Congrats that Odd Future morbid motherf***er Tyler The Creator for signing a one album deal with XL Recordings. Long had he been the blogger’s preserve (unless you’re 2DopeBoyz or whoever else he previously pissed off) but in the last week young homie’s rep has grown sizeably and fallen like bird stool across the windscreen’s of the world thanks to his masterful ‘Yonkers’ video/track. Absolute viral power moves, that don’t stop there…

His recent remix of ‘I Follow Rivers’ by that other highly fetishized bloggers delight, Lykke Li, is both clever and winning in it’s washy synths and rolling 808 drum formula (reminiscent of a couple old Neptunes Rn’B productions actually). Juxtaposable sexiness that goes onto be atypically raped by a charming Tyler verse.

Great stuff.

…And rightfully so.

Pop star Rihanna is being sued by legendary photographer David LaChapelle who claims that she plagiarised his iconic photographs in her new video for ‘S&M’. LaChapelle is suing Rihanna for replicating 8 of his images and is claiming “the music video is directly derived from and substantially similar to LaChapelle works…[It copies] compositions, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colours, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting”.

The first thought that entered my mind when I watched ‘S&M’ was “damn, she got David LaChapelle to direct this?” because it looked so similar to his work, not only looked but felt like it too. The colours and textures, everything. When I found out that in fact Melina directed it, I was rather shocked. Not cool. This video blatantly steals from David LaChapelle and so it’s only right he is suing for damages.

Don’t steal.

Recorded in 2008, Carlitta Durand releases a loose track named ‘Monster’, produced by Daru Jones. This is cool, I’m not fully loving it but it’s cool. It really reminds me of Muhsinah.

The buzz around Tyler, the Creator’s newest video / track ‘Yonkers’ (up top) is really quite impressive and with the news that he has just signed a deal with XL Recordings – that hype is going no where fast.

The independent rapper has inked a one album deal with label XL, home of Gil-Scott Heron, Jamie XX, Adele, Dizzee Rascal, Vampire Weekend and The Cool Kids. Fans worried about his artistic ingretity need not fret however, the 20 year old took to his twitter and said: “Yes, I Did A One Album Thing With XL. Thats Family. Don’t Trip, Still Have %100 Creative Control Over Raps, Beats, Videos, Covers. Fuck You”.

I think Tyler & XL are a perfect pairing. The label is renowned for cultivating real artists/musicians and allowing the freedom to be themselves. Massive congrats indeed.

Desk-skank ting!

SBTRKT drops a new track via Young Yurks called ‘Living Like I Do’. A little funky-garage number for you and your mundane (or not?), love soaked day. This is definitely one we’d need to hear in a rave situation, but for now – like I said – desk skank. Gun fingers at the ready (and on the sly). Pow.

Superstar Janet Jackson, looking all kinds of beautiful, appeared on Dateline last night for an “emotional and revealing” (pause) interview, in it she talks about issues with weight, her new book, her family (and her “painful” relationship with her father”) and mourning the loss of Michael.

Check part 2 after the jump…

Last night The Black Keys took home the ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ Grammy for Brothers – a much deserved accolade for one of my favourite albums of 2010. Not sure how versed you are on this band, but they really are the business, highly recommend you check their album(s) out. I love their sound, that classic mix of Rock & Blues.

Have a look at them performing their new single ‘Howlin’ For You’ on Jay Leno last night.

P.s Peep the full list of Grammy winners here. Watch all the performances here.

Say what you want about V-Day, it does produce some tasty music / mixes. I don’t want to over saturate the site with them all, we’ve already put up a couple, but when HudMo drops something (anything!) you have to fu*ks with it.

Here goes his 4th Valentines Slow Jam mix, consisting of some sexy-ass early-2000 panty dropping songs from the the likes of Tweet, 3LW, Mya, Donell Jones, Ginuwine and 112. Oh, and some Tevin Campbell in there too – as standard.

Whether you smashing, crashing or dashing tonight – pop this on and I promise, it’ll make everything feel a little better. Ya dig?

Happy Love Day and all that (consumerism) ‘ish! If ever a apt occasion for artists to bring out material, February 14th is up there with Christmas Day. After all everyone likes a bit of talk about the L.O.V.E. SO before the end of the day, let’s keep it British first.

25 year old, West London rapper Incisive drops this 6 track EP with the common scenario that we all have been through. Meet guy/girl. Like. Go out. Love. Break up with guy/girl. End scene.

Yeah that story.

As Incisive bares his feelings over simplistic beats with lyrics such as “We started off picture perfect, now we picking at the picture”, I appreciate the  realism and the storytelling. The EP also stems features from other UK talent, including Nadine Charles, Shakka (watch out for this one) and a PinBoard favourite - Terri Walker. Definitely a real listen that is worthy of your ears.

We’ve been here in the early hours, two bowls of Coco-Pops on stand-by and the Grammy’s streaming live.

Obviously we’re busy scoffing at some of the usual absurdity on display at this musical masquerade tonight (some poorly nominated categories followed by some poorly prized winners)… for now though, a list of the essential categories/winners…
