You know what it is…

This is such a perfect video – great to see these two giants just having fun, it’s not something you see everyday (they’re usually wearing their cool, right?). Like this a lot.

Seems like a lot of you were feeling this one when I first posted this track by Kof. So was pleased when I just received the video in my inbox.

With the visuals to accompany the track, it still maintains the essence of summer. Shame about the weather in reality though. Peep the video up top.

After the terrible act of wrecklessness that we reported a few days ago, PIAS and AIM (Association of Independent Music) have set up a fund to support the 160 or so indie labels that are severly affected by the London riots. The Sony warehouse held many of the labels stock, which was completely destroyed in the fire. The fund will aim to “support the immediate needs of the labels and artists that we [PIAS] work with.”

Anyone wishing to contact [PIAS] and AIM in respect to this fund should email labelsupportfund@musicindie.com or click the jump for full press release and bank details.

Good to see people looking after our smaller labels.

As Jill Scott continues to enjoy the success of her most recent #1 selling album The Light of the Sun, her former record label Hidden Beach is preparing to release a new album featuring previously unreleased material. While I’m sure Miss Scott is less than thrilled with this, as a (selfish) fan – I couldn’t be happier.

This album is particularly exciting for me as I haven’t really connected that well with Scott’s most recent offering. While I’m over the moon for the (overdue) success she has had with it – I personally don’t feel it’s her strongest body of work. And even though the rest of the album isn’t as blatantly directed towards radio play as the first two singles were – only a couple songs on there feel strong enough to have made an album. But that’s just my opinion, I know many will disagree. So personally speaking – the arrival of this “vault” album featuring “classic” Jilly from Philly couldn’t have come at a better time.

We posted a mixtape sampler of From the Vault Vol. 1 back in April but now Hidden Beach have released a longer preview. And yes, as expected this is very much “classic” Jill Scott, clearly recorded during her earlier years – Neo-Soul blended with that Jilly Funk. #Heaven.

Truesay, they could have come harder with the album cover, still. In any case The Original Jill Scott from the Vault Vol. 1 is due out August 30th.  Can’t wait.

J*DaVey just dropped their new video for ‘Quicksand’ – one of the baddest tunes taken off their Evil Christian Cop: The Great Mistapes EP. Love this tune too much.

Our city is currently in turmoil, senseless criminals (not fighting for a cause, despite what you may be reading/hearing internationally) have taken to the streets to cause havoc – looting and burning cars, shops & houses.

Last night the giant Sony Digital Audio Disc Corporation (DADC) building was set on fire – the plant holds stock for PIAS Distribution, one of the UK’s biggest independent distribution companies who serve over 160 independent labels. While the full extent of the damage is yet unknown – this will undoubtedly have a crippling affect on many of the smaller independent labels – already suffering from a declining industry.

As you can see from the video up top, the fire is massive and as of yet has not been put out fully.
