I’m not a fan of Gaga’s music or, honestly speaking, her voice but when I saw that Mercury Music Prize nominees Metronomy remixed her latest single ‘You & I’ I was compelled to give it a listen.
As you’d imagine I’m not too fond of the original version of this track but Metronomy’s slowed down, looped version saves it… Not entirely, but somewhat (they’re good, not no ones that good). It’s an interesting listen if nothing else…
Always a good thing when Full Crate drops off something fresh – this new mix was put together in celebration of all the festivals he played this year.
“I decided to make a mix for the people to enjoy that festival vibe at home, in the car or on their bike on the way to work. [This is] a 90 minute musical journey filled with some of the newest and best UK / House / Grime / Dub / Broken / Drum & Bass / Electronic sounds”.
Featuring music from Omar, Katy B, Ms Dynamite, MJ Cole, Hudson Mohawke and many more – it’s great to see UK influence running so deep! Brap.

As promised The Dream dropped his free 1977 LP today…
I can’t really say much on this, I’m about to download it myself – I’m probably not the best placed person to comment either – never really been his biggest champion. I’ll leave the gushing and intellectualising to my co-pilot who often cites Dream as some type of R&B wizard.
I am loving the current flux of nu-R’n'B female singers, in all their various forms. From Jhene Aiko, to Rochelle Jordan and now Stacy Barthe’s who’s debut EP has just arrived.
Having already written hits for the likes of Rihanna and Britney Spears, it’s now time to be introduced to Stacey Barthe the artist. Her Sincerly Yours EP features her recent Frank Ocean collaboration, as well as 7 other brand new songs.

Hassaan Mackey on mic duties and Apollo Brown on the boards, together make Daily Bread. And after a quiet debut entry earlier this year the duo reignite the album with this Oddisee remix of Elephants.
PinBoard favourite Star Slinger gives the boys from Oxford the rework treatment for their latest single Swimmhaus Johannesburg. Post carnival hangover vibes. Manchester’s finest Mr Slinger yet again comes correct with this one. Those drums, the MJ Cole type pads over those vocals….Jheeeeeez and bread. An Animal Collective type vibe on this one. For more Star Slinger goodness and to download this track for gratis head over to his Soundcloud page right ‘ere.
Aside from the Notting Hill Carnival this weekend, one of the last big festivals of the season was going on. Reading and Leeds festival was host to the very best of rock, indie, alternative and everything in between.
I had to post up our favourite masked wonder, SBTRKT performing one of my favourite songs of his debut album, ‘Hold On’. With Sampha alongside, I am definitely keen to see more of the live set this autumn.
Well rested and fully partied out after the Bank Holiday antics, I’m catching up on all the going on’s over the last few days and happy to see Jamie XX provide my Tuesday back-to-work soundtrack. Recorded down in the Radio 1 building, he pulls out a two hour mega mix of the best out of his bag. Looking forward to tucking into this one – Jamie XX does it again.
Stream below, catch the track list over the jump. Big up Young Turks for the stream
Bieber goes in on Drake’s ‘Trust Issues’ and I can’t lie – the kid does a pretty decent job. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again – just remember what happened when Justified dropped. Give this one a few years, who knows…
Tonight the MTV Video Music Awards 2011 will air live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre and as always, we’ll be providing a live stream for you right here. This years show will see performances from Adele, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Lil’ Wayne, Lady GaGa, Jessie J and many more. If rumours are to be believed Jay & Kanye will also be taking to the stage…
In addition to this, as ever we’ll be posting all the performances and winners just after they air / are announced.
First up, tell me that’s not the baddest album cover? Mary is (still) too much.
Secondly, and probably more importantly – ’25/8′ is a brand new track off Mary’s forthcoming album My Life II: The Journey Continues. And I must say, I’m not mad at it one bit – I like it. And I think in time I’ll probably love it. Let it resonate a little – I think for a lot of people this one may be a bit of a grower.
I find the “what’s your favourite album?” question impossible to answer – my list is filled with albums that simply refuse to be put any type or order, least of all chronological. But one thing is for certain, if such a hypothetical list ever did exist The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill would reign extremely high, near the peak in fact. Not only is it one of the most important, successful and much loved albums of the past 10 years – it’s also one that means a great deal to me personally.
Watch this short interview with Lauryn Hill at Rock the Bells where she dissects her classic album and reflects on it’s creation and impact over the years.
