Now for something a bit more soulful. Virginia unsigned rapper, Bobby Blunt and Australian  producer, as well as Red Bull Academy attendee, Ta-Ku come together to bring this five track EP.

Often times, music, sounds and concepts are transmitted through the worldwide connections, but it’s been a while that I have heard a collection of songs that are in unison, lyrically and production wise from relatively unknown corners.

Blunt’s rhyming and singing (at times the John Legend-ness similarities are strong.. STRONG I tell you!) flows smoothly against Ta-Ku’s original beat making. Essences of funk, hip hop and soul slipped in subtly and in the right amounts are making for perfect listening right about now.

Obviously not the moon at all. More like a dressed up rehearsal space somewhere in our lived in planet.

Point aside, this live rendition which was filmed as part of a game, where you can unlock more Moon side videos, reminded me of why Wounded Rhymes got regular playbacks.

I have been patiently sitting on Teedra Moses beautifully entitled Complex Simplicity for a good few years, awaiting a equally perfected sophomore album. After having the label issues that most female R’n'B/Soul singers have in the early stages of their recording career, Moses is now firmly seated in the Maybach Music Group, driven by Rick Ross.

In preparation (or I hope) for her next full album, Moses drops this mixtape in celebration of Independence Day. Apt really.

Her previous mixtapes, have been hit or miss for me. Mostly the latter and probably because of my automatic comparison to the debut LP. It set the standard. And in the reigns of the ‘Boss’, I’m not entirely sure the Teedra Moses we were introduced to, will return. I guess we will have to wait until the album, but until then get into this Luxurious Undergrind. Tracklist over the jump.

Personally, I have grown slightly tiresome of the infamous wobble, Atari type electronics and the dubbed drop. However, it’s kind of one of the founders of this genre to put out something for everyone’s listening pleasure.

Albeit slightly generic and a bit uninspiring, generous of Skream none the less to fit in amongst his Magnetic Man duties.

Mixtapes are quite literally ‘flying’ everywhere these days. Sorry – I had to.

The one we know as Fly Lo has delivered a fresh mix for that 4th o’ July summer listening. A sequel to the Stones Throw Podcast #66, (which you can grab here) and clocking in at over two hours, I have no doubt there are some gems on there. I’m about to get into this now.

Enjoy.

Pharrell has been keeping busy I see. Not only featuring on this new track  that is riding the interwave before the forthcoming album drops, but also getting his production credits. Also loving the Chi-Town duo on this type of laidback instrumental. Peep another leaked track from the longplayer over the jump.

When Fish Ride Bicycles is out July 12th on Green Label Sound.

Good to see Ghostpoet getting consistent but progressive love from the scene and even better that he has a headline show at Scala to look forward to this Autumn.

After working with us, in addition to a strong album behind him, hotly tipped for a Mercury nomination later this year and tour memories from all round the country and Europe, it will be good to see what is sure to be a great deliverance in London Town come Thursday 13th October.

Tickets are cheap, so honestly don’t be late on this one. Can grab them from here.

As Tyler was missing his regular home comforts so much recently whilst travelling the world, touring and spreading Wolf Gang fever in every corner he can possibly reach, he created a new alias (DJ Stank Daddy) and made a mixtape. So vintage. Bless. It features the likes of Badu, Smith Westerns and Tyler’s favourites – N.E.R.D

The man himself wrote:

Hi. I’m On A Big Tour In Europe Right Now, Pretty New To This. I’m Used To Spending Summers Not Doing Anything Productive With My Friends. I’m Really Fucking Home Sick, Not Only That, I Have A Cast On, So, To Feel Better, I Put Together An Hour Mix Of Songs That I Like To Listen To, That Reminds Me Of Summer Back Home. Fuck A Tracklist, Figure It Out. GOLFWANG. -Tyler.

No need to go figure, tracklist after the jump.

I am pretty sure we have been speculating about the Jay and Ye project for the best part of a year now. Now halfway through the year, the rumour mill has started up again.

Watch the Throne album artwork has been revealed and a release date (of sorts) has been scheduled. You can preorder the album here, and can listen to it come August 2nd.

After all the back and forth-ing, I hope this good.

I’m glad I got a minute to watch this!

Hearing some of my favourite artists discussing the merger of music and the hip hop/soul influences that have inspired them as artists over the years made for the great viewing for those amongst us that feel like connoisseurs of the movement. It was even better with the powerful backing of the almighty, ever hard working Roots collective. With features from Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu, Q Tip, D-Nice, Ron Isley, Bobby Brown, Chaka Khan, Daniel Merriweather, Eve and more, we definitely need more of these episodes…

Actually, Roots, Hennessy holler at your favourite blog (ahem – PinBoard) let’s do this, UK side! lol

Radiohead pretty much do what they want. And for the summer, they want to release as many remixes as possible on 12″. The first tracks in the series, which also are available digitally, are pretty cool, dance ridden remixes of a couple of The King of Limbs album cuts. Provided by Caribou and my most recent favourite remixer G, Jacques Greene. The band promise much more of the same in the next few weeks. In their wise words, basically “until we run out of remixes or summer.”

Cop the physical format tomorrow at all good record stores.

So Game has dropped the ‘The’, swapped the chucks for a tux and bought a different side to the flow we are used to. Loving the classy vintage feel to the monochrome visuals and of course it’s always good to see Justin and Pharrell on board, makes me wonder how this song would sound with just the two of them. Better? Possibly – what do you think?

Festival season is well and truly upon us. With Glastonbury done and hibernating for the next two years, there is still room for plenty more festival fun, with Wireless and Hop Farm over the weekend and Lovebox and Soundwave still to come, I’m definitely ready for the summer months. Aside from multi artists, multi stage happenings, Janet is in town singing hit after hit at the Royal Albert Hall. We went down to the first night and she was amazing. Honestly.

Also in town is Ms Badu and her annual show at Brixton Academy, J*Davey is flying over to show UK some love and those Odd Future boys (and girl) are back to cause more havoc. Hit the jump, there’s tonnes.

Brand new soulful hip hop straight from the other side of the world. A colloborative duo consisting of rappers Tom Scott and Lui Tuiassau hailing from New Zealand has caught my ear this Sunday.

‘Nobody’ drops straight away with a warm bounce setting up your head for a few bops before the lycrists enter. Working with that throwback sound, a nice flow and a catching chorus, this track is a winner. On finding out a bit more about the duo, the forthcoming album @peace due for release this month has the  workings of  Christopher El Truento of Wonderful Noise fame on excustive producer credits. As well as Benny Tones of Electric Wire Hustle who also has a hand to play in this LP. Quality is written all over this album and is surely shaping up to be one to listen out for. Have a listen to the cut below, that dropped via their Soundcloud.

Shouts to Moovmnt for putting us on this.

I haven’t listened to this track in a minute so really glad to be posting this one. A new video offering for the classic Madlib/Quasimoto track from the album The Unseen. The clip was directed by Kristoffer Crook as a submission for the Stones Throw Video Contest. Gotta love Lord Quas.
