Last Tuesday evening, PinBoard Blog were invited back onto the biggest radio station in the UK again (first time since the ‘epic’ debut at the end of last year, lol).

The O.G. our mother Earth has come to know as Speeakz (don’t watch the government name bait-up) represented for the clan. Strictly modest scholar flex (I see you fam) as he sat down with the true airwave brahmin Nihal, beautiful spitter Mz Bratt (recently signed to Atlantic) and fellow Radio 1 badman DJ Dev to chew the fat over a selection of tracks (including new Jamie Woon ‘Lady Luck’).

A massive look for our sector of the music industry. Three years ago, we were just mere blogs and bloggers… now we’re ever effective and proven legitimate MUSIC OUTLETS. Really proud of our man and how far we’ve come. This one’s for all UK blogs, we rep for our class of music commentators and tastemakers.

Respec’.

Everybody. Your Saturday night, your downward spiral into weekend oblivion… it all starts here.

Caught wind of this Scot chap Taz Buckfaster a couple years back via a couple Hud-Mo remixes of his shit. They’re all young lords of that whole Glasgow ‘turbo-crunk’ school of thought.

This sexy arse banger is off his new EP Numbers. Gunfinger gagging 2 Step Garage riddims with pengest MJ Cole’esque strings plucks (approx. 56 seconds in you will be transported back to ’99 UKG). Speeakz and I are shuckin’ out ‘ard with the big speakers on, top shotta skank. Friends out there in cyberia (cyber land + Siberia, British-weather-jibe coinage, get me), join us.

Shouts to Our Yardie for the heads up, we love you gyal.

LOL at Woon and Blake, modest geezers innit. Guess understating everything is the new cool. Great selection of artists nonetheless as dug by us here. Co-sign! And looking forward to doing great things with a few of these bright hopes too. Watch the rest after the jump…

Last night we attended Drake’s sold out debut London show at Hammersmith Apollo. Performing songs off his debut album Thank Me Later as well as material off his So Far Gone tape, and a select few guest verses – Drizzy proved to any nay-sayers that he is more than just a ‘blog’ rapper. He brought energy, charisma, personality – he brought it all. The songs that he performed played soundtrack to most of our year, so it was very dope hearing and seeing him do what he does so well.

Anyways, we were sitting next to Sumit from the Hip Hop Chronicle and after a well deserved catch up, he got to work filming the gig (the guy is relentless). And in true Sumit style, the footage was sitting in my inbox before I woke up (#grind). Peep some of the highlights from the Drake show up top.

Just found this new Kelly Price jam in my inbox, have a listen. ‘Not My Daddy’ comes off Price’s forthcoming album Kelly and follows the LP’s first (massive) single ‘Tired’ – a song I still listen to on a regs. I’m not 100% feeling this one, it’s a little boring and doesn’t really present anything ‘new’ – thus, no stream. Lol. Hope she brings something harder with the album.

After seeing the dubstep duo twice last year, I heavily recommend trying to catch them on their Spring tour – it’s an experience.

Check the dates, support from Yasmin and Redlight and surely a few surprise Chase and Status features. Tempa T, Maverick Sabre, Liam Bailey, maybe even Cee-Lo Green may make an appearance on a show.

Check the dates after the jump.

Ps: The album ‘No More Idols’ is out 31st January.

Hype.

Tweet tweeted (it had to be done lol) recently that she will definitely be releasing her long due third LP, entitled Love, Tweet this year.  Although she did openly say there is “No date yet…still ironing out the business part of things!” I, for one am still excited.

Tweet has unfortunately never managed to replicate the success of her first single ‘Ooops’ with Missy Elliot, but this is not a reflection on her body of work. Across her two previous albums, there were some misses, but when she hit, she hit well. Her heartfelt expressions off her 2002 debut Southern Hummingbird (‘Best Friend’, ‘Smoking Cigarettes’), as well as tracks from her follow up album It’s Me Again (‘Iceberg’, ‘I’m Done’) have stayed with me more than a decade. Simply beautiful songs.

Word has it, Tweet will also be releasing a mixtape before the album as well.

Whatever form it comes in, I look forward to the next instalment from the Southern Hummingbird.

The BBC’s ‘Sound of 2011′ top 5 has been revealed, with Jessie J taking the top spot – a fantastic look for the London born powerhouse. She beats off stiff competition from the likes of James Blake (2nd), The Vaccines (3rd), Jamie Woon (4th) and Claire Maguire (5th). This is a strong list, a good selection of young talent and a good representation of what I feel the masses will be listening to over the next 365.

I’m going to throw my humble hat to one side for a minute and say that PinBoardBlog.com has been championing four of the five acts in this list for a hot minute now. Not to mention, I’m proud to say we’ve already worked with 2 of them and have plans to work with the other 2 in the coming weeks. I’m personally new to the Vaccines, but I reviewed their track ‘Post Break Up Sex’ on the Radio 1 Review Show with Nihal the other night (more about that in a bit) and liked what I heard – so definitely interested in hearing more from them.

We filmed Jamie Woon for ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ (in association with Red Bull Studios London), and also got Jessie J in there too – expect that greatness next week FYI. PinBoard is about tastemaking and it’s fantastic to see the big boy Beeb team keeping their ears to the ground, respect to them.

And, back to humble. A huge congratulations to all the artists in the top 5 and those who were shortlisted, it’s going to be a great year for music and I really hope the next 12 months brings massive success to them all.

Damn, that didn’t take long? After just 2 days of hearing it Saadiq has already put out a video for his most recent single ‘Radio’, which comes off his new album Rolling Stone dropping in March. Take a look at the visuals shot in Paris.

I can’t stress how much I need Jamie XX’s remix album of Gil Scott-Heron’s I’m New Here, reworked and retitled We’re New Here. The XX member is ambitiously taking on the most recent works of Heron and remixing them into something new. ‘I’ll Take Care of U’ is the latest single off the forthcoming project which drops February 21st.

My laptop battery is about to die. Shambolic that I forgot my charger. But, real quick – check my favourite UK songstress talking about her brand new album and playing snippets of each song which will feature on it.

Update: Ok, so charger found. Oi, which other female artist can show this much personality for 14 minutes without being annoying? Have a think…Not many fam. This is why it’s essential Terri Walker gets the exposure, this time round, she deserves. Not only that but are hearing these songs? Ski Beatz production, laced with Walker’s soulfully epic vocals – SUPPORT THIS WOMAN! Can’t wait for the album (yes, Terri, that’s a hint – send me the LP already!)

Here goes Marsha Ambrosius’ debut solo music video, the track comes off her forthcoming album Late Nights, Early Mornings due out in February. Biggup Marsha for making a music video with a message. I love it when visuals give a song new meaning and love it even more when an artist uses their art as a way to speak to people.

Can’t wait for this album.
