We’re proud to announce the first in our series of exclusive collaborations with the world famous Red Bull Studios London; together we’ll bring you brand new episodes of ‘Rehearsal Rooms’, an original series presented by PinBoardBlog.com and filmed by our production house PinBoard Film.

Shot in Red Bull’s London recording studio, these will be intimate sessions with some of the most exciting artists and bands we champion.

Our first joint-episode features the incredibly talented singer/songwriter Jamie Woon performing his haunting, beautiful new single ‘Night Air’. Without question one of the most invigorating artists to emerge out of the UK, his distinct musical and lyrical style sets him apart from all his contemporaries. Even more proud are we to be creating a visual to accompany one of our favourite songs of the year.

2011 seems set to be Woon’s time.

Rapper T.I. has released a statement via his website from prison where is serving an 11-months for violating his probation order. In the statement (which you can read in full after the jump) the rapper says “I’m certainly sick and mother f*cking tired of going to jail”. He also describes his current stint as “a pain I have never felt before” and he is unsure “what effect this will have on my life moving forward”.

The good folks over at SoulBounce have put me on to Dutch singer Ntjam Rosie, and I’m thankful. Her gorgeous mix of soul and jazz makes for easy listening, it doesn’t hurt that her voice is just as beauitful. ‘In Need’ is off her new album Elli, which I’m about to check out after this. Lovin’ this here song and lovin’ the video too.

…Something very exciting is happening over the Neverlands.

This year I have been hunting (obsessively) for new (exciting) Soul music. At some point earlier this year I realised I had become way too confortable with the Erykah Badu’s, D’Angelo’s, Jill Scott’s etc in my music collection. I needed something new. But not just ‘new’, something exciting, something contemporary and fresh. So I searched.

The beauty of the internet is when you search, you find. I have been put on to so many brilliant soul artists, musicians and producers over the past 12 months – I feel spoilt. Most of what I have found has been featured on PinBoard (naturally) at some point, but as I ‘found’, I became more obsessed with finding more…

Long story short – I came across B.Lewis’ newest project – a free 7 track LP entitled La Semaine. A Cali native, producer B.Lewis infuses a blend of Soulful sounds, experimental Hip Hop beats, synth chords and a nicely selected array of samples and creates something pretty tasty.

The track ‘First of You’ features one of my favourite male vocalists around at the moment – Mar (who I found this through) and is probably my favourite track off the LP. But Lewis’ use of India.Arie’s ‘Strength Courage & Wisdom’ on the albums second track entitled ‘When the Wise Men Fall’ is a close contender.

From the first track (or ‘day’) to the last though, the songs on this album demonstrate exactly what I’ve been craving – fresh, forward thinking Soul music which sounds like it belongs in 2010. Oh, and it also has dope artwork too – always important.

I love the greats, I love the traditional, but I also love (and need) the new.

You can listen and download (for free) B.Lewis’ La Semaine via the bandcamp player below. Have a listen and let me know what you think.

The homie Keelay just shot over the new video for his band Gillade. You will have seen these guys on PinBoard a good few times over the past year or so – I’m a big fan of their vibe and what they do. Lovin’ this track and it’s feel good video too…!

VTech and Plug Research Music keep the goods coming. Possibly one of my favourite labels this year interms of content stream. This time they offer up Exile’s remix of Bilal’s ‘Think It Over’ (originally produced by 88-Keys), which comes off his sensational album Airtight’s Revenge. Exile is a great producer, and I always enjoy his remixes – not sure I love this one though. But then, this isn’t my favourite track on Bilal’s album so maybe that’s why. Either way though, it’s nice and still good to have in the ol’ archive.

The homie Luke shot over his latest video featuring up and coming singer/songwriter Tinashé performing a song called ‘Pieces of Paper’, which is taken off his forthcoming album Saved.

Remaking ‘Pow’ was never going to be easy. It’s a classic on these shores. But Lethal Bizzle took on the challenge and enlisted the help of some of the biggest and hottest emcees of the day to help him. We got Wiley, JME, Ghetts, Chipmunk, Kano, 2 Face and P Money – each one do their damn thing. Can’t be denied.

Is it as good as the orginal? Hmm, I don’t know. It’s pretty hard, still.

A leftover track from Recovery? A new track off Detox? Who the heck knows – just know it’s a previously unheard track from Eminem featuring Dre which is rumoured to have been produced by Alex Da Kid (brap!).

If Christina Aguilera came with something this on her last album maybe she wouldn’t be staring down the barrel of a flop. This is by far the best song I’ve ever heard, but her vocals alone make it great. Can’t forget how much of a great singer this lady is. ‘Bound To You’ comes off the soundtrack to Christina Aguilera’s new movie, also starring Cher *pause* Burlesque.

Arcade Fire’s newest album The Suburbs is without doubt one of my favourite albums of 2010. It’s a great body of work and is something I have been listening to non-stop since it was released. The band performed two tracks from said album last night on Later with Jools Holland – the first being ‘Month of May’ (up top) and the second ‘Ready to Start’ (after the jump). Check them out and if you haven’t already, definitely peep The Suburbs.
