This track was sent to me a couple weeks ago but got buried under a disturbing amount of emails. Hate it when that happens. But through a series of cool incidents, it was brought to my attention once again and decided to quickly post it up this morning before the week fries my brain once more.

‘Modern Day Romance’ is the debut single from London’s very own, Jagga. Packed with a unique sounding voice and great ear for baselines and aerial sounds, this guy is bringing something rather nice to the table. Having already written for Magnectic Man, worked with Zinc and Starsmith and toured with Rusko – you best believe you’ll be hearing more about him from now.

‘Modern Day Romance’ is best served through dangerously good speakers/headphones. That pounding baseline and those claps twisted behind Jagga’s anomalous vocal delivery need be appreciated like any true audiophile. This is some next beathead-indie-rock hybrid. I like really quite it. There’s also a nice Photek remix of ‘Modern Day Romance’ on Jagga’s soundcloud player, peep that here.

The single comes with a b-side called ‘Keep on the Light’ – this tune is massive. Dub beats, reggae influences – Jagga’s vocals sound real, real nice here. His laid back melody zones you out (*ahem*), the base, the hi-hats – I may just prefer this to ‘Modern Day Romance’, I haven’t fully decided yet.

Keep your ears locked on Jagga. Connect with him on twitter. Tell him we sent you.

Bursting onto the scene in the dying days of 2010, Jagga made a huge impact across the musical board with the release of his debut single Modern Day Romance at the beginning of December. Combining forward-thinking production with elements of dubstep, pop, electro and a sprinkle of dancehall swagger, the Hackney-based artist looks set to shake things up and turn even more heads in the new year, but in the meantime he's turned his attention to I Like Music Urban Pages.
