British rapper, Incisive releases this video for new single ‘Just Wait’ taken from his self entitled album. Honestly, I like the laid back keys and that mellow bass, but I am not entirely convinced by Incisive’s content. Everything else takes centre stage for me, from the instrumentation to the lead vocal provided by Shakka to the monochrome video itself.

Nonetheless, good efforts thus far…

‘Just Wait’ is out June 12th on My ‘Ish

Earlier this year Plug Research hosted an ‘open-call’ for remix submissions of Bilal’s ‘Robots’, a track taken off his critically acclaimed, Grammy nominated album Airight’s Revenge. Producers from all around the world got to work, attempting to create the perfect reworking. The winning 7 compositions were then made into a special ‘Robots’ remix EP – which was released digitally today.

The guys behind the Tensai remix just sent me their version, I can definitely see why theirs was chosen – this is superb. It does it’s own thing, while staying true to Bilal’s original composition. I love that it gives the track something new, the synthesised production works brilliantly here. Listen below.

The second is by Remy LBO and features Blu (unofficially) – this one is completely different from the former. This version adopts a more Dilla-esque steeze. It bumps beautifully and features some gorgeously sustained chords – this, I think is very special. A complete reworking which works perfectly. It reminds me of something Bilal would have produced on his first two albums. Listen below.

My ears are very happy right now. Make sure you get that remix EP and check out the other interpretations by Zack Sekoff, Chuck Treece Featuring Hezekiah & Ishe, Strangeloop and Hazeem, Stevo & Merse. Buy it via iTunes.

Marques is a name I have been following since the dude jumped up on a pool table at Spike Lee’s party a while back – dude silenced a bustling noisy room full to the brim within a second. His voice sends shivers down my spine and I always look forward to material from this man. This video comes courtesy of the good people over at Mahogany Blog. Make sure you pick up his EP Butterflies Are Not Free out on iTunes now… Trusssss me.

You have to allow us for the bank holiday hold up as this dropped over the weekend (and we were still recovering form the OFWGKTA madness) . Fresh video shot on location in Kingston for another new Wiley single this time featuring the vocal talents of PinBoard favourite and in demand G….. Mr Ed Sheeran. Nice tune, laid back vibes. Early evening tipple music

New video from Blitz the Ambassador, ‘Best I Can’ featuring Corneille off the new album, Native Sun, which gets it’s release today. I saw this dude performing in Prospect Park in BK for the Celebrate Brooklyn event couple of years back and have tried to keep up with the man. He was supporting Big Daddy Kane and absolutely tore the place up with his full live band (and upstaged BDK if i’m being honest). His live shows are second to none so make sure you remember the name and catch him when you can. Video directed by Terence Nance and Blitz the Ambassador.

Peter Hadar returns with a new single titled ‘Your Body’ which comes off his upcoming new album Take Off Victoria.

The exotic sounding instrumental, Hadar’s vocal and melody – this is my jam right now.

RBMA Radio was on hand to record Andreya Triana’s recent Shoreditch House gig, which featured live renditions of ‘Darker Than Blue’, ‘Draw for the Stars’, ‘The Keeper’, ‘A Town Called Obsolete’, as well as a couple unreleased tracks like ‘I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know’ and ‘Ain’t Nobody’.

Highly recommend you take a few minutes out of your ‘back-to-school’ Tuesday and listen to this – I promise, it’ll ease that post-double bank holiday head ache.

… Make you check (or re-check) our exclusive ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ episode featuring this beautiful young lady – it’ll break your heart.

Ever since our newest crew member (shouts to @MadameToussant!) put us on to Gods’illa and their forthcoming CPR BlendTape project (hosted by DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown aka Erykah Badu) I’ve been quite keen to hear more. The two tracks she posted were beautiful, thankfully this one follows very much in the same vain.

Featuring singer Maimouna Youssef, ‘You Don’t Have To Be a Star’ uses a gorgeous sample of the Billy Davis, Jr. and Marilyn McCoo’s classic(of the same name). Gods’illa lace the loop with an undercurrent Hip Hop beat, introspective lyrics and Youssef’s sweet vocals – resulting in something really beautiful and summer-like. Lovely.

Solange dropped a new ‘unofficial’ track via her soundcloud yesterday – a track which see’s her covering Boards of Canada’s ‘Left Side Drive’.

Not necessarily bouncing off the walls over this one, but as it’s not an official track, I won’t be too critical. It’s nice enough.

… That said, I am fully looking forward to hearing Solange’s new music, I think the direction she’s been heading in could result in some really cool, exciting material.

P.s that picture.

When I first heard this song, I hated it. But, it has (admittedly) steadily grown on me, this video has helped somewhat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware that in the the grand scheme of things – this is ‘any song’, and that this guy still needs to come much, much harder – but Chris sells it with his performance. The video is a kinda cheesy, the styling is terrible but the choreography saves it, ultimately.
