our capital city. Answered prayers and ecstatic screams later, it has been announced that D’Angelo will be at the Brixton Academy come February 3rd.
PSA: Tickets go on sale 9am Friday 25th November here. Until then, I will proceed to listen to his two albums, watch this (Damn, he gets me everytime!)and wait.
Representing Chi Town and our very own London town, hip hop/rock soul collective, 2Morrow’s Victory were bought together due to their shared passion for cycling and more importantly, live music.
After giving this a couple of listens, I see what the group are doing. Drawing from influences across Lupe Fiasco style hip hop, bass ridden soul groove, distorted vocals and with a slight bluesy rock tint. It is nothing new, but I do like this track. Will be interesting to hear a bit more next.
Ps: Not feeling the name. Can’t stand adding numbers, when letters were and still are perfectly acceptable! Lol
Pps: Lost & Found is out December 15th

More Blakey this year? Yes.
We had the B side and here is the howling, hissing, horned out A side. Taken from Love What Happened Here EP out December 11th on R&S Records
Another man from the British soul scene, who I saw live for the first time when he opened for Bruno Mars. However, for some reason Liam Bailey hasn’t had the expected success this year.
After signing to Amy Winehouse Lioness record label and putting out the expected EP, things never seemed to connect for whatever reason. He continued on and found some commercial success featuring on the massive crowd pleaser ‘Blind Faith’ by Chase & Status, but still had difficulty finding his own legs off the back of this.
There could be a range of reasons (timing, wave of #TeamUK pop MCs or just merely song choice) why Liam Bailey hasn’t gone on to be a whirlwind success like many thought he would be this year. Or actually, this could just be the solid set up year, full of necessary graft before diving into 2012? Who knows?
Despite all of this, New York label Truth & Soul are releasing this reggae tinged 7 inch single with Liam Bailey and the Dynamic Soul did. Vibe to it.
Shouts to SB
Earlier in the week, we gave you the track and now here is the video.
Home Again, the new EP, is released on the 1st January via Communion/ Polydor Records.

Since that King remix I posted up back in the summer, I realised what MdCL offers that is special. His whole aim is “balancing electronics and programming with organic and live musicianship. I love for that line to be blurred almost to the point where you don’t know which is which.”
….Summed up in his own words. Now let’s get into this stream!
