The article features an in-depth interview where she talks about moving forward after the passing of her brother, her new year resolutions, the new album, her new book and much more. You can check out a couple excerpts after the jump, along with another beautiful image of her in the mag.

It’s got the point where I can’t even deny this chick her props. Don’t get me wrong, I do not like her music. I think she can definitely sing, but it’s just not my cup of tea per-say. However, in terms of performance and execution – Lady GaGa is slaying everyone else out there at the moment. This, her first appearance on the Oprah show, was as erratic as you have come to expect from her – but she’s doing her damn thing – that can’t be denied.

You can check her interview with Mama O after the jump. It’s actually quite an interesting watch – not least because of that hair.

Sabrina Washington, former lead singer of Mis-Teeq is back with a rather pop-tastic sound. Check the press release below…

The voice of Mis-Teeq gets set to return to the charts with her debut solo single, OMG, released on 15th March 2010.

Bringing some much-needed sass and a whole lot of style to the nation’s airwaves with her no-nonsense electro-charged ladies’ anthem ‘OMG (Oh My Gosh)’. The song was co-written by Sabrina and Ali Tennant, a British writing talent who has previously worked with pop names such as Britney Spears and JLS.

…The album she has developed has a slick, funky and deliciously dirty pop sound. With new tunes including such thrillingly upfront jams as the wicked future-pop of ‘Strip’ and take-no-prisoners R&B floor-shaker ‘I Want It Ruff’, it’s clear Sabrina knows exactly wants she wants and how she’s going to get it. “Yes, it is provocative and sexy,” Sabrina laughs. “But I’m a woman now, I’m not a little girl anymore.”

Apologies to all my real Hip Hop/Soul brethren, but I love me some good Pop. Good, catchy, ol’ fashion fun music is something we all need from time to time! “OMG” sounds similar to something Britney would drop, the main difference being: Sabrina can actually sing. Those big tunes Mis-Teeq used to drop, Washington was behind them (writing and singing) – and you know, it’s time the UK has its own strong female pop star dropping good, fun music.

I’ve got the full track and I have to say, this snippet doesn’t do it much justice. Either way, love it or hate it – you’ll find yourself singing it on a regular soon as you hear it a couple times.

Peace, Love & Sabrina Washington

My favourite song off Alicia’s new album Element of Freedom. Probably one of Alicia Keys’ best song across all her albums, beautifully written, well produced, perfectly executed. This live rendition was brilliant also.

In this episode, Shafiq Husayn talks about his recent solo release, “Shafiq En’ A-Free-Ka”, the meaning behind the album, his various musical influences and upbringing, and his overall history in the music industry, talking about the differences in working with major and independent record labels.

Enjoyed that. Been listening to En-A-Free-Ka since I first got my hands on it, all music heads must have that album.

I’m normally a fan of Kelis, but this chick needs to shut the f*ck up. Below is an open letter to PETA where the singer attempts to defend herself for wearing animal fur (pictured). Her erratic rambling is both ignorant and uneducated. Not to mention, very telling. Have a read of the rather long winded mumbo-jumbo…

There is no humane way to kill anything, let me start there. It’s unfortunate but it’s part of life. With that being said, I would eat pterodactyl if you found some and you told me it was meaty and delicious. And after doing a very minimal amount of research……. I found out that the founder Ingrid Newkirk is completely batty. I had a feeling but she far exceeded my expectations. I mean certifiably insane! Lol this chicks will is nuts, google it – it’s a riot! Beyond the fact that I think she’s a diabetic, which means she needs insulin, which is taken from lab pigs (I know this because my sister happens to be in veterinary school), which would be completely hypocritical. It’s like don’t abuse animals unless it can help me.

I feel very strongly about a lot of things such as the sweatshops that spin cotton and the blood on their hands. Btw it’s not just the look of fur. It’s warm as hell and feels glorious, ever rubbed faux fur on your body? Nothing luxurious about that. Then the letter proceeded to name artist and designers who don’t wear real fur. Great! More for me! I don’t judge them, don’t judge me.

If I started wearing endangered animals like polar bear or orangutan then talk to me. (Which btw for the record I would not – I do believe in the preservation of endangered species) But the minks and chinchilla that quite honestly are rodents and if weren’t in the form of a coat I would demand they be put to death anyway are not an issue to me.

The death of high fashion. Ugh.

I eat meat, and in fact my mouth salivates as I type the word meat! And the paint throwing that’s just ridiculous! What if I was hurling Loubitons and Pierre Hardy’s at every sad poorly dressed person on the street? As right as I may be it’s just fanatical and crazy. And people have the right to feel as they please. What about art? Survival of the fittest. Natural selection? No let’s just let all the rodents run free and over take our cities. Oh wait they have, NY and LA in particular are infested! Why don’t u save them all from scavenging on the streets and ruining my evening strolls, take them home. Make them pets! Get off my back! Pun intended!

Underpaid minorities picking your vegetables, now that’s fine for you right? Please, fight for their rights. How about the poverty in the communities of brown people around the world. She had the nerve to say (and I quote) “get over it” talking of the issue of black people and slavery in this country verses cows being slaughtered. Is she kidding me? Lol yes she must be. Actually, she’s lucky most black people have real issues to worry about in the U.S and don’t give a crap what her delusional privileged opinions are. But she should try saying that again just for kicks n giggles on the corner of Adam Clayton Powell Blvd in Harlem n see how well people “get over it” lol.

If u want to preach do it about something worthwhile don’t waste my time trying to save the dang chipmunk.

Find a worthwhile cause like the women being maimed in these Middle Eastern countries. Or female circumcision. Or women’s rights here in America, we still get paid less for doing the same jobs as men. Quite honestly if you hate the world so much go live in the forest where no one else has to hear you complain about the perfectly good food chain the good Lord created. Everyone has the right to an opinion, and that’s mine on that! xoxo

“The death of high fashion. Ugh.” ?? What an absolute fool.

Kelis, like many who wear and/or endorse fur needs to do some serious research. The argument of ‘we eat meat, so why can’t we wear fur’ has always dumbfounded me. Killing a cow (for instance), eating it and using it’s skin for leather is not only economical but also (especially in some cultures) respectful to the animal. But farming animals, in cages no bigger than their own bodies, killing them by sticking hod-rods up their back ends (so as not to harm the fur) or skinning them alive and being ‘ok’ with that is above anything else – completely cruel. How can anyone justify wearing the skin of an animal which has been brutally killed for no other reason but fashion, vanity and greed? Kelis’ arguement: ‘it’s warm as hell and feels glorious”. Nice.

Ignorance should not be allowed such a large platform. I only posted this up because I feel people (especially fans) should know how far removed some folk, with money and fame can be. As I said before, for me, this letter is extremely telling.

This is my blog. My opinion. You don’t have to agree with it. I am able to separate artist from art, and when (IF) Kelis’ ever drops another hot record, I will of course support the art – that don’t mean I gotta like the woman behind it.

Peace, Love & Peta

The other day we posted Dessa’s new video for “Poor Atlas” – now (what I assume is) a new track called “The Chaconne” featuring Matthew Santos has just surfaced…

I LOVE this song. Dessa’s new album is shaping up to be something quite special. This, like “Poor Atlas”, sounds like nothing out at the moment. “The Chaconne” is so refeshing to listen to – Dessa’s voice along side Matthew Santos’ works brilliantly. Really liking this.

My brother in crime Fantastic*nt decided to (finally) feed us another one of his dope “Your Mum” mixtapes in association with PinBoardBlog.com. But seen as many months have passed since his last one, he hasn’t dropped just one, nope, he’s dropped three. Looking at the tracklist (found after the jump) – this sh*t is beyond epic. The dude knows how to put a mixtape together, comprised of some of the most incredible and eclectic songs, these tapes will keep you happy for a minute…or ten.

109 joints to kiss ‘09 farewell, across 3 track-packs. (Admittedly I’m 2 weeks late, but love takes time.)

Comprised of: 1) Songs lying around from last year’s mixtape potentials folders that I never got to put out (hence the coinage ‘MISStape’- witty enough?). 2) Tracks collated from mid-November to the very end of December since my last drop. 3) The odd uber-random gem from the Noughties here n’ there as a nod to this bygone era (I was going through some vintage folders from my teen years, never one to be stingy, i.e. unreleased Jaylib joint ‘Follow Me’, hard to find rarity fo’ ya).

Usually leave these alphabetical, but this time spent 3 and half weeks arranging & re-arranging (so thematically & sonically I’ve moulded these editions to be about love & time, whilst you should still be able to dance spastically or vibe sweetly or have the sexy sex or thug out a wee bit or just cry to it). So, honour Your Mum, listen to that sh*t in order please.

By the end of Feb or early March, I’ll have the next one/s ready. Aight my lovers?

Aight.

Ya’ll can expect a lot more of this type of thing from IBootLeggedYourMum and PinBoard in 2010. We’re going to be working on bringing you guys something real cool and real special – hol’ tight.

Find parts 2 and 3 after the jump, along with their respective tracklists.

Being 100%, you don’t find much of Gucci Mane on PBB, simply because I’m personally not a fan. I know many are, not saying the dude isn’t talented – it’s just a preference thing. Anyways, the good homie Zayns (who you’ll be ‘seeing’ a lot more of around here in the coming weeks and months) sent over this Zomby remix, which goes hard…

It’s funny, I was just listening Eric Lau’s New Territories last night and then the lovely Amelia sent this brand new mix Eric did for BTS Radio NY called Warm It Up

Eric Lau has cemented his place as one of the leaders of the contemporary UK soul movement following his debut release “New Territories” on Ubiquity Records. Sitting on a pile of beats in his London flat, Lau is not to be underestimated as a hip-hop producer, having already made the classic anthem, “For The D” with Guilty Simpson. Lau is currently setting his pieces for a full length hip-hop release, the final results of which will make him a force to be reckoned with.

Just hit play myself and from what this is bloody amazing! Check the tracklist after the jump if ya need further proof.

It only takes one video… Shout out to Blu for giving us an “exclusive”  kind of interview, I know it’s quite rare, and shout out to Val for conducting it with passion. Shout out especially to the Pac Div team for welcoming us at their Xmas Toy drive. It was an event on behalf of the Hollygrove Agency and we’re grateful to have been a part of it.

Blu talks about his 2010 projects, sounds kinda exciting and inspiring for hip hop (is not dead). For all those out there who don’t know us yet, stop sleeping and come and connect!
