Muhsinah and FlyLo. You know what to do…

Mushinah – “Lose My Fuse” (Prod. Flying Lotus)

This track comes off Muhsinah’s new album The Oscillations: Triangle and like most of things she drops, I absolutely love this. And of course, FlyLo – good Lord – if I were an artist, he’d be producing my album lol.

Peace, Love & Muhsinah

Trey Songz assists Mary J. Blige on a track off Stronger With Each Tear (Dec 21st)…

Mary J. Blige Feat Trey Songz – “We Got That Hood Love”

So, it seems like Mary’s new album is going to be pretty dope! So far, I’ve liked all the leaks – this one is no exception. “We Got Hood Love” is big – what I call classic R&B. Trey Songz seems to be the go-to-man in R&B at the moment (Toni Braxton, Chris Brown etc), he’s doing his thing and sounds good with Mary too. Really like this.

P.s Now that is what you call an album cover!

PBB was sent an advance copy of C-Breezy’s album early last week and I must confess, I’m pretty impressed with it. It’s not the album of the year, but in parts, Chris Brown definitely delivers.

…These two tracks are bonus cuts from Graffiti and while I know the album is all over the TinterNets now, I’m unsure whether or not these tracks are. SO, I’m posting just incase they’re not.

Chris Brown – “Movie” / “Graffiti”

I actually like both these tracks and think they’d fit quite well on the album. “Movie” is a real smooth, classic R&B ballad, while “Graffiti” is a typical Chris Brown up-tempo. Both tracks work.

Peace, Love & Chris Brown

P.s …But that damn album cover? What is that about?

New Urrrrsher…

Usher – “Stay Down”

Firstly, that intro is atrocious. Just need to say that. After that though, this ain’t terrible. It’s not my favourite leak of his, but something about that melody works for me. Usher’s vocal’s sound nice on this too. I must say, from all the tracks that have surfaced thus far, I have no clue as to what ‘direction’ Mr Raymond is taking on the new album. Each song has had a totally different feel/style. Interesting.

Peace, Love & Usher

Superstar Janet Jackson took to the X-Factor stage earlier tonight performing her classic “All For You”, as well as her new track “Make Me” promoting her new Number Ones album.

I always love seeing Janet perform, especially when she’s looking as good as she did here – BUT I can’t sit here and say that was her best and most energetic performance. I’d simply be lying. It was a good offering, but I honestly didn’t get the ‘magic’ I’ve come to expect.

It’s all good though, I ain’t mad. It’s Janet Jackson!

Lady GaGa also performed on the X-Factor too. I’m not a fan and don’t really follow/post anything on here about her – but if you’re interested, you can catch her performance after the jump.

Peace, Love & Janet Jackson

Sounds like Black’s album Masterpiece Theatre would have been pretty serious. Wonder if it’ll ever see the light of day?

Kelly Rowland sat down and did an interview with one of her biggest fan sites, which I think is actually pretty fly. She answered questions from her fans from around the world and spoke about her new album, the challenges of picking great songs, producers she’s working with and the fact that she’s now running her own show.

I do like Kelly, both her voice and personality – so I really do hope she comes hard with this record. We all know it’s great to do it on your own, but that also means full responsibility, right?

Peace, Love & Kelly Rowland

This is rare, a Leona Lewis track I actually really like. This track is from the upcoming movie “Avatar”…

Leona Lewis – “I See You”

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I haven’t been posting very much of Leona Lewis recently. I’m just not feeling any of the new material – the word lackluster is an understatement. Thus her performances of said songs do not interest me either.

However, I’m still a huge fan of her talent and really do believe once she really realises who she is as an artist – she could actually come with something credible and…good. This song however is beautiful. These are the type of ballads I expect from Ms Lewis. The instrumentation sounds epic and almost classical in parts. Her voice soars like I haven’t heard in a while. Leona still stands as one of the best vocalists we have and have had in a long time – I just hope as she evolves, her music does too.

Peace, Love & Leona Lewis

boombapcontinuum

Download: “A Boom Bap Continuum” (right click and save as)

This is why I love doing what I do.

I discovered this mixtape late last night (it dropped a couple weeks back) and quite literally haven’t stopped listening to it since. It’s been on repeat all day.

2tall, Kper & Clockwork have created a ridiculously epic mix in the shape of A Boom Bap Continuum, featuring some of the biggest and most important tracks in contemporary Hip Hop, the art of Hip Hop production and beat making is explored perfectly during this 1 hour, 20 minute tape. We’re talking Dilla, Quasimoto, Nosaj Thing, Pete Rock, Flying Lotus, Waajeed, Onra, Bullian, Hudson Mohawk, Exile, Little Dragon, Black Milk, Harmonic 313, Dam-Funk, Dorian Concept and TONS more!

The tape boasts over 250 tracks, featuring over 80 producers from 1999-2009.

This stuff drives me crazy – it’s so good. I’m trying to find the right words to explain how great it is, but I’m fully aware that nothing I can say will help illustrate how brilliant and intelligently put together it is. All I can do is feature it, urge you to download it (it’s totally free) and listen to it. Listen to it loudly, in your head phones, in your room, on road – just listen to it.

This is a journey from late 90s crate digging, to the circuit-bent soundscapes of the so called ‘post-dilla’ era. – 2tall

It’s a hat tip to all those who came before and who made mixes to be more than just a collection of tracks – they made it to tell a story, and that’s what we wanted to do. – Kper

I reckon I’ll be listening to this for a minute. I’m really thankful to have found this, big respect to 2tall, Kper & Clockwork for putting it together. It’s really reminded me how much I love Hip Hop. I know that sounds crazy, but as a blogger (and  ultimately, a consumer) in 2009, I’m exposed to and have so much access to so much music, it’s really very easy to begin under-appreciating it all. It’s exceptionally easy to take a lot of it for granted and simply ‘move on to the next’. I really feel as though many of us are developing some type of ‘musical ADHD’ in that we’re unable to really focus on one thing for the time required to really appreciate it. No sooner one album drops, another one does and another and another. This is something I think everyone is susceptible to right now and for me, especially as a music lover, is definitely something I need to remember.

Tracks, mixtapes, EP’s, albums, mixes, remixes – everything drops in such quick succession – it’s essential we (myself included) remember to listen and absorb it all. Not saying it’s easy and actually, I think blogs have played a big role in the cause of this, all I’m saying is – instead of listening to everything quickly, take your time and digest it.

Again, want shouts to 2tall, Kper & Clockwork for A Boom Bap Continuum. You guys killed it. I really hope you lot enjoy this as much as I have.

Full tracklist after the jump.

Peace, Love & A Boom Bap Continuum.
