Before the Beeb – we were championing this guy (along with the homie Amelia over at PMOI). You guys know this. So, it’s no surprise we’re excited about seeing his career soar in the way it is beginning to, just trust me when I say 2011 is going to be his year. As a Christmas treat, he’s letting loose a non-album track called ‘Blue Truth’, another dark, sexy number which reflects what Woon does best. His vocals, his melodies – this guy can do no wrong in my eyes or ears. You hear that instrumentation? Yea, don’t mug yourself by letting Jamie’s music pass you by. Let us be your vessel.
This little lady is fast becoming my favourite live performer on London’s Soul circuit. The singer songwriter from West London is currently causing quite a stir! The business and Law graduate has been focusing on Music for quite sometime now having had the opportunities to perform with the likes of Raphael Saadiq, Kano, Estelle, Faith Evans, touring with Al Green and Gabrielle and working with well respected producers Bugz In The Attic and 4Hero has a wealth of experience and is now beginning to show everyone what she is all about.
Her EP Introduction To Miss Charles features production from UK Favourites Truth Movement and Colin Emmanuel aka “Black Einstein” and is a slice of quality RnB Soul with a distinct UK flavouring over it. Highlights include “Your My Boy”, “My Journey” and the standout single “You Are The One” checkout the excellent video.
Dopeness indeed but its Live where my girl is really killing it. Backed by a full band she has been rocking crowds with her sublime vocals and authentic Soul sound. The band are ridiculous with some mean grooves, runs and stabs and just simply tight as HELL! Whilst Nadine’s voice floats over the music commanding you’re attention. Here’s a recent clip of her performing at Aesthetic Sounds supporting Glen Lewis.
Love it! She is doing what a lot of UK artists are failing to bringing that quality on all levels. Good recordings, good video and good live set you can’t go wrong. She’ll be supporting Marsha Ambrosius @ Dingwalls Camden on Dec 27 get tickets here and get hold of her EP at Bandcamp below. I suggest you get to know about Nadine Charles.

Now this is what you call a Christmas song! We know that Mar is DAT GUY!!! and his variation of Lil Waynes ‘Single’ is one of my tracks of the year. This was in my inbox on Thursday but life gets in the way of getting ish out..,ya dig. Better late than never…enjoy and have a good Christmas folks.
Brand newness from Brainfeeder’s very own Tokimonsta – my ears really like this one. Thumping beats, funky baselines, off key vocal samples, if you got big speakers of bad-man headphones, play this into your dome. You’ll do good with it.
This dropped earlier, the crew have been out filming all day (see: pinboardfilm) so only just getting round to hearing it. Rising star Ed Sheeran joins forces with the one and only Wiley for a new single entitled ‘You’. We’re big supporters of Ed Sheeran’s, we’ve already worked with him on Rehearsal Rooms and so are naturally are excited about seeing him go from strength to strength. This track is real nice, not what I was expecting – I was expecting more of a Wiley influence, but respect that this song remains very much an Ed Sheeran song. Great look. Excited to hear more.
Well hello there! A cheeky bit of ambient disco-pop… it comes in the form of Congratulation-cut ‘Siberian Breaks’. Ed Banger-representatives So Me, Breakbot and Busy P turn in their very own rendition of the song. Lubbly Jubbly. Available to purchase here
Silky, swagged out new number from our Detroit homeboy Illa J. A mix of floating synths, eager bass and mischievous percussion courtesy of Young RJ. Topical stuff in the form of fidelity matters. Vibe with it and remember to behave yourselves folks.
Most furious flurry of bars I’ve heard Weezy emit in a minute.
I feel like Cory Gunz has been marinating for years and now he’s about to turn the Earth and all it’s inhabitants into a BAR-becue… (pardon the poor pun)…
Bangladesh on the Milli’esque regurgitation- but hey, this bass could blow the arse off a badger I can’t front. It’s pumping.
Wild out to this reasonable quality radio rip… I don’t think our morning train ride power-ups can wait.
As Georgia Ann Muldrow readies the release of her latest album VWETO (meaning ‘gravity’ in Swahili) exclusively on iTunes today, she drops the first single ‘fOnkRocker’ for free for all to taste. I don’t need to listen to this to know that it will be an experience, Muldrow is so full of musical intrigue, there’s always something new to hear or discover. Have a listen and download below…
As ever Blu drops a new video seemingly out of thin air, this time it’s for a new track he did with Exile. Unsure whether this is coming off his NoYork! album or whether it signifies the beginning of another Blu & Exile record – which would be fantastic. To be fair – either scenario would be great, new Blu is never a bad thing.
SoulUK and I (along with a few others) spend a lot of time privately sharing music. It’s one of my favourite things about running this site, the music-loving micro community we have found(ed) ourselves in. He told me to check out 74 Miles Away which he blogged about over at his new e-home SoulBounce. It took me a couple days but I finally got round to it and well, the fact that you’re reading this post everything, really…
LuiGi & Eric P (aka MonkeyRobot) and Pierre Anchaert came up with an idea to record a split LP based on Pierre’s own compositions. One of the main concepts behind the project was to put the dearly loved Fender Rhodes electric piano back in the spotlight once again.
The A-side of the record contains four Jazz tracks composed by Pierre Anchaert and performed by his electric trio. The B-side consists of the same four tracks, but heavily reworked by MonkeyRobot (formerly known as Infinitskills) in collaboration with some of the best contemporary singers around.
Listen to their first single(s) below – the first is Pierre’s original composition ‘August City Blues’ and the second is the MonkeyRobot reworked version entitled ‘Same Dream Again’ featuring London based singer Ahu and Miles Bonny.
I am IN LOVE with these song. Both of them. But I have to say the MonkeyRobot version kills me. When it drops, my heart flutters. Those claps? Yes please. Ahu’s vocals are like butter. Milles Bonny does the damn thing too.

74 Miles Away Feat Ahu & Miles Bonny – ‘Same Dream Again’
Their full album will be released in February 2011. You can watch a trailer for the LP here. Cannot wait.
P.s ’74 Miles Away’ is more of a concept then a collective name for these guys. But to make things simpler, I’m calling them 74 Miles Away.
Mayer Hawthorne lets loose a early Christmas present…
“All the best Christmas songs were written by Jews, and Chanukah songs suck. This is my favorite Christmas tune, sung over the Vince Guaraldi instrumental.” – Mayer Hawthorne.
