I’m always a little sceptical of people messing experimenting with classic albums/songs, but I’m not entirely mad at what FreshNerd has done here. Taking on Janet’s most iconic album, he continues his 80′s beat tape series by chopping into Control. I can’t say I’m a fan of everything on here, but I am definitely enjoying parts.

Press play and have a listen to what he’s done, if you like – download it for free…

Another new Jose James track? Who’s complaining? No word on whether this (or the other one for that matter) will end up on James’ new album – either way, this is so nice. Exactly the vibe I’m on right now too, added bonus. Download you some niceness…

My co-pilot Shan introduced me to this track a couple nights back, he was supposed to post it up but the busy workload didn’t permit so here I am, humbly stepping in for him.

Mara, lead singer of New Zealand based band Electric Wire Hustle (peep our ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ with them here) has released a solo record called ‘Run (Away From the Valley of Fear)’ and it’s rather good. In fact, it’s better than good – it’s bloody great. Press play and allow the thumping, airy beat steep into your conscious, a little bassline hypnosis – then, await Mara’s haunting vocals to flow though & drop like a mutha******- tell me this isn’t soul stirring?

7 days and counting until Adele relinquishes the 21 album. I can’t tell you any more how excited I am. Even more so, after hearing this epic, orchestral piano tangled track. Produced by Fraser T Smith and catchy as ever, this could be a 2nd single on the cards.

Ok, something a bit different for you this time. Last Wednesday, the PinBoard crew alongside old friends, enjoyed the final show of the Foreign Exchange’s ‘Authenticity’ European tour and it was nothing but magical on the night. With Sy Smith, AB and that guy Zo! in tow, it could not have been anything less and was worth the five year wait. Here’s a lil’ video put together and presented by Spectrum LDN and Soul Beautiful – shout out to Rah and team for the excellent night.

Watch and enjoy some of those special moments from the night.

Maverick Sabre along with other Pinboard favourites have been tipped as some of 2011 brightest upcoming artists. Maverick Sabre has been quietly making his way from Ireland gigging, to featuring on tracks with Professor Green and recently Chase and Status. London born by birth, Maverick bought his gritty, soulful, nu reggae influenced sound to the Maida Vale studios recently where he was tipped by MistaJam  as one of ‘The Next Big Things’.

Recently signed to Mercury Records and working on his new album, we will keep you posted on this Maverick. For now watch the video up top and download his recent mixtape ‘The Travelling Man’ here.

Ahu’s ‘To:Love’ was one of my favourite tracks of last year. Now given a 2011 refix by man like tightface….big big tune

Aaliyah would have been 32 years old today, it’s a true testament to her legacy that her music is as loved, respected and honoured today as it was while she was here. A true superstar, one that left us too soon and one that we will never forget.

Lets pay respect by pressing play on possibly one of the hardest songs of her career and one that most have either forgotten or looked over. Timbaland, Missy & Aaliyah = the greatest team.

Rest in Peace Babygirl.

If it’s one thing James Blake is good at, it’s surprising me. After dropping a number of (incredible) instrumental EP’s, the last thing I expected was him to be singing on ‘Limit To Your Love’. Then, once again, I was left a little bewildered upon hearing the rest of his debut album. It’s all a little left. And I love left, but sometimes when it’s off the page – I need to reserve judgement for a minute.

Having said that, this is one of my favourite songs off the LP and so I enjoyed watching him perform it live. At some point I’m sure one of the crew will be analysing this album in depth, for now though – have a butchers and see what you think.

James Blake – you badman, still.

4.34am, I should be somewhere between here and the land of nod, but I’m posting this funky little number instead, eh – sleep can wait. ‘Wake Ups’ is a new track from San Francisco based producer Salva, it’s taken off his new album Complex Housing due out in February. A likkle bit of Electro-Funk is never a bad thing, right? Yes please…

Best watched in 720p (HD) providing higher quality audio.

Here’s the second episode in our exclusive ‘Rehearsal Rooms’ series, presented by PinBoardBlog.com and filmed by our production house PinBoardFilm in collaboration with the world famous Red Bull Studios London.

Shot in Red Bull’s recording studio, these are intimate sessions with some of the most exciting artists and bands we champion.

Last month we brought you our first episode featuring the incredibly talented singer/songwriter Jamie Woon performing his haunting, beautiful single ‘Night Air’. Last week he went on to secure fourth place in the BBC Sound of 2011 (a massive look) and now this month we’ve the lady at number one in that list: the vocal powerhouse that is Jessie J giving a definitive acoustic performance of her biggest single to date.

Filmed before Christmas and caught live in one take, she gave us a glimpse of the magic windpipes with a dollop of attitude before her biggest gig at London’s XOYO, where later that evening she blew the remaining socks off industry wigs. She’s gone on top both the aforementioned list and win Critics Choice Award at Brit Awards 2011 so she’s at the top of her game and wholly ascending right now (we’ve been praising her register since the humble YouTube era, lol).

Jessie J’s debut album Who You Are is out this year whilst her second single drops in March. For now, enjoy this stripped down, swagged out rendition of her massive number ‘Do It Like A Dude’.

#TimbalandThursdays has officially started. Timbo just released this brand new track featuring his number 1 collaborator Missy Elliott. Can’t say I’m very inspired by this, the beat is pretty standard and Missy’s flow & lyrics are rather uninspired. Unless Timbo comes back with some next alien type sh*t (see: 1996-2006 discography), I will continue listening to his classic material. He remains my favourite producer though (well, top 3 at least).

P.s It’s amazing how in 1996 he sounded more 2011 than he does in 2011.
