NEW Track: M.I.A – ‘Haters’

Haven’t really been hyped about M.I.A’s new material, never really been a fan, but after hearing this new track – I gotta say, I’m definitely paying more attention…
It’s unclear as to whether or not ‘Haters’ will be featured on M.I.A’s upcoming album /\/\/\Y/\ (Maya) or whether it’s a track made in response to a recent New York Times interview where by a journalist allegedly misrepresented what the artist had said which then prompted M.I.A to post her number online (ouch).
Regardless of where it comes from, the beat on this track is insane. And, for the first time in a long time, I actually like the way M.I.A is singing/rapping on it. Really quite impressed with this. Dope.

It’s probably as close to a heartfelt ballad as M.I.A. will ever get. Reminds me of late 90′s Tricky in a good way.
I am really feeling this. Here last project was the ish! You can tell she’s really trying to rreach a broader audience but still stay true to her unique production style. I’m feelin it!

[...] A new track from M.I.A.’s 3rd studio album, ‘///Y/’ (MAYA), has landed on the internet & it’s quite dope if I do say so myself. I won’t be as bold as to dub Haters as the next Paper Planes but it does have it’s bright spots. The haunting melody sung by M.I.A. during the hook & bridge has–as I like to coin–‘Catchability’ although what exactly she is singing/humming is beyond the grasp of my ears (and possibly language barrier) it will still be stuck in your head for a a hot second. And of course the beat is standard M.I.A.ish, electronic based with hip-hop elements sprinkled in, so dig in. Cheers! via Pinboard [...]
