The Teacha is about to drop his 20th studio album come early 2012, but before he does, KRS-One drops this new track. Aside from the weak green screen antics, the track sounds ‘ight against the boom bap sound bed.

Allowances are made this time…

We’re off to the Neverlands…!

PinBoard is delighted to be teaming up with the Buma Rotterdam Beats Festival this year as official media partners. The three day event (November 17th-19th) focuses on the newest and most exciting developments in contemporary music today. Specialising in Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Dubstep and through a series of live showcases/gigs/workshops and industry insider conferences – it looks to explore both the art and business behind music today.

Acts performing include our very own Szjerdene, Stacey Barthe, Charles Bradley, Pete Philly and a whole host of others.

We’ll be representing the LDN at a industry insider conference which aims to explore the progression and dominance of blogs on today’s music industry. We’ll be talking about the impact online music platforms have had, the way in which we curate our content and much more along side an impressive round table consisting of Okayplayer (US), Juice Magazine (DE), Spash Magazine (DE) and Puna (NL).

Go to the Buma Rotterdam Beats Festival website for the full low-down and lineup. It’s pretty dope. And keep it locked here for more updates. Also, follow us @PinBoardBlog / @PinBoardFilm for some real-time action too.

Intertwining genres is definitely a sign o’ the times – luring new and complex sounds makes listening to music these days extremely exciting. Weaving the gentle nature of contemporary folk music with intricate electronic ambient arrangements, James Birchell, also know as one man band Rough Fields, produces a strange collection of songs.

At first it may all sound a little uneasy on the ears and while Birchell is not winning any awards for his voice – there is something here. From the experimenal nature of ‘The Harbour Wall’ which layers sound upon melody, upon harmonies, upon more sounds. To ‘Manila’ – a slow burning, twinkling lo-fi musical burst. And knowing that Birchell used ‘rescued instruments’ (a rebuilt mandolin for example) and what he describes as ‘found sounds’ adds to why the whole thing sounds so intricate.

The other side of the spectrum is a bit more difficult and not where Rough Fields shines for me. The EP in it’s entirety is definitely not one for the party crew and admittedly at times, you are simply listen to one ongoing sound… BUT if you want a couple of mellow tracks to add to your iTunes collection, give this a go and let us know what you think.

The Harbour Wall is out now on Kudos Records

I was pretty smitten with Wu Lyf after hearing this months back. But knowing very little about the British band I hestiated on writing a post about them. Months later and now realising that NO ONE knows anything about them has put my mind at ease and encouraged me to post up their new video.

Following the bands mystique and meticulously planned information famine, the video doesn’t reveal much about the band or even show them. What’s new? But it’s cool, dark and ultimately is a standard rock jam. Sprinkling Kings of Leon-esque guitars and festival style drumming, this is definitely a show-piece from the album.
