…You know, this dude has found a dope sound that suits him perfectly AND sets him apart from everyone out at the moment, especially in the UK. He reminds me a lot of KiD CuDi (the whole rapping/singing thing) but saying that, I think he’s definitely got his own thing going on. The actual track, especially the end, doesn’t sound that different from “Pass Out” though, that’s my only criticism. I was wondering how he was going to follow up from the last single – this is a good look. But yea, the similarity thing is a bit…Suspect.
Not all of you will agree, but I diggin’ this tune…
I think the R&B heads out there will like this – I’m not 100% on it but that’s only because I’m not the biggest fan of this type of Rhythm and Blues. Mars’ voice sounds tough though, excited to hear more from him.
Last night musics biggest stars performed on American Idol’s ‘Gives Back’ show, which raises money for various charitably causes. Alica Keys performed her new single “Un-Thinkable”, Mary J Blige performed the Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and Black Eyed Peas rocked their newest hit “Imma Be/Rocking That Body”. The night also saw performances from Joss Stone, Elton John and Annie Lennox.
Chris Brown, what the f*ck you doing sir? Your career isn’t poppin’ right now (for obvious reasons), doing this is not helping you. Where’s your management/PR at? Word is Breezy & Tyga are working on a mixtape entitled Fan of a Fan – what happened to “I can’t be a mixtape artist”? Really? How many of you think this mixtape…or collaboration for that matter would have taken place had that ugly ‘incident’ not happened? Um, yea.
Why the heck is he rapping?
I’m not a publicity expert, but I’m pretty sure with enough work and time Chris Brown could come back. He’s a young guy and the bottom line is – we (the public) cannot punish him forever. However, with this type of stupidness (and I call it stupidness because we all know, musically speaking, he’s better than this) continually dropping, it’s getting harder and harder to disassociate the man and the talent.
The homie Fantastic*nt introduced me to The XX a while back and I’ve been a fan ever since. Their album XX, from where this track comes, is brilliant – if you haven’t already check them out – definitely one for the open minded music heads out there.
So, we’ve seen the album cover (which I still haven’t fully gotten over), now it’s time to peep the final tracklist for Janelle Monae’s upcoming (future classic) album The ArchAndroid – check it after the jump.
Good, albeit short, clip of Drake performing a new track off Thank Me Later, called “Fireworks” at the 13th annual BMI Urban Showcase. Drizzy’s debut drops June 15th.
Amelia just shot over some footage she took while at SXSW of Sonnymoon performing their insanely dope song “Gills or Wings”. We’ve featured Sonnymoon a couple times here on PinBoard (S_H_E was supposed to be featuring this song too *ahem*) and have been following their movements for a minute – they’re an exciting new band, offering up something a little different.
Peep their music via their bandcamp, see what you think…
This is a little random, but I just found this on vimeo and had to quickly post it up. “PIXELS” is a short film by director Patrick Jean – shot on location in NYC it sees classic 8-bit video game characters invade and destroy the city.
Written, directed by : Patrick Jean / Director of Photograhy: Matias Boucard / SFX by Patrick Jean and guests / Produced by One More Production
Soul superstar Maxwell performed his new single “Fist Full of Tears” live on Dancing with the Stars last night. As always, he deliverers a solid performance – still love this song.
First up, that introduction is not happening – what is that? The song in general – it’s not that great to be honest. I find Jamie very hit and miss, certain songs of his are decent – but then he goes down this cheesy, mundane R&B route and offers nothing new or fresh. Sure you R&B heads will feel differently though…
Well, I’ll be damned – this is kinda hot! Solange is definitely carving her own path with the new material she’s playing with. This reminds me of something Theophilus London would jump on (the two are homies) – I like it, I like that she’s experimenting and working on something fresh and…Contemporary. Diggin’ this. Solange is currently working on her third album, which is expected to drop sometime this year.
“The High School Graduate” [is] exclusive behind the scenes footage of super-producer Kanye West in his New Jersey home studio working on demo tapes for himself and Rhymefest in early 2002. This clip contains unreleased material from Chicago hip-hop veteran Rhymefest. Filmed by: Danny Joe Sorge [Source]
[Part 2] This clip contains an early version of the Grammy-winning hit single, “Jesus Walks” and the unreleased “Living A Movie”.
Haven’t watched it fully yet but from what I see, this seems cool. Check part 2 after the jump…
