‘Papermill’ is part of the ‘Aduld Swim Singles Program’(“8 free tracks, 8 straight weeks”) – and is the first new material we’ve heard from Madlib and DOOM for a hot minute (yes, we’re all waiting for the new album). It’s not a very long track, but it’s pretty dope regardless – enjoy.
The other night, icon Janet Jackson, along side Tyler Perry (and some comedian guy) appeared on the Graham Norton Show. Janet, looking 20 years younger, was there to promote her new movie ‘Why Did I Get Married Too’, with the films director.
The show didn’t have a lot of substance (as you would imagine), but was fun to watch – to be honest, staring at Janet Jackson for an hour is never difficult – especially when she’s looking that good. Can’t believe she’s 40. This new 90′s throwback look is definitely working. Now, all we need is some new music.
Anyways, catch the rest of the show after the jump…
I also love (good) music forums, my usual haunt just put me onto this – think it’s been around for a minute, but hey. We’ve supported the Beatchild for a minute here on PinBoard, his Soul Movement Vol. 1 project still gets regular plays on my iTunes. Well, he’s back, this time with Ebrahim & Tingsek (whom I need to know more about, clearly) with ‘War Within’ – a track which was recorded during their ‘Vibe, Love, Smile’ tour.
This song has the most incredible groove, my daze! From the vocals, the melody – everything about this is just pleasing me right now. Press play and download, you need this in your life. I will be repeating this a good few times today.
Wilson is a London based singer songwriter who’s been quietly doing the rounds on the London circuit for the last couple of years. Now with his commercial music degree under his belt and dues paid, he’s getting ready to make some noise!
He is a male soul vocalist unlike any other on the scene. A vocal filled with undeniable quality and sound of soul fused gospel combined with inspired musicianship that helps him stand apart from many of his peers. At the moment he is putting the finishing touches to his EP that should be dropping this summer here’s a couple of snippets of what to expect!
Dude is straight ridiculous! If you want to hear these songs in full catch him live performing alongside the Remedies at Remedy Live June 17th at the Rhythm Factory Whitechapel – as part of an awesome line up of quality live music featuring some of the best up and coming artists around.
Brand new FlyLo along with some visuals too. His Cosmogramma album is out now and comes highly recommended from the PinBoard crew. A very different sound to what he’s put out before, but definitely still relatable. Next level.
Producer Scott Storch talks about working with Dre on Detox, when we can expect it and confirms he has produced the albums first single ‘Under Pressure’ featuring Jay-Z. He also mentions that the Dr is looking for 3 more songs (‘which will take around 400 tracks to get to the 3′) and that the new album is very different from Chronic 2001.
Brand spanking new track from soul man Dwele taken from his forthcoming album W.ants W.orld W.omen - due out June 29th. Backed by a soulful Hip Hop groove, this track sees Dwele ‘wishing’ for any and everything from diamond pieces, to making mainstream music – he puts his heart and mind out there. I actually think this is quite brave, many (neo)Soul fans assume because their favourite singers produce thoughtful, organic music they don’t have the same (shallow, at times) fantasies as we do.
Pitchfork sit down with Big Boi to discuss beat selection, new music, why he began recording the solo record, and more – a great watch. After the jump, peep Big Boi spitting a freestyle/unofficial remix of ‘Shutterbug’.
I can no longer deny this, but Nicki Minaj is growing on me *pause*. I don’t know what it is or why it’s happening but I’m definitely not disliking her as I used to. Smh. I think it has something to do with Christina Aguilera’s ‘WooHoo’ track. This image isn’t helping, because, umm, Minaj looks dope. Barbie dope. This isn’t the cover, just a promo – we await to see the big reveal.
Note: I’m still not sold enough to be called a ‘fan’ – just, paying more attention.
Mark Ronson teams up with Q-Tip for this one – I’m really not feeling this at all, but maybe you’ll like it. Press play and let me know what you think. Something about it just isn’t right – it doesn’t have any soul.
You know you need to come hard when you name your new LP Album of the Year, right? Luckily, this is Black Milk we’re talking about and if his last project is anything to go by – this will be a strong contender for that very title. Up top is the artwork (fresh) and after the jump you’ll find the tracklist. Album drops June 27th. Get ready.
