I miss everything there is to miss about this. Missy’s futuristic chemistry with Timbaland, their fresh approach to songs, her imaginative harmonies and lyrics, the visionary music video – everything. Supa Dupa Fly & Da Real World remain two of Elliott’s best and most creative offerings. Miss E…So Addictive did it’s damn thing too, but the first two kill it, in every sense.
The crew and I have been reminiscing on this (seemingly forgotten) ‘era’ in R&B/Hip Hop recently – truth be told, this is the type of ish I grew up on. Many cite Biggie and 2Pac etc, and to an extent, that was me too, but it was the early Alien-esque beats of Timbaland, She’kspere and the Neptunes (to name a few) that really got me interested and invested in music.
“Can’t Help Who You Love” is a piano led ballad that sees Jennifer’s voice sounding as lovely and strong as it usually does. I actually quite like this one. It’s not the most exciting song, but still – it’s nice. I’m looking forward to Hudson’s new album, and hope it’s better than her debut.
Jenny from the Block hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ last night, check her out taking the piss out of Rihanna during a ‘We Are the World’ remake parody - the whole thing is pretty funny! And then, after the jump, check her performing two new songs “Pieces” and “Starting Over” – both off her new album Love?
The first time I ever heard of Sonnymoon and their version of Drake’s “HOUSTATLANTAVEGAS” was when Melo-X dropped his remix of it. Not sure anyone can deny this version of “HOUSTATLANTAVEGAS”. It’s dope, straight up. Completely different from Drake’s original- but great regardless. Really like this.
Take a look at how Alicia Keys put her ‘Freedom’ show together in this behind the scenes video. The worldwide tour actually kicks off tonight in Canada, then goes to America, Europe etc etc…
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen Alicia Keys live now – but I have to say, every time I’ve seen her – she has rocked the house. I always tell people who haven’t yet seen her in concert that her voice is so much more powerful live than it is on a CD. She’s one of the very few artists’ who’s voice is actually quite different live – it’s much stronger. Definitely recommend you check her out if you can.
I don’t know what to think about this. I mean, it’s ‘nice’ – but it’s a bit boring for me. I much prefer the funkier Macy – the track she dropped and we posted last month called “Money” was big. “Beauty In The World” is definitely going back to when she first burst onto the scene and I’m sure many will like it. I’m not saying I don’t, I’m just saying – it’s a little…Dry. But at the very same time, quite sweet lol. This would work in the Summer time maybe.
A nice smooth, soulful joint. Not the best song I’ve ever heard – but it’s definitely serving it’s purpose and will definitely be hitting that soulful Sunday playlist. This track comes of Devaughn’s The Love & War Masterpeace project.
Rihanna’s in town at the moment, she performed her new single “Rude Boy” on GMTV earlier today – check it out above. After the jump you can watch her interview on the morning show…
Apologies for posting this a little late, it’s been one of those days. Anyways, as promised, check out Prince’s brand new song “Cause and Effect” (radio rip)…
Hmmm, can’t say this is the best Prince track I’ve ever heard – but I love the ol’ school, ‘Revolution’ sound. Those guitar riffs are crazy. As with most of Prince’s recent musical ventures, this does seem to lack that ‘something’. He needs to come back with some more Musicology type stuff. Big album still. But nonetheless, I’m always happy to hear new music from this Legend.
Despite it being produced by David Guetta (ergh), this is actually kinda cool. Estelle did the right thing by switching things up, she had too. Love that Kardinal is on there too. And love that Soul II Soul sample – running into that Garage beat too. What?! The video, which debuts today via her official site, is also looking pretty mammoth.
Peace, Love & Estelle

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of the Gorillaz, so it’s no surprise that I’m feelin’ this track. De La Soul on their tracks is always great to hear. Feelin’ this. Oh, and don’t forget on March 2nd, Xfm will be playing the album in full for the first time anywhere – more info here.
I was dreading this remake, but I can’t front – the trailer looks great and what’s more, it seems (for the most part) like they staye true to the original story. Which, to be a success (in my opinion at least), was essential.
…I kid you not, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is my favourite horror movie of all time (followed closely by “Halloween”). My older sisters used to make me (and I mean, make me) watch this to scare the living sh*t out of me and then use it as leverage. Yep. I grew up on this movie and at some point (after being desensitised to it), I realised how much of an revolutionary and iconic film it was. The 1980′s was the decade for the horror genre and Freddie Krueger was and remains one of it’s biggest stars. Lets see if his return will be a success. I’ll be going to see this one.
Admittedly I don’t often listen to the radio, but as a maaaaahoosssive fan of the Gorillaz, come March 2nd, Xfm will have my full and undivided attention…
Global Radio’s Xfm will broadcast the world exclusive full playback of the brand new album from Gorillaz next week. Plastic Beach is released on Monday 8th March but will have its first full airplay on Xfm on Tuesday 2nd March at 12pm, in an exclusive show presented by John Kennedy, joined by Gorillaz’ very own Murdoc Niccals
…Murdoc said: “Listen up, right. I’ve let Captain James ‘John’ Kennedy have my amazing new Gorillaz album Plastic Beach. He’s going to play it out on XFM this coming Tuesday and I’ll be there with him to tell him all about it. Be there or be square. Over and Out!”
Plastic Beach will boast features from Kano, De La Soul and the groups newest ‘member’ Mos Def to name a few. Looking forward to hearing the new material and I gotta say these promo vids have been on point!
