And here goes the second leak off The Cool Kids Tacklebox mixtape. I’ve been telling you guys about The Cool Kids since PinBoard was launched way back when (in fact, they were our first ever interview on here – back in 08), they have been mad consistent, this track is no exception. Production is on point as usual and the boys do their thing too, of course. Need that new mixtape – should drop any minute now.
I really didn’t know The Cool Kids were dropping a new mixtape tomorrow. Damn. ‘Freak City’ is the first track off Tacklebox – listen and consume. Their flow on this is pretty different from what we’ve heard before, but that beat – that beat is as usual, killer. These guys know how to produce, their beats never fail. Ever. I like this. New tape tomorrow is good news. Yep.
Update: Just added a video of the guys speaking to illroots about said mixtape. Peep it.
Haven’t really been hyped about M.I.A’s new material, never really been a fan, but after hearing this new track – I gotta say, I’m definitely paying more attention…
It’s unclear as to whether or not ‘Haters’ will be featured on M.I.A’s upcoming album/\/\/\Y/\ (Maya) or whether it’s a track made in response to a recent New York Times interview where by a journalist allegedly misrepresented what the artist had said which then prompted M.I.A to post her number online (ouch).
Regardless of where it comes from, the beat on this track is insane. And, for the first time in a long time, I actually like the way M.I.A is singing/rapping on it. Really quite impressed with this. Dope.
Even when this lady is on a break she eclipses most. Here goes another alternative video from the superstar. ‘My, Myself & I’ remains one of my favourite Bey tracks of all time. Her voice on this tune is crazy.
As Kelly mentioned exclusively to PinBoard in our interview, the ‘urban’ remix of her massive new single ‘Commander’ features rapper Nelly. Thanks to the guys over at Kelly-Rowland.net we can now hear the full track.
…While this mix is definitely a lot sexier – that beat is killer – I must admit, I prefer the original dance version. This version isn’t bad though, Kelly sounds dope, that beat is definitely working and the Nelly feature is cool too.
This is one of those money-can’t-buy, once in a lifetime situations – I’m so thankful someone got footage of this. Last week, the legend that is Patti LeBelle celebrated her 66th birthday at a surprise party in L.A, filled with celebrity well wishers including Stevie Wonder, Chrisette Michele, Eddie Levert and of course, Lalah Hathaway and more.
This being a party for Miss LaBelle, it was only natural that someone would take the mic and sing their appreciation. Amoung the performances that night, was Lalay Hathway’s stirring and emotional rendition of her fathers classic song ‘A Song for You’. Singing directly to Patti LaBelle – who was clearly ‘in’ the moment – Hathaway, with her gorgeous tone sang with such sincerity the entire crowd was captivated. Heck, I was captivated just watching it.
S1, the producer behind KanYe’s new (incredible) single ‘Power’ talks to MTV about how the collaboration came about, listen up top…
“The way it came together, I work with Rhymefest,” S1 told MTV News about the song, referring to another Chicago MC. “I did like four joints on his album. And one day, out the blue, I got a text from Rhymefest that said, ‘Kanye is loving your stuff, he said he’s about to change your life.’ Two days later, I got an e-mail that said my flight to Hawaii [where West recorded much of the album] leaves in three hours! So I was on a flight, and it just happened like that. I went down and stayed for like two weeks, banged out some joints.
I love the fact that Ye is saying “one man should’t have this much power” but then, he can say to a relatively unknown producer “I’m about to change your life” – beyond dope. KanYe is that dude. The single has been on CONSTANT repeat since it dropped yesterday. Welcome back Mr West.
