The other night I was trawling through the TV channels and saw ‘Amy Winehouse Live’ was on, not sure what country she was in (somewhere in Europe I believe) and it was recorded just after she dropped “Back to Black”. I watched it for a couple minutes and then realised, I actually feel on edge watching her live. It’s not comfortable viewing at all. Despite this being one of her ‘better’ performances, she was still clearly drunk (and drinking in between songs), it was still unpleasurable to watch.
Anyways, this got me thinking about the girl who built her buzz around Camden back in the late 90′s, early 00′s. The girl that had Soul & Jazz lovers crazy excited. Not only because her voice was so powerful and her lyrics were so raw, but also because she was a real cool North London girl. She was full of personality, she was no-nonsense, but at the same time, very likeable. It’s obvious that girl has been lost amidst the drugs and alcohol, but sometimes it’s good to go back and listen to that girl sing.
‘Stronger Than Me’ is probably my favourite Winehouse track and this is my favourite performance of it. Need this woman to come back clean and strong.
Stringer BellLutherIdris Elba King Driis drops a video for his 9th Wonder produced track. I really find it hard to separate actor from artist, not really feeling this one I’m afraid.
Peep a preview of Kelly Rowland’s upcoming video for ‘Commander’. Kelly looks beautiful, but what the f*ck is David Gutta doing? Those are some serious ‘moves’.
Dwele’s new video for ‘W.orld Commercial’, off his forthcoming LP “W.ants W.orld. W.omen” out June 29th. Glad to see him switching up a bit, I’m a huge fan of his but can’t be denied, sometimes his material does sound a little samey. But this seems real exciting.
Posting this out of sheer outrage! The Dream covers the Aaliyah CLASSIC ‘One In a Million’ – auto-tone and all. If this isn’t sacrilege, I don’t know what is. Please, take to the comment section and vent your anger – or your admiration if the case may be.
The fact that I am not a fan of this guy may be a contributing factor to my dislike of this song. Eh.
‘Overload’ is a new track from American Idol alumni Fantasia, it’s unclear whether or not this will appear on her new album. Despite Fantasia doing her thing vocally (especially towards the end), and the message of the song being quite strong – I’m not feelin’ this one unfortunately.

Queen Latifah seems like the coolest woman to me. She was so fly back in the day and remains so today. Massively talented. I only wish she would drop a (good) Hip Hop record.

This tune is massive, I wasn’t too sure in the beginning when I first heard/posted it because it sounded a lot like “Pass Out” – but on review, it’s big!
I know you should always give music a chance before you judge it, but I’m struggling. This is not a good look, at all., but as promised C-Beezy and Tgya drop their ‘much hyped’ mixtape today. I’m definitely confused as to why Chris Brown felt this was necessarily, especially after giving that desperate “I can’t be just a mixtape artist”. And I’m not hating here, as I’ve said many times before, I think, as an artist, Brown is way better than this. Anyways, if this is your type of thing or if you’re just curious as to what it sounds like (can’t lie, I am a little) – then download and ‘enjoy’.
‘Ever Fallen In Love’ is the bands lead single off their currently untitled forthcoming album. Liking this song a lot, I love what these guys bring to the table – pop, soul, electro – whatever you want to call it, it works. The way the track speeds up towards the end is dope. And I like it’s video too, simple yet effective. Big fan of their last album “Wild Young Hearts”, can’t wait for their new offering.
Georgia Anne Muldrow will be using the alias Jyoti, a word which in Sanscrit means “light” for all her forthcoming jazz inspired projects. The name was given to her by Alice Coltrane, a long time friend of her family’s. The first project under her new name will be “Ocotea”, which was largely influenced by the music of Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix to name a few. This album will be released on June 15th and already has a lot of people excited – myself included.
Georgia Ann Muldrow is one of a kind, I can honestly say there isn’t another artist like her and so for her to have been so inspired to produce this type of nu-jazz project, under a new name is something that really interests me. This was further heightened when I previewed the album via Amazon. It sounds phenomenal. Definitely recommend you check it out. You can also listen to a full track via Giant Step.
Ne-Yo has had so many tracks leak on the Internet – I have no idea whether they are scraps, unreleased tracks, demos for other artists or what – either way, ‘Turn It Into Love’ is the latest to leak. The track has a Kelly Rowland tag on it, so I wonder if this is something he wrote for her – in a recent interview, Rowland mentioned Ne-Yo had penned a couple tracks for her new LP. Don’t know either way, It’s a cool track though – it’s pretty pop – but I’m a fan of this dudes voice/songs. Nothing life changing generally though.
