This tune is big, but this video? Bigger. Bashy comes through with some sleek looking visuals (UK stand up and take note) for the theme song for his upcoming movie “Shank”. Much respect to Mr Thomas – I continue to respect his hustle. Oh, and Loick that’s care of that hook nicely.

R&B star Usher performed a medley of (mostly) new and old songs, including “Yeah” at this years NBA All-Star Game.
…I don’t know what it is, but something was just off with this performance. It’s weird, I can’t put my finger on what was wrong with it because actually, he didn’t do that bad of a job – but yea, just a bit off. And that new material sounds awful. This dude has been in the game for a long time now, and props to him – but that comes with a price – it means you have to switch things up a bit to make yourself relevant and contemporary. The same ol’ R&B tracks and same ol’ dance routines just don’t cut it anymore.

Some rare footage of The King of Pop recording the original “We Are The World” has surfaced. Damn, this gives me some serious goosebumps. Watching MJ laying down his legendary vocals for such an historic moment – amazing.
Most people are pretty disgusted with the remake and I must say – it’s pretty fu*king appalling. Much respect for Beyonce, Lady GaGa, Rihanna, Jay-Z and co. for not having anything to do with it. The remake has cost us a lot – illdoctrine and rappersiknow have shut up shop in light of the travesty. SMH.

“Everybody gets knocked down, how quick are you going to get up?”
Nikes new short film, Human Chain, celebrates the intensity, dynamism and determination that connects athletes in all sports and motivates them to inspiring performances. From Lance Armstrong on his bike, to a six-year-old studying martial arts, movement is the universal language that connects the athlete in everyone. Its a language of beauty, drama, tragedy and triumph.
Nike do some of the best adverts/short films – this one is no exception. Hadn’t heard that song before, but I really love it. For those ignorant as me, it’s a track by The Hours called “Ali in the Jungle”. It’s a bit tune.

I keep tellin ya’ll, 2010 = the return of great music! Another new track from the one and only Janelle Monae…
Download: Janelle Monae – “Cold War”
With Janelle’s signature style all over this and with some rather epic sounding guitar riffs (that even Prince would be proud of) “Cold War” is yet another impressive track off her forthcoming debut album The ArchAndroid, which is released May 18th. I love that Monae’s songs always have a real message behind all the musical theatrics – she’s an artist with a lot to say, which is always refreshing. I’m already predicting the new album to be one of the best of the year. Trust me here. Just trust me

Marsha Ambrosius drops a special Valentines Day track for all you in the lovin’ mood (but even those who ain’t, will love this!)…
Download: Marsha Ambrosius – “Let Me Go”
Oh, damn – “neighbours will complain, as you blow my brain” – nuff said really! Aside from the fact that this track serves up everything I love about Miss Ambrosius – I love the fact that’s cool to just give these types of tracks away for free – a true singer/songwriter if ever there was one. Her vault collection must be crazy! I’ve said it many times before, and feel no way about saying it again: Marsha Ambrosius is absolutely one of my favourite artists – period.
…Also, if you have seen our fantastic (video) interview with Marsha, I highly recommend you check it out. It’s one of my favourite interviews we’ve done on PinBoard!
Peace, Love & Marsha Ambrosius

Jennifer Hudson performed “Someday We’ll All Be Free” at the White House Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement and as always, delivered a passionate and moving rendition.
J-Hud is fast becoming one of the stand out female vocalists of this generation – her soul stirring performances and incredible ability is definitely setting her apart from many of her contemporaries. Let’s not forget her stunning tribute to Whitney Houston during the BET Honours show. I hope a new album drops soon and I hope it’s better than her debut – she deserves much better material as to what was found on the last record.

New music from R&B star Brandy…
Download: Brandy – “Sober”
Produced by Bryan-Michael Cox, “Sober” is a rather underwhelming track. It’s not bad – it’s very Brandy in that this could have been on any of her past albums. Having a trademark is a good thing, but you need to be able to play around with it and be creative with it – to keep things fresh. Looking forward to the new album.

Download: Janelle Monae Feat Big Boi – “Tightrope”
The PinBoard Crew and I were just discussing how 2010 has so far, been a great year for music – this just reaffirms that fact. I remember Janelle performing this at Cargo last year – I loved it then and still do. This track is B-I-G. Big Boi of course, does the damn thing. This track is the first single off Janelle’s upcoming album The ArchAndroid. Need that album.
