A fantastic new video from one of my favourite bands, The Black Keys. The (now) Grammy winning band twist the idea of a traditional music video by making a rather epic looking ‘movie trailer’. I actually think the execution of this is pretty genius, not to mention hilarious! The Black Keys have dropped some funny videos, but I think this one takes it.
Brothers, the bands award winning LP is out now – I highly recommend it.
‘Chains’ is the new single from Kenna taken off his forthcoming EP Land 2 Air Chronicles – a 3 EP, 3 song series which will precede his full album Songs for Flight.
If I’m being completely honest, I’ve always found Kenna a little hit and miss, but always felt there was something interesting about him. Not to mention, Chad Hugo produces most of his stuff, a fact that always manages to grab my attention. Unfortunately, I’m not really feeling this single that much, I find it a little uninspiring.
Nate and I go way back, we just didn’t realise it until recently. Lol. I saw him on an SB.TV video and instantly recognized him as my neighbour – never knew he was an emcee or involved in the music in any way. Jokes.
Anyways – a couple days ago he shot me over a new track titled ‘Clued Up’, he instructed me to listen to it loudly and with good reason too. The production on this is crazy, kudos to Shaun Savage. I like what Nate is doing here, I think this sounds noticeably different to much of what is out there at the moment, on these shores at least.
I posted this track back in January, when I first discovered Long Arm and his incredible debut album The Branches – but didn’t realise it had a video. Nothing actually happens in this and isn’t very interesting – but I needed another excuse to post this song up.
‘When Children Sleep’ is as captivating, as it is addictive. The rolling drum pattern, the softened chords, the haunting vocal sample – it’s all so magnificently crafted. The same can be said for the album as whole, which you can listen to (in full) and purchase via the bandcamp player below…
I really need to see James Blake live soon, the performances I’ve seen so far have been really compelling. His songs really seem to come alive on stage and his vocals sound really strong too.
Check out his performance of ‘Limit To Your Love’ on Belgian talk show ‘De Laatste Show’.
J*DaVey were among one of the acts back in 2008 that I had really high hopes for. They were for me (and I know for my PBB co-pilot too) one of the most exciting bands to emerge amidst the ‘soultronica’ movement.
However, like many of those in mind – they didn’t really deliver anything concrete. The mixtapes, EP’s and odd singles etc were great, but I was (and still am) waiting for that full album. But, it’s all good – I understand that these things take time.
With that said, I’m happy to post their new FreEP entitled Evil Christian Cop: The Great Mistapes – which features their fantastic cover of Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ (one of the bravest and best covers I’ve heard in a long time). I’m just playing this for the first time myself, I’m 3 songs in and I can confirm my love for J*DaVey remains in tact. I love their energy and steeze in general. Track number 2, ‘Quicksand’, is giving me everything right now – sweet Jesus. Anthemic!
DaVey’s voice is mad sexy. I love her.

Apollo Brown’s new instrumental album Clouds drops on March 1st via Mello Music Group but is available to purchase exclusive via iTunes today. The album, filled with textured instrumentation and warm tones has been on repeat since I was first sent it a couple days ago.
We posted the first leak, ‘Time Passed Autumn’, last week and now in celebration of the iTunes pre-release, Brown is giving away another free song from the LP called ‘Tao Te Ching’. Have a listen to the smooth expressions here, and just wait for that brass section to come in. Pure vibes. This isn’t the best song on the album either.
Last week we were invited to and attended Lupe Fiasco’s London album playback session, unfortunately because it was held in a club (never the best idea) and drinks were flowing freely (bittersweet) I couldn’t actually hear the music over everybody’s talking.
So while I reserver my judgement on the LP as a whole, lets get tucked into this new track called ‘All Black Everything’ which just dropped. As you would expect with any Fiasco track, lyrically this is on point, the beat isn’t the most inspiring though.
Brand newness from Szjerdene; This time the London born singer uses an Savath y Savalas instrumental (‘Folk Song for Cello’) which sees her soulfully angelic vocals harmoniously float above the arrangement. Listen and download below. Enjoy.
We’ve been supporting this young lady for a minute now, last year we filmed her in our ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ – looking forward to hearing more new music.
Szjderene told me that she is currently working on new material with some of PinBoard’s favourite artists. I can’t divulge who just yet, but trust us to keep you well informed.
This hauntingly cold, yet comforting track fits pretty nicely. The errie breaks can potentially leave you feeling a little uneasy, but not for too long though as the subtle whispers bring back that all important bassline. Only problem is, due credit is proving difficult to give as the producer behind this one has remained anonymous, instead favouring to drop tracks with elusive names like this one. Who is this masked bandit already?!
We first introduced you to 74 Miles Away (LuiGi & Eric P (aka MonkeyRobot) and Pierre Anchaert) back in December, and mentioned they had an album due out – that album is available now via Melting Pot Music.
Their new single ‘Finding a Place’ features Carina Andersson and is another beautifully crafted composition originally put together by Pierre Ankaert and remixed by MonkeyRobot for the LP. The arrangement is as warm as it is inviting – when the Rhodes kicks in and those melancholic chords follow – it’s euphoric. Listen and buy it via the bandcamp player below.
One of the main aims for this project was to bring focus back to the beloved Fender Rhodes electric piano, used heavily throughout the recording process – hence the album artwork and that fantastic sound you hear.
I really love what they’ve produced here – looking forward to listening to the album in full.
After the jump you can peep 74 Miles Away performing a live set in the studio…
It’s official, Jamie XX is everywhere. I think I may have to slow down the posting on all things XX after this one for a while. It’s getting a bit crazy now.
Before then though, get your ears around this new jam called ‘Beat For’. Not sure if it belongs to a specific project or not, but it’s al’right still. Nothing life changing here, but something, given the right mind-state, could appease.
