Not the most insightful interview, but still – it’s great to hear from this dude again.

The Urban Daily exclusively interviewed D’Angelo recently, marking his first interview in 9 years. It was a phone interview, so they don’t know what he’s looking like at the moment (lol). His last album, VooDoo dropped over 10 years ago (damn, where has the time gone?) but finally, he’s on the way back. He doesn’t talk about anything in too much detail but discusses his past influences, his current influences (or lack thereof?) and how his complete focus is on the new album. Most interestingly is what he says at the end of the interview when asked what he wants people (aka his fans) to know, to which he replies:

I just want them to know that I’m coming. That’s all.  I’m in the kitchen and I’m cooking up something real nice.

James Pants is back with a new 6 track EP entitled New Tropical – custom-made for the summer. The EP’s first single, ‘Driftwood’ blends Electro, Dance and…Bashment and is pretty immense. An aural injection of mix-mash sounds and genre clashes, ‘Driftwood’ need be played through big ass speakers or dope headphones. Summer ravement material. N’joy. The new EP is out now via Stones Throw.

I know we’re all sick of this track, but everytime I hear it I can’t help but sing along. Classic. Peep Eminem at the end of the video. Peep Hov performing ‘Bring It On’ after the jump…

I ACTUALLY have no words. Skepta, lol, brother, this is pure jokes. The dude samples a Turkish pop song and does his own UK thing to it. Haha. Crazy funny, his accent, when ‘singing’ Turkish – bang on. LOL! Biggup all the Turks in the place still haha.

Oh, I cannot wait for Aloe Blacc’s new album. Been a fan of this guy since his debut album in 06′, most know him from his ‘I Need a Dollar’ track which was used as the theme song for “How To Make It In America”. Blacc & Truth+Soul take on the Velvet Underground’s classic ‘Femme Fetale’ for the second single off his new album Good Times. Listen and download the track below – it’s also available on 7-inch via Stones Throw.

Album sales don’t bother me in the slightest, I actually couldn’t be less interested. BUT a lot of emphasis was placed on Drake’s first week sales – and even I got sucked in a little. He mentioned in an interview he wanted to sell 500,000 copies in week 1. Well, he fell just short of that selling 462,989 (U.S) – which lands him directly at the top spot of the Billboard charts and is one of the highest selling debuts of this year. Definitely not a bad look.

I’d be lying if I didn’t think that number (although remarkable) would be a bit higher. But I guess, regardless of the hype, or the energy behind Drake or any artist these days, a large portion of folks just aren’t motivated to buy records. But nonetheless, an amazing first week of sales.

I personally haven’t stopped listening to Thank Me Later – it’s a brilliant album. A lot of mix reviews out there, but I can’t get enough of it. #nohype.

“The whole premise of How I Got Over is basically … a coming-of-age record,” ?uestlove told MTV News last week of their latest effort, which came out Tuesday (June 22). The Roots drummer added that the band wanted to switch things up and touch on some thought-provoking themes, a practice he said is more typical of rock than hip-hop. “There hasn’t been a real precedent of anyone being at the crossroads [in hip-hop]. I hear [it] a lot in rock records … where it’s sort of like, ‘I’m at a point in my life where I don’t know what to do and things are happening around me.’ ” – MTV

Can’t tell you how much I’m loving The Roots’ new album. How I Got Over is out now. 2010 = the year of great music.

What Leona Lewis may lack in personality (sorry), she more than makes up for in sheer talent. The video above sees a 13 year old Lewis singing the the theme song from Titanic, ‘My Heart Will Go On’, performed by Celine Dion. For a 13 year old to be able to sing a Celine Dion song, like that, really is quite special. And while musically I’m not a fan of this ladies, her voice is pretty much better than any other female singer around at the moment.
