I first heard ‘I Still Love You’ via Deviation’s RBMA International Festival stream – didn’t know anything about it, just that it was completely smash. I hit our Dev fam up to get the scoop and was informed that the track was by Switch (of Major Lazer) and that it was the first release off his Dubsided label. A surprise to say the least. The vocals come courtesy of Andrea Martin who is famed for writing songs for Monica (‘Before You Walk Out My Life’), En Vogue (‘Don’t Let Go (Love)’) and SWV (‘You’re the One’) to name a few.
I’ve become a little bit obsessed with this choon – on my 5th straight listen. I love it’s relentless, isolated beat and those harmonious BV’s – not to mention Martin’s powerhouse vocals. I miss these types of vocals – remember the 90′s?
Have a listen…
Being a huge fan of their debut longplayer and this single in particular I was a little concerned about this remix. Initially hesitant to press play, I gave it a chance – glad I did too – the stripped down 2 steppy refix by Manchester based Synkro is alright still. Doesn’t hold the ambience and beauty of the original, but nevertheless a nice alternative version for the raving crew. Also a nice sign that Synkro could put out some more gems real soon. [via HT]
Not the best quality but goooood enough for me! The Mighty Mos Def performs at the legendary SOB’s and came correct with some new material over ‘World Premier’, an unheard Dilla track, ‘Sunshine Screwface’ and track #34 aka The Pain from Oh No’s Dr. No’s Ethiopium album. He mentions a new album titled ‘Applied Science’ and later says there isn’t infect a new album…?! Either way…black Dante still got it. Let’s hope there is a new longplayer on the way. Shout to the good people over at BLS for this one
Roots crew extended family member Khari currently rocking as a bassist with his current band, Elevator Fight comes with his first solo EP. His production has previously graced The Roots’ “Game Theory,” “Clock With No Hands,” nearly half of How I Got Over, and finally, on the most recent leak with The Roots and Big K.R.I.T., “Make My.” The project features Khari’s production but puts his vocal talents right up front and center. The music is extremely diverse with R&B, funk, rock, jazz, downtempo, classical, electronic, and hip hop influences which suits me just fine. Half of the EP tracks are actually free downloads so make sure you peep the bandcamp. Press play and enjoy! Shouts to GS for putting me on to this one!
Queen B comes correct with a remix of Kanye produced ‘Party’. Giving the nod to Roc Nation’s J. Cole for the refix instead of Andre 3000!?!!!!. With the release of the “Party” video scheduled for October 26th on BET’s 106 & Park, it seems that the video will too replace Andre 3000 with Cole as well. Peak times.
Here are the new visuals from Comptons’ Buddy. Being 17 years old, signed to Pharrell’s ‘I Am Other’ label is a serious serious nod of approval. The track dropped a couple of weeks back and after it being featured on the How To Make It In America, Vol.2 mixtape its finally got the video treatment. A Neptunes produced certified banger. This is a Compton road video…featuring Pharrell throughout following Buddy hit up all the necessaries.. the local liquor store, skate park, and ending at a barbecue (standard), where an girl on girl altercation breaks out. Looking forward to hearing the rest of this debut project. Don’t get gassed maaaayne.
London Falling is a tribute to everyone’s favourite city and a certified live banger, cleverly screwing & chopping uk bass references with sparkling bits of electronica to destroy the dance. This made me spill my tea this morning. I want to go and tear round the town in my 1.2 Fiesta, windows down shouting abuse at on road wastemen. You know, the normal kind of saturday morning. This comes from the debut album To All Of You on German imprint Melting Pot Music.
Boooookuh. One of my favourite spitters in the game aka the general Shystie comes ‘aaaard with the title track from the new brit flick ‘Sket’ which is currently doing the rounds and showing as part of the London Film Festival (BIG!). Gritty vid, durty instrumental, makes me want to go listen to ‘Diamond in the Dirt!’. LDN stand up tall.
Cocaine 80s, led by No I.D., come correct AGAIN with their newest song, “Six”. This soulful collective again join forces with Common and this track has some serious swagger pon the hook. Really nice keys and again some drums that roll lovingly.
From the new FreEP “Ghost Lady” which you can pick up here. Autumn treats for your ears.
Today is a special day for PinBoard friends and Family. After hearing a sneak peak of the EP after our event #THESUITE at Red Bull Studios London, Golden Glasses, the new EP from the homie Full Crate is finally dropping. Six tracks swagged out to the max.
Electronically bathed, bassline heavy, combined with next level drum patterns and awesome vocoder and synth action make for a masterpiece that draws on influences from across the globe.
Full Crate will be joining the Red Bull music academy in the coming weeks and no doubt this man is only going to keep progressing musically. Peep the whole EP below and pre-order the vinyl 10″ at Rush Hour or go digital over at
. Nuff respect due sir.
Unless you live in Japan or purchased an import copy of Thundercat’s new album The Golden Age of Apocalype, like me you probably haven’t heard ‘$200 TB’. The track was offered as bonus cut on the Japanese version of the LP’s release but has just been liberated for the world to enjoy via Flying Lotus’ soundcloud player – who also produced the jam.
It goes without saying that whenever you listen to Thundercat you are hypotised by the bass – but cot damn, you hearing this?
We introduced you to Herfordshire based Kaleem Taylor last week when we posted his singles ‘Never’ & ‘Blow Out’ – the reaction was strong. He’s now just released a new (quite short, quite simple) video for ‘Interlude’ – and despite it only being 1 minute and 25 seconds long – it displays enough to prove what we already thought. This guy has an beautiful voice and a fantastic ear for melodies – we need more.

‘Toast for the Dead’ comes off Immortal Techniques upcoming (free) project entitled The Martyr. The new ‘album’ will feature appearances from Brother Ali, Joell Ortiz, Styles P and more. Can’t go wrong with Dilla. Or Techniques introspect for that matter.
