Eric Lau’s new album Quadrivium is due out February 25th on vinyl & digital. Above is a video trailer for the LP in which Lau talks about the production behind it and where the inspiration for the music originated. Below you can preview theĀ album via his bandcamp player…
‘Amnesia (Remind)’ is taken off Blu’s recently released Amnesia EP, available here.
I was talking to my co-pilot about some of the rappers that were on the come up back in ’08 & ’09 and how many of them have seemingly fallen off or, refused to evolve / develop or have simply failed to deliver. Many of them (naming no names) soundĀ a little irrelevant and dated now – it’s a shame.
Blu, is definitely the exception. He’s always managed to exist above the rest. I’m not worried about him disappointing, he rarely does. But, he is taking way too long to drop that debut. We’ve been waiting. Hopefully it arrives sometime this year.

Us PinBoard lot heard this down at London’s biggest ‘Alt’ shoobz, Deviation, last Saturday night and we started buggin’ out.
Timbo’esque drum syncopation, some Rodney Jerkins sounding synth bits (Blake’s late 90s Rn’B influences at their most apparent here) and the rest is undeniably Blake taking it to church with the Korg to cook up this slow jam.
Quality track that unfortunately didn’t make the LP but can you deny this would have added a smidgen more soulful spice to the whole affair? This being said as an enthusiast before the hype who’s ears were pricked by early off-kilter grooves like his ‘Give A Man A Rod’.
Large respects to our friend Benji B for airing this.
Filmed during his holiday in Cambodia, Jamie Woon sings his new single ‘Lady Luck’ acapella while floating through some Far Eastern marshlands.
This video perfectly embodies why we feel so passionately about this gentleman’s talent. Just listen to the tone of his vocals, his lyrics, his melodies – I don’t know anyone else who is doing what he’s doing. Turning classic R&B ideologies and making them applicable to 2011, while maintaining a real unique sound is a feat that should not be underestimated.
‘Lady Luck’ is a great follow up single to ‘Night Air’ and having already heard some of the tracks off the LP – I can ensure you it only gets better. I hope Woon gets the attention and acclaim he deserves when his album does drop, it would be a shame to see him overlooked.

P.s The video was beautifully filmed too.

No pre-meditated hype or heads up on this one…
Mind you, Khalifa’s buzz IS busier than African bees right now and with this drop coming ahead of the major label debut Rolling Papers schedule for March 29th, let’s wait and see if the kid delivers something that matches the swag of his mixtape work (i.e. like Curren$y managed to) or a bunch of wishy-washy radio singles. I’d prefer the former but fear the latter.
With their eighth studio album King of Limbs anticipated to drop tomorrow (Radiohead opuses akin to Kanye opuses, always an event), here’s the brand new video featuring no unnecessary spectacle but the simple sight of oft-subdued front-man Thom Yorke feeling musical release in a begrimed underground tunnel, as he dances to the groove of some fantastic white boy voodoo.
The song itself is an equally stripped-down affair carried by Yorke’s eerie vocal and harks back to some of their earlier material.
Adele covers Aretha Franklin’s classic ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ for her VH1 Unplugged session. The show will premier on Thursday, March 3 at vh1.com.
My undisputed favourite track off the awesome Lucky Shiner album. One of my favourite long players of last year. Lovely visuals, lovely track.
Kidkanevil very kindly sent me an advance copy of the new Stateless album a couple weeks back, he knew how much I was fiending for it after hearing ‘Ariel’. I can thankfully report that the LP does not disappoint. Not one bit.
Matilda is the groups second album and most certainly displays growth and a real sonic evolution. The group, together with Bjork producer / programmer Damian Taylor, interlace sub-bass dramatics, with insane drum patterns (biggup Kidkanevil!) and melodic tendencies. With the use of strings and other orchestral instrumentation the LP sets a beautifully cinematic ambiance – it’s both intimate and epic.
I was trying to figure out how best to write about this album without posting a track from it (embargo tings), but thankfully Kidkanevil posted up a mini-mix preview of the entire LP – so, have a listen and see what I’m talking about. I think you’re gonna like this.
Matilda drops February 21st via Ninja Tune.
Ryan Leslie recently debuted a new track called ‘Maybachs & Diamonds’ which will appear on the singers forthcoming LP. The song was originally produced for Rick Ross, but it didn’t happen so R-Les decided to take it for himself. A good thing because this sounds really nice!
This is massive. What we tell you about Tyler? The kid has next. Appearing on Jimmy Fallon, backed by the Roots is a mammoth look. Great performance. Reckon middle-America agreed?
‘You Know Your Youth’ is a bonus track taken off James Blake (universally?) acclaimed debut album. The track is… erm… minimal.
