I have been playing this tune non-stop, I can’t get enough of it. So great to see/hear El Debarge again. Peep the official video for his new single up top. Grab the song from the link below…

I didn’t know if I was going to post this up or not, nothing against Colin Munroe, but I’m really not feelin’ this cover. Completely understand it’s his own interpretation and actually, I’m sure many will like it – but for me, I just can’t get into it I’m afraid. But I really admire Munroe for taking the risk and doing this (and no, I’m not being condescending, I really mean it), covering Prince takes a certain amount of guts.

One of my favourite emcee’s, Pharoahe Monch, is readying the release of his new album W.A.R (We Are Renegades) which drops via Duck Down Records on October 26th. The LP will see collaborations with Styles P,  Jill Scott, Phonte, Royce Da 5’9, Jean Grae and more. The tracklist for the album has just been revealed via hhdx which can you peep below. After hearing the new single ‘Shine’, I’ve been really looking forward to this album – this dude is a beast and still disturbingly underrated.

1. Intro – Skit (feat. Idris Elba)
2. Evolve
3. W.A.R. (feat. Vernon Reid)
4. Clap
5. The Hitman
6. Black Hand Side (feat. Styles P & Phonte (of Little Brother))
7. Let My People Go
8. Shine (feat. Mela Machinko)
9. Haile Selassie Karate (feat. Denaun Porter)
10. Assassins (feat. Jean Grae & Royce Da 5’9”)
11. Illusions
12. Mama’s Boy
13. Still Standing (feat. Jill Scott)

New Coultrain? Aiiight…

Following his debut EP The Adventures of Seymour Liberty, Coultrain is back with a brand new (free) project, released on Friday the 13th, called GodMustBeABoogieMan. Split into 3 ‘movements’ (APrince’sDeparture, RoofTopXperience & TheReturnOfACharlatan) – this is “the story of The Sabbatical”. It’s funky and soulful, I’m liking this.  Tracklist after the jump.

This one is for the Soul lovers out there.

Outasight just dropped his brand new (free) album in association with LRG, featuring appearences from Cook Classics, Sa-Ra, 6th Sense and more. I’m about to download this myself, so will hold off writing anything too descriptive til’ then. But if this is anything like his last project – pure fiyah. Tracklist after the jump…

Erykah Badu has paid a $500 fine for getting naked in public while shooting her ‘Window Seat’ video in Dallas, and will serve 6 months probation for the offence. The Grammy award winner was “charged with disorderly conduct” after a number of witnesses complained to the authorities.

…Yea, I know

Brand spanking new Bilal for your listening pleasure. This is his first official single off his new (much needed) album Airtight’s Revenge. A sound somewhat different than what we’ve maybe heard from him before – but I love this. Sounds like something that could have dropped in the 70′s, right? The texture of his voice is still like nothing I’ve ever heard. Airtight’s Revenge is going to f*ck you up on September 14th, get ready. Pre-order the LP here.

Haha this is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a minute. Rhymesayers strike again! Peep evidence spitting word, for word, while riding fuck off roller-coaster. Nothing but respect for that. Helps that the tune is hard too, of course. Once again, brought to you by our Rhymesayer’s dealer – Abjekt.

DTMD’s most recent EP The Basic’s hasn’t left my iPhone since I first posted/downloaded it back in February. This is rare for me because my iPhone catalogue gets switched up every month. These guys stay there. Quite possibly one of my favourite Hip Hop groups on the come up at the moment, these 19 year olds (!!!!) continue to impress me.

‘A Loan for the Lonely’ comes off their upcoming Makin’ Dollas album, need that in my life. Until’ then, press play on this – you’ll love it. The video is ill too. Stay on it and if you haven’t already – GET THEIR EP, it’s free!

Five months ago we lost one of the illest, most talented producers we had – Nujabes. Many heralded him as the ‘Japanese Dilla’, a fitting title given the soulful nature of his hard knocking boom clap beats. As with most great musical messiahs, who leave us way too soon, their music allows for their memory to breathe and grow, Nujabes is no exception.

‘Homeward Journey’ is a new track taken off an upcoming new release which fans can expect to drop end of this year/beginning of next. The fittingly titled song features Nujabes’ tender production qualities, led by a melodic and heart breaking piano, it incorporates the elements I love of what this man was able to do. Beautiful.

Rest in power homie.

Aloe Blacc is the one. His voice is next level, the soul this man oozes is ridiculous. Peep him performing ‘Politician’ live  for DJ Hyphen and J. Moore in Seattle. The new album, Good Times, can’t come sooner – it’s officially released via Stones Throw on September 28th.

And don’t forget Aloe Blacc is coming to LDN Town, more info here.

D-Nice presents the very first episode of ‘Soul Survivors’ featuring Soul man Bilal, in it he speaks about his childhood, growing up in a big family, the sound he has created and what that involves, the new album and a whole other cool ish.

Great interview/feature. Look forward to seeing more.

Stalley is on some next level right now, one of the most exciting emcee’s on the come up (for me, at least). This video is beautifully shot and is in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

…Can’t believe it’s been five years.
