It was a cold December night last year when ‘Paper Planes’ first drops into my inbox, being the musical snob (that I can sometimes be) I passed on it – like most of UK grime/hip hop et al that was being sent my way at the time. I now apologise because MY GAAAAARDDDD DAVINCHE!!!
Baby Blue comes correct with a this new remix as do the featuring J2K and Scruffizer, but what makes this track standout still are those Davinche produced duuuurty drums. I need to find me the instrumental!
Visually mundane, musically delightful – peep Nostalgia 77 and Josa Peit performing ‘Cherry’, taken off 77′s new album The Sleepwalking Society (out now)
It’s tagged, but we can deal with that. Here goes Bey’s new track in full, sampling Major Lazer’s ‘Pon De Floor’…
…Can’t lie, I’m not 100% sold on this yet. It’s not as hard as I thought it was going to be. Don’t quote me. Might be a grower – will need to reload a few more times.
What you saying?
Update: Hearing on twitter from a few fan sites that this is demo version, hope so. Final version added. Got to say, think this might be one of my least favourite Beyonce tracks. Massive let down.
P.s Just added the artwork for the single. So, it’s called ‘Run the World (Girls)’ after all. Ah well.
News just reached that Pusha T will be re-releasing hisFear Of God mixtape as an EP featuring new tracks, in addition the video for ‘My God’ (off said tape) just hit the interwebs.
One half of veteren dancefloor fillers, Basement Jaxx, Ratcliffe (government name Simon Ratcliffe) unleashes this new track entitled ‘Tighrope’. The drum pattern and crashing snares complimented the video-game glitches. And while there is a lot going on in this, it is those very drums that take center stage and do it for me. My garrrrrssshh – you can hear that Travis Barker-esque energy spilling through.
This is Ratcliffes first solo foray in over a decade and is taken from his soon to be released EP Dorus Rijkers out June 9th. This track alone excites me. Have a listen.
Just before Raphael Saadiq joined us in the Red Bull Studios London, he stopped by the L.A studios to do a few performances with his band. The Soul man performed a few tracks off his new album Stone Rollin’, he also spoke a little bit about the album.
Up top, peep the interview portion and after the jump, check out live renditions of ‘Radio’, ‘Day Dreams’ & ‘Movin’ Down the Line’.
And in case you’ve been living under a rock, make sure you check out (or re-check out) our exclusive Rehearsal Room session with Saadiq, where he performed a stirring rendition of ‘Good Man – watch that here.
And, another one. Ok, maybe this really is the last (good) one we’ll post. Again, I say maybe, who knows – but for now, enjoy yet another brilliant set from this years epic Coachella festival – this time courtesy of Nas & Damian Marley.
The Coachella performance videos keep on coming. Trying to slow em’ down, but this just landed and I have another one waiting in my inbox. Can’t not post The Black Keys’ performance, it wouldn’t be right.
Love these guys. Their album Brothers is out now, has been for a while – comes highly recommended.
If you don’t reside in the UK, Europe or Japan and you didn’t hit up your local retailer on Saturday 16th April for Record Store Day to grab a physical copy, the likelihood is you have not heard these additional tracks recorded during the King Of Limbs sessions which receive their official release over the weekend.
But don’t worry, even if not lucky enough to have these tracks on wax, have a listen below and download.
Continuing what has been a (bloody) great day for music (go to our homepage, scroll down, feast) – we present you with Tom Vek’s new single ‘A Chore’. This is the first single taken off Vek’s forthcoming album Leisure Seizure (June 6th), his first full album in 6 years.
I am fully involved. Love everything about this. That beat, the multi-instrumenation, the general tone and of course, the vocal – fits beautifully. Video is a #win too. Lol.
One of my favourite producers around Onra, just liberated a brand new video for his track ‘Sitting Back’, taken off his album Long Distance (one of the best albums of 2010).
The LP is particularly special because it was put together by sampling tons of 80′s Funk vinyls – but done so in a way only Onra could do. The video, paying homage to the albums recording process, was compiled by Matt Ferran using “obscure 80′s videos and a few internet clips”.
If you haven’t heard / got Onra’s Long Distance record, I urge you to invest. Buy now.
These 2 tracks from Gods’Illa’s CPR BlendTape really hit the spot for me.
They’re gritty where they needs to be gritty and bump where I need them to bump (pause). This Hip Hop trio (brothers Acem Eternal Mind, God Allah Truth, and Powerful Rasheem Mathematics) will be dropping their first ever mixture hosted by Erykah Badu aka DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown on April 29th. While we wait though, Spike Lee’s classic ‘Do The Right Thing’ inspired ‘Sal’s Pizzeria’ will have you “on the scene like Radio Raheem with a box.”
The full mixture promises features from Sean Price, Maimouna Youseff, RatheMC, yU of Diamond District, KingPen Slim and more.
Gods’Illa – ‘Sal’s Pizzeria’
Gods’Illa – ‘Everybody’ Fear Substantial & Kingpen Slim
Download both these tracks via Gods’illa’s bandcamp.
Full Crate always provides the vibes – but this track has a little back story. This song was ‘commissioned’ by Brian Elstak, who’s currently putting on “his first solo exposition called: Memories of Axel Foley”. Elstak asked several producers to produce a track inspired by one of the 11 paintings on show, Full Crate got to channel a piece called ‘Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas’ – this was the result…
