We told you it was gonna be a show not to be missed, and if you missed it – slap yourself. The entire show, from start to finish was amazing. All the acts performed incredibly and everyone (errrrrryone) was enjoying the vibes. Writers Block did their damn thing. Of course the headliner, Mr Jesse Boykins III shut it down and had each and every lady in the place screaming and waving their panties hollering. The dudes voice is just different live – he tore it down. He opened the show with a cover of Andre 3000′s “Prototype”, check it…

Download: Nas & Damian Marley Feat Dennis Brown – “The Promised Land”
Judging by the tracks that have surfaced thus far, this album is setting itself up to be one of the dopest of the year. “The Promise Land” is everything we hoped this collaboration would be. Cannot wait to see these two live in London, April 21st soon come.

Not sure if they’re callin’ this the ‘official video’ or not, but Ryan Leslie teams up with Adidas Orginals to shoot a rather crisp looking studio video for R-Les’ “Is It Real Love?”. The track is big, actually one of my favourites off his album Transition – which still gets regular plays.

I think you’re going to like this. I was planning on posting this when it first dropped last week, but it got a little buried under everything else. Nonetheless, I’m still excited (even after a week of non-stop-listening) to bring this to your attention.
Daru Jones and Kissy Asplund deliver a deliciously soulful experience with their new So Good EP. The 5 track project (7 including the bonus cuts) puts Jones’ impeccable production style on blast, while being perfectly accentuated by Kissey Asplund’s nu-soul vocals. So Good is just that: So… Freakin’…Good. It gives you absolutely no reason to skip any tracks, simply press play and let it work it’s soothing magic on you. My only critisim, if that’s what you could call it, would be that it ends too quickly – we need more!
Oh yea, did I mention it was completly free? Damn, does it get any better than that? Click play and then download via their bandcamp above. A great listen. Let me know what you think!
Peace, Love, Daru Jones & Kissy Asplund

I don’t normally post about events outside of London, but this trailer looks so dope, I kinda had to. Peter Hadar and his band, Long Kiss in Public, are about to take up residency at Ella in NYC, starting tonight. This promo video put together by Creative Control is a cool reminder of what he’s about and what you can expect from the shows.
Man, I wish I was in NYC right now.
Peace, Love & Peter Hadar

Produced by Hudson Mohawke, Theophilus London takes on Tweet’s “Oops (Oh My)” but of course, does so in his own unique way…

The production on this is dope, soon as I heard Mohawke was behind it, I knew that was going to be a case. Theophilus does his thing on this too, not necessarily my favourite track from him but still, I love that he’s taken it on and done it in his own way. Def prefer the verses to the hook. His new album I Want You drops April 29th.

Really not feelin’ this new material Toni is putting out. “Hands Tied” is a no thrills ballad, that offers nothing new at all. Once again though, Braxton looks incredible in the video. “Hands Tied” and “Make My Heart” are dual releases off her upcoming album Pulse.

Was just sent Maxwell’s new video, but just been informed (thanks Tweeple) that it’s not working for folks outside the US. Apologies. I wouldn’t normally post something that UK peeps can’t view, but now that’s it up – I’m going to leave it until’ I find one available worldwide. Apologies – won’t happen again!
Mad apologies for not re-upping the worldwide version guys, like I said – won’t happen again. Now, enjoy some new visuals from Maxwell. This track remains one of my favourites off BlackSummersNight

Oh, damn, this ain’t good. Expected and understandable maybe, but not good. According to various reports Whitney Houston’ got everything ‘but love’ during her first live UK gig in over 15 years. The show was so terrible that the Birmingham crowd resorted to booing the legend while on stage. Their complaints were focused on her vocal ability (or lack there of) and her continuously extended costume changes – which saw the singer frequently leave the stage and her brother (?!?) take over. Whitney herself acknowledged her fans dismay when after returning from a 20-minute break said “I could hear you getting pissed off”. “It’s the worst concert I’ve ever been to in my life” said one concert goer. “Too much talking, not enough singing” said another [source]
Man, this is just so sad! I hate to keep on saying it but clearly, Whitney Houston should not be on stage at the moment. She needs to get her voice back on track – I’m not even sure that’s possible at this point – because she’s actually murdering her legacy. People should not remember Whitney’s unparalleled talent as what it is today and I guess the only way to preserve that is to not sing right now.
I have been a Whitney Houston fan, like most people, pretty much all my life and I would love to be able to say that I’ve seen her live, but I point blank refuse (REFUSE) to attend this tour and have my image of what Houston can do tarnished. The same way I refuse and continue to refuse to check Lauryn Hill’s live shows. It’s not worth it.
Above all else, it’s just sad.
Peace, Love & Whitney Houston

C-Breezy fans, get excited – your boy is coming over to the UK for a series of live dates. The “I Can Transform Ya” singer will extend his ‘Fan Appreciation’ tour this June, playing Glasgow (June 9th), Birmingham (June 10th), Manchester (June 11th) and finally London (June 13th) at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo. Nope, not the O2 Arena, the Hammersmith Apollo.
Not sure tickets are on sale yet (I just peeped Ticketmaster and only Glasgow is for sale) – will update info soon as I know.
But my question – Will YOU be checking Chris Brown’s show?
Peace, Love & Chris Brown
