New track off Nostalgia 77′s upcoming album The Sleepwalking Society (March 22nd) featuring German singer Josa Peit.

The songs simplicity is beautiful; The lone cello, the staccato plucks of the harp, all meshed together by Piets seemingly heartbroken vocals.

B.Lewis just dropped a brand new beat tape called Science Within Reason. This mammoth 30 track project is filled to the brim with Lewis’ trademark Soul-funk influences. His productions always seem to satisfy my wayfaring musical libido. I’m about 4 tracks in and am very happy with what I’m hearing so far.

It’s a free tape, so listen and download via the bandcamp player below…

Stop gawping.

Brand new Terrace Martin EP has dropped and we’re sweet-talking total jizz-and-G-strings tremendousness with this one.

Slept on for a minute now despite some dope material last year, his craftings remain lush & heavy on this set of layered, amorous jams.

Jeez, I’m ’bout to keel over to multi-instrumentalist Martin’s saxophone game, squeezing every production into an exceptionally smooth porno potion. You’ll experience some form of fine, physical sleeping – but you’ll not be sleeping on it. Believe.

Charmingly titled ‘Cum Baby’ is one of my favourites on this first spin, but our SoundCloud’s acting foolish so one can’t stream for you right now. Featuring involvement from Hi-Tek and 9th Wonder, just free download above now and call your boo over…

PinBoard keep an ear out for the romantics.

(That cover, out to Speeakz & his big Kim Kardashian stan ass self.)

Experimental orchestrated, New Yorkers, Gang Gang Dance return with the lead track from their new LP ‘Eye Contact’ with this sonic 11 minute piece of goodness.

Press play. Jam.

Some blog nights can be sluggish when you’re selective about content & the net’s congested with crap (sometimes), but this wonderful, recently-aired documentary from BBC Four giving deserved prominence to the history and impact of Reggae culture in the UK these last fourty years is a must-watch

British music’s always been amongst some of the most innovative anywhere in the world, but what would it have rendered our prized bass culture, our Jungle, Drum n’ Bass, Garage, Grime, Dubstep and other sub-genres if we’d not had Reggae’s galvanizing effect?

Don’t sleep on the roots. Lively up yourself, press play.

San Diego beat maker, AbJo releases his latest free download. Spoiling us with 21 tracks of soulful, hip-funk instrumentals.  Although not full songs, AbJo tantalises us with extended snippets of what he is capable of doing. Merging seventies samples with intricate drum claps, laid back piano melodies and set apart by simple percussion inserts and even at times a hint of wind pipes. Ultimately nothing new, but when done well, it is easy not to tire of such sounds. Mission complete. AbJo has me doing exactly what he commands on the packaging. Listen, download and turn it up.

I’ve made my feeling about the new Michael album very clear, so I don’t need to get into it again. But for all those who are interested in hearing the abomination that can be found within the posthumous album, hit play.

Note: my feelings are directed towards musical content, not the video per-say. I’m in different to these visuals…

… Apparently Michael inspired strippers too. Right on.

I know many will, but I can’t hate on this. I think it’s fresh. Welcome back Breezy. And Busta for that matter.

…The mirror ball face is a win.

Speeakz said I was banned from ever posting any Lil B on PinBoard. We came to the conclusion he’s too easy a mark of idolatry for hipster mp3 bloggers. Wonder what he’s going to say when he sees I’ve taken a near-executive decision to this pop this up…

The parody rapper (“Hoes on my dick, cause I look like Jesus” anyone?) tearing off the tiny pants and staking a serious claim with these three respected Hip-Hop torch holders?

All I’m saying is, lol. And Swag. Swag. Swag. And I even validly fucks with this.

Not as apocalyptic as the critics will have you believe. 9th and Phonte aren’t shy of sending a few jolts through the Rap community… remember when Little Brother announced their collabo with Lil’ Wayne in ’07?

(B’s not on Weezy’s level mind you, #nomisinterpretations)

Ah, yes! I can finally share this with you! As I mentioned in my review of Fatima & Floating Point’s forthcoming Follow You EP, Eglo was planning on releasing some streams – here goes the first.

The extended players closing track, produced beautifully by sir Points features a rather tantalizing 808 kick, funk progression, and a heavenly set of chords. Not to mention, sensual vocals from the one and only Queen Fatima.

What did I tell you about this EP? Ergh, just you wait…!

Follow You drops May 9th 2011.

What, a year later they decide to drop this? Really? Remember back when Alicia Keys’ last album came out she filmed a video with Beyonce for their ‘Put It In a Love Song’ collabo? They shot it out in Brazil, you remember that right? Well, we’ve all been wondering over the past year (?) where the heck that video ended up – it seems like they’re now planning on releasing it. When, I do not know, but considering this trailer just dropped, I would assume pretty soon. Lets hope.

Our good mate Melo-X is heading back over to these shores later this month and while he’s over here he’ll be rocking the stage live at YoYo on Thursday 31st March. I haven’t been in years, literally, but I’ll be heading down to catch this for sure.

You’ve all been clued up by now on what this guy does, super talented producer, killer emcee and generally – just a really talented fellow. If you haven’t seen him rock the stage before, you should defintiely take advantage of this opportunity.

Oh, and in addition, Melo just put up a new remix of Quandron’s ‘Average Fruit’ on iTunes – cop that here. His original remix (?) of that track can be found on the More Merch tape he dropped – here.

It’s funny, back in 1997 the term ‘Neo-Soul’ was given to an exciting movement which spawned some of the most creative and important artistry our culture has seen in generations. Pioneered by the likes of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, it represented a new age in contemporary Soul. Over the years however, through a combination of over saturation, mislabeling and general commercialisation, the term has become disfigured, disrespected, dirty almost. At one point any and every black artist making Soul music, infused with the tiniest smidgen of Jazz or Blues was considered ‘Neo-Soul’ – irrespective of whether or not the music they were making warranted such a highly regarded label. And if said artist had a head wrap, wooden jewerly or a bald head – they instantly gained an honorary pass. And thus, marking the beginning of the end.

But, it is with great pleasure that I describe LA based newcomers KING as a Neo-Soul group. I’m not entirely sure any other classification is as fitting. They’re not merely riding a wave, or duplicating the sub-genres former success, instead they are creating their own sound, their own movement – but drawing on the foundations built by the aforementioned innovators. It’s pretty exciting actually. Not only because the music they’ve produced is aurally pleasing, but because there seems to be a genuine buzz surrounding them. The power of social networking has most certainly helped bring attention to their cause, in the past week I have seen Questlove, Erykah Badu and plenty of others expressing their respect and enthusiasm for the material they are releasing. That’s how I became to know of them.

Twins Paris & Amber and close friend Anita collectively known as KING have just released their debut EP entitled The Story. It features 3 very beautiful, simplistic songs produced and performed entirely by themselves. These ladies posses a very refreshing sound and spirit – a true rarity within the over saturated megabit age we’re currently dwelling in.

Watch their handmade stop animation video for the EP’s title track above and listen to full project via the Soundcloud player below – if you like what you hear, support it by purchasing it…

Jamie Woon’s debut album mirrorwriting will be released on April 11th 2011. The 12 song LP, which will include singles ‘Night Air’ & ‘Lady Luck’ has been three years in the making and according to Woon “is a calming record, made for [myself] and for other people”.

Drawing on his wide-reaching influences, mirrorwriting infuses R&B, Folk, 90′s Soul and Blues; combine this with Woon’s spectacular lyricism and unique idiosyncrasies and you have a very special amalgamation. His dark tones, most likely inspired by his love and work with producers such as Burial positions him in a very exciting place – unlike any of his other contemporaries (including James Blake), Jamie Woon is tapping into a much loved, but long gone futurist R&B movement which took place over 10 years ago. He is a product of my generation and for that, I for one am extremely excited about his future.

“It’s personal, almost therapeutic. I’m quite a private person and I don’t set out to talk about my business in public but when songs are done you can’t get around it. They are like a code, and all you need is a mirror to read it.”

If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend you check our ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ featuring Jamie Woon performing ‘Night Air’.

Update: The album has been pushed back to April 18th.
