Today sees the (US) release of B.o.B’s album The Adventures of Bobby Ray and in celebration, we decided to drop the interview we did with him while he was in town a few weeks ago.
We discussed a number of things including what it was like for him growing up in Atlanta, the thought process behind his debut album, the difference between B.o.B & Bobby Ray, as well as possibly playing the Cello on stage (?!?), among other things!
The Adventures of Bobby Ray is released in the US today and sees a May 17th UK release. Either way, support good music and buy yourself a copy!
Gotta give it up to the homie Mike Hough for his SB.TV A64 – singing his own song called “She’s The One”, the guy smashes it! Strong vocals, good song – just him, a guitar and a backing singer (who I randomly know via the homie @MrCog?). Very big, you guys need to keep your eyes and ears locked on this dude - he’s going the distance. Keep up with him on twitter to be in the know.
Mike is headlining his own show at the Indig02 (strong look!) on June 3rd 2010 – get your tickets via ticketmaster now.
Check out Monica responding to the praise Brandy recently gave her on the success of her latest album Still Standing. The R&B singer also discusses the twos past relationship, the ‘feud’ they were both sucked into and also the possibility of a future collaboration.
It’s great to see these guys have each others backs – there’s absolutely no reason why they shouldn’t. They both recorded one of the biggest R&B songs of all time (truth) and have been in the industry for such a long time – ‘beef’ is almost pointless at this point. And while I am extremely excited about the prospect of another collaboration between these two – I am a little worried that unless they come back HARD – it will be a big fat fail. “The Boy Is Mine” was recorded at a time when R&B was really, really cutting edge and at the forefront – unfortunately times have changed, drastically and so if they produced some lacklustre, soulless, standard R&B track – it really won’t be a good look on either of their parts.
…Hopefully it happens and happens right in any case!
Hamilton’s voice is so soulful, from the minute he opens his mouth you feel what he’s saying. I’m a big fan of this guy and I still do not get why so many people sleep on what he does and has been doing for a long time now.
I’ve been needing this album for so long now, it’s doing my head in haha. Here’s another brand new leak from Distant Relatives featuring the incredible K’Naan…
Love what these guys have done. Their melodic, concious material I really believe is going to resonate with a lot of people. It’s 3 out of 3 so far with the leaks we’ve heard, so yea I remain excited about the album which drops May 17th.
…A really, really, really dope track called “Role Model”. Damn. This is real, real nice – the beat, Curren$y’s flow – I like this a lot. Feeling like I’m in the 90′s all over again.
Game finally decides to drop his mixtape – how long ago were we meant to have this? Jeeze. Anyways, it’s finally here those who are fans will probably dig this, those who aren’t – I reckon, will hate it lol. I’ve just heard a couple joints and it’s sounding pretty cool – but not gonna cast my opinion fully yet without listening properly. Find the tracklist after the jump
Here goes another new track, supposedly off Lupe’s upcoming album and although it’s short, it’s pretty high quality…
Damn, this sounds super fresh! Gutted it’s not the full version – that production is killer and Lupe’s flow is craaazy! Hopefully this does make the cut and appears on Lasers.
Peace, Love & Lupe Fiasco

P.s I expect the label to rip that stream down, if they do – let me know. SMH.
Theophilus London just put this out on his twitter – not sure if it’s the official video or just a promo something. Either way, I’m feeling this track – his new mixtape I Want You is on it’s way.
This EP blends 80′s Funk with 90′s R&B – I actually couldn’t think of anything better if I tried!
I’ve been a big fan of French beat-maker Onra for a minute now, but after hearing “Long Distance” feat Oliver Day Soul a while back, I have been desperately waiting to hear the rest. The EP, entitled Long Distance was released on iTunes last week and is a precursor to his full album of the same name set to drop in May.
“Long Distance” (stream above) the EP’s title track has a funky soul groove ready to get any house party or rave going. Olivier Day Soul applies his soulful vocals to this modern day New Jack Swing track – just listen to it and tell me I’m wrong! “High Hopes” featuring Reggie B, is in my opinion the EP’s highlight track – it takes me back to the sizzling summers of the 1990′s. Onra has found a brilliant way of blending something very fresh and current and lacing it over something quintessentially ol’ school. This track reminds me a lot of Prince circa 1996. The EP’s two instrumental tracks “Rock On” and “Oper8tor” display Onra’s impeccable talent as a beat maker – incorporating synthesised funk, hard knocking beats and 80′s experimental sounds.
Onra’s blend of contemporary and classic sounds work brilliantly well – I found Long Distance to be completely refreshing – I can only imagine what the full album will sound like! This is feel good music.
Onra’s Long Distance EP is out now, you can buy it via iTunes (£2.49!) – I implore you, purchase it, play it loud and enjoy! The full album is scheduled to drop in May
Some high quality footage of Drizzy performing “Fireworks”, the opening track on his debut album Thank Me Later and the New Orleans Jazz Fest yesterday. He also performs other tracks – I don’t have time to watch this in full, but while I slave away – enjoy for me!
I posted the shitty song the other day, now it’s time for the politically charged 9-minute video. I‘m about to press play, so will comment after I watch.
…Ok, so I just watched it – without question a deeply political video, which has been filmed beautifully (directed by Romain Gavras). And as much as I admire M.I.A’s bravery here and 100% respect her views and process, the fact remains: the song is still awful – admittedly it’s a little more bearable while watching the video – simply because the visual story unfolding is so engrossing, but that’s about it. Further more, I am actually quite shocked to see how graphic it is at times – wonder if MTV will play this (LOL!).
