Madlib & Kareem Riggins aka Supreme Team let go a brand new track called ‘Interview #4080′ which comes off Madlib Medicine Show #11: Low Budget High Fi Music. This is really quite nice…
I always want to expose myself, and you in turn, to new music…
I’m a huge fan of Portishead, so naturally was very much interested in hearing the material Geoff Barrow was producing for singer Anika and his band Beak (Geoff Barrow, Billy Fuller and Matt Williams). Together the four of them have produced Anika’s self-titled debut album blending a mix of dub, punk, rock and funk. The LP was recorded live in just twelve days.
‘I Go to Sleep’ is a dark and moody ballad, featuring heavyhearted instrumentation which some will love and others simply will not. I’m sitting on the fence with this one, something about it is rather captivating and interesting. But then, something in there is a little off. I’m not entirely sold on just yet. I have a feeling this may be a grower. However, Anika’s album (out now) is definitely something I will be checking out.
Mansions on the Moon remix N*E*R*D’s ‘Hypnotize U’, taken off the bands latest album Nothing, have a listen to their reworking below. It’s not bad, but I can’t say I’m lovin’ it too tough. #nostream
Here is a new track from the one they call the Funk Butcher. When he not making these bad-bwoy re-interpretations of late 80′s Chicago House classics he is teaming up with Zed Bias and they have a collaborative effort coming out on Swamp 81 soon apparently. That is something worth looking forward to in the new year. But for now…enjoy his twist on this classic.
Two brand new remixes from Kidkanveil for your listening pleasure…
The first takes on Cherry Chan & Kiat’s ‘Samurai Waltz’ and features some next murderous drum pattern. Mr Kanevil and I share a mutual love for Timbaland, so understandably I’m all over this. Feel like I’m going to battle with this one. Tom Cruise who? This is out now via qilinmusic.com
The second remix is of Belleruche’s ‘Backyard’ and features a welcomed Kidkanevil-kick and erm, are those bird noises I hear? Are they tweeting? Am I going mad? This is sounding real nice right now. Monday evening flex. Out now via tru-thoughts.co.uk
One for the dairies. James Blake will be playing his DEBUT SHOW at Plan B in Bixton on January 14th, supported by DJ’s Pariah & The Chain. Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but will be soon enough – I will let you know when they are. So yea, heads up fam. Be there.
We heard the snippet, now it’s time to listen to the full collaboration between Michael Jackson and (grits teeth) 50 Cent – which comes off the upcoming Michael album.
This is definitely the most ‘promising’ song I’ve heard of all the leaks so far. Am I jumping around the room with excitement? Hardly. But yea, this is definitely much better than the rest. Fiddy’s verse isn’t half bad either.
VTech & Fresh Selects (shouts to Kenny!) come with the exclusive debut of Blu’s brand new song from his highly anticipated album NoYork! at Portland’s premier party – The Fix. The track, originally produced by Exile was performed with the full NoYork! live band – peep the goodness up top.
The BBC have just announced their top 15 ‘Sound of 2011′ nominees. The list aims to highlight the most promising new music for the year ahead. In January the top 5 and the ‘Sound of 2011′ winner will be revealed. Peep the list of artists in the top 15 after the jump…
Good to see a few PinBoard favourites on there – biggup Jamie Woon, Jessie J & James Blake and congrats to everyone else who made the list too. Good to see Wretch 32 on there too.
I still play DTMD’s The Basics EP like it dropped yesterday, these guys are on to something here and are providing a much needed trip down soulful-Hip Hop street. Their forthcoming album Makin’ Dollars is on it’s way but for now you can listen & download the single package which includes an acapella, an instrumental and another track called ‘Struggle is Real’ for just $1 below via their bandcamp player. Good stuff.
If you want to know exactly what I’m listening to on this (cold & foggy) morning, this is it. Nalden & Anthony Valadez team up for this rather sexy, soulful mix of songs that are quite literally giving me life this AM. We got Grooveman Spot, Quadron, Miguel, Full Crate, Massive Attack (!!), Olivier Day Soul and many more. Just the perfect soundtrack to get the blood flowing, mind thinking and body shaking this Monday.
My love for Georgia Anne Muldrow runs so deep, the music she creates does something to me, for real. ‘Never In Vain’ is taken off her album Early which is available to purchase now. Her production, her vocals, her words – tick. tick. tick.
